All very good points, Adam. But for me the most important thing is how it has fixed my mood and my need for antidepressants and anxiety meds. And I am able to go into the woods despite hip arthritis and broken meniscus that prevents me from walking very far or even use a bicycle. So kind of a mobility/handicap/mood device for me. I do own a car, but use it very rarely, mostly when going far to a groupride or a track/trail I want to ride on..

For me: - It is the FASTEST way to commute. Cars sit in traffic and cannot find parking, the trains and busses are slow and off schedule. Bikes are slow and you need to lock them up outside and bike theft here is high! I ride right to the door of my location and bring it inside. I can meet with friends, throw it in their trunk and ride with them if need be. It is the ultimate urban commuter. Nothing else compares.

Additional point for what I love: They are usable on snowy days in winter. Reversing the current as a braking system works over slick snow/ice so it isn't the danger that it is on other forms of micro-mobility. And as long as the ice isn't too bumpy the traction will remain consistent.
@seannakasone43162 ай бұрын
i'll add to that. i like being hands free. i.e. you can learn musical instruments during your commute, eat a snack, or carry groceries. you have a full body breeze running over your body, thus you stay cool and it's quick to dry off if you get rained on. you have better visibility then any other vehicle because you are standing, and can turn at every joint, from your ankles all the way up, thus easy to look in back of you. you are far less likely to fall if you ride smart. i only fell 3 times in 11 years.

It is so practical for sure, but I would really like to explain in few words to people, how satisfying is each step on EUC and how I love first turn in front of my house. When I was child, I wished to fly like superman... Riding on EUC is for me something similar to free flight (without clouds :-). It feel so much more safe than an e scooter, I've hit so many pot holes at speed and just being balanced saves you, it feels like magic, controlling where you go with your mind almost. Best mode of transport I've ever experienced tbh.

I think you should do a video about maintenance cost and downtime comparisons... mileage / kilometers will vary, but you've used a lot of them. for example mass transit versus EUC vs car vs bike. you've obviously changed tires, for how long will the average battery pack last before you need to buy a new one? how often do you need to change the wheel bearings if you are only commuting and not going over jumps? what about suspension maintenance? with a bicycle I probably average a thousand US dollars per year (about 3000 mi) on bicycle maintenance. a lot of that I could reduce by quite a bit by switching to a waxed chain. a car easily out strips my bicycle maintenance costs... in fact I think the cost of car insurance alone wipes out my entire bike maintenance budget, and that still leaves fuel, registration and inspection costs, fluid changes/replenishment, tires, batteries, and wiper blades.
@0xsergy13 күн бұрын
What are you doing to your bicycles? I've bought one set of good tires, Gatorskins that are super puncture resistant(highly recommend, haven't had a flat in the 10 years i've had them and I use this bike on everything from gravel to tough singletrack ontop of regular road use), and a derailleur after my old one failed in the last 10 years(only failed due to me using a road bike on rough mtb singletrack trails, regular use it likely wouldn't have failed). Use car gear oil for the chain, one bottle is 15 dollars and will last you a lifetime. This is on a used 80s roadbike that cost me $150 so in total I've spent $320 in 10 years.

I got rid of my car a year ago and I was working out how much money I've saved in the last year... with rego, insurance, servicing and maintenance, petrol... it works out at around $5,000 [saved] and that is a conservative estimate based on nothing actually going wrong with it. And the biggest thing is, I don't miss not having a car, not one little bit. I would love you to do a comparison on the 'one wheel' vs the 'EUC'. That would be awesome. Another great video, thanks Adam 🥰

EUCs are cool, I really want to try it one day, but in many countries you can't buy them (or the selection is very limited and overpriced 2-3x), and you can't ship them internationally cause of batteries. The cool thing about electric skateboards, is that you can just build them to your required specs, you can buy all parts separately from many different suppliers and source the batteries locally. Seems like there's no DIY scene for EUCs. Just try doing a search on youtube - hundreds of DIY skateboard builds, and maybe couple of modded EUC videos. I wonder if it's because of very custom motors and CNC mounts required. I might end up building one myself.

I made 6000miles (9000 Km) in the last year on EUC, and the terrain I can concor on the EUC is more intense than I could with the OneWheel.

I used to use my motorcycle to visit my mother, but she moved to the city I'm in (Hamilton, NZ), so now I use my Sherman S to travel to the other side of the city to visit my mother - I'm saving lots on money compared to when I had to use the motorcycle. My e-scooter (Inmotion RS) is quicker, and yet my EUC is still more fun - and plenty quick enough to get around the city. My e-bike has panniers, which makes it better for carrying stuff, but most of the time I don't need more than the EUC and a backpack. My motorhome is enormous (11m long with a trailer that adds another 5m) so I'm not going to use that to travel around the city, I would only use that for a long trip. EUCs are both fun & practical, what's not to like!

I'd have to write what I don't like. Tyre options such as with a off the shelf scooter I can get no flats tyre options. No euc or shop is offering that yet.?. I might be the first on a euc with mousse , im still in testing phaze stats soon, it cannot get a flat, it's solid, I have no suspension either. No wheel disassembly to install, unlike tube. Tyre numbering has to many measuring systems, hence as an x mechanic " I say a 14 inch rim has a 14 inch tyre on it. " Knowing the rim diameter is important to know. A 20 inch wheel does not tell us what the rim diameter is, hence we don't buy those, because the tyre might measure 21 inches and be on a 10 inch rim, it's a mystery I'm not playing, hence We can't research tyre options due to lack of info. Oh battery advertising another euc bug. 1700wh or is it really 1595wh? I perfer the real number thanks. Else yeah I'm a fan to.There's something about the moving along, whatever it is I like it.
