I only buy one which lasts me a long time ● I no longer buy different brands of body lotions... one is enough ● I am slowly getting out of the habit of buying mugs... it's a serious obsession 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I often get shamed by people for buying things for myself from time to time to better my mental health as I am the sort of person who finds lots of joy in little things to fill my home. I feel bad about it all the time because of this, but I’ve realised that that isn’t even the thing coating me most of my money, it’s the going out and getting lunch with people constantly and buying random things I tell myself I’ll need in the future and I never use. It’s all about figuring out how to cut back without forgetting to sometimes treat yourself as with something that will make you genuinely happy!

I stopped buying high heels around 2 years ago. I just couldn’t take the pain. I still have about 50 pairs to sell with some not even used. I’m going to do a no buy year with clothes this year. I have so many because I worked in a popular high street store for over 10 years and used to get a 60% discount. Last year made me put things into perspective and made me realise I need to save more for my future.

Hi! I'm almost caught up w the vids but I want to get in w the Kool chicks who save $$ too so here's what I gave up: 1. A wasteful partner who didn't value my thoughts, opinions, nor my financial well-being; 1a. Purchasing "hoopty" vehicles that may have had a low payment but cost more in repairs excluding maintenance (9 cars in 21 yrs w a family is NOT fun). Fast-forward to my Exodus & 12 yrs from that mess & Now, I've had 2 cars in 12 yrs & 1 lasted my daughter through college & no payments & only maintenance .Both cars running strong & easy maintenance. 2. Buying some recreational items. In my current new next lifetime, my new 'we' enjoy walking on trails and visiting waterfalls. I priced walking sticks...yeah, no. So I made one for each of us out of oak branches from the back yard. Someone offered us $125 for each! I'm in process of making more to sell at the summer Saturday bazaar in our little town. The process takes me some time (about a week by hand & each is unique), but it was truly a labor of love and therapeutic. 3. I only buy shoes I KNOW I'll wear. I've discovered I'm a boot chick. So I only have about 5 pair of shoes total and 2 pr of sneakers, but I have boots for ALL my outfits no matter the weather. And the boots have to be classic, none trendy, good material. I have about 20 pair and I wear them all and I make sure they're treated properly to store in summer. I've had most for over 10 yrs and people still compliment & ask me where I get them. Summers I am all wedges, mules, and sandals, same requirements. 4. I've always been a brown bagger for lunch, but I've gotten into making my own bagels, applecranberry or bananapumkin breads and I make my own teas. I also make my own smoothies. For the $7 from one smoothie at smoothie king, I can make 7 days of smoothies from frozen fruit & my little blender. My coworkers call me 'The Little Grocery Store '😂 5. I no longer buy lotions. I make my own shea coco butter blend. It's taken me a minute to get the ratio right but it's great knowing what I'm putting on my skin. Both my African American and non alike love them. I've started trying my hand at infusing fresh herbs like drying mint and lavender to scent them and I'll be bringing those to the Saturday bazaar too. 6. I no longer buy prepakaged meals. I'm fortunate enough be coupled w one who loves learning and has taught me to love cooking. 7. I no longer buy lawn tools. I've found an absolutely wonderful lawn person to maintain our acreage who comes every 2 weeks w/o us calling and the time I save in aggravation and wear/tear on my body is well worth the $35/week & helps his small business. Bonded & insured. 8. I definitely no longer buy specialty body soaps just because it says whatever. I'm a Dove chick through & through. It works, doesn't adversely affect my skin, nuff said. 9. I no longer purchase just any laundry detergent. I buy only clear ones,(the blue dye is a ploy to make 'whites seem whiter' & lots of times spot the clothes.) I have two clear that work & I stick w those. 10. I no longer buy oversized snacks I only eat every few months. I'd rather have a 2/$1 bag of Doritos & popcorn to enjoy than just tempt myself with a family size bag & feel terrible later because I pigged out & ate the whole darn thing! ~Thanks for letting me share...even if I am a few yrs late😂

Also, nail polish is often full of unhealthy chemicals that I really don't need. I've pared back to 2 or 3 bottles and gotten rid of the rest.

Add baking soda, hydrogen peroxide and tea tree oil to your shopping list. Why because they have multiple uses for both skin and at home you would be surprised how much you save in the long run if you add those to your list. Tea tree oil is the most expensive but a good investment, just like the others which are cheaper but very versatile. Check online for their multiple uses and you get what I'm talking about. Also for those who iron, I no longer buy spray starch it does not do the work as well as deionised water which is much cheaper and keeps your iron clean.

Of all the items you've listed the only thing I now buy are pens/stationery. As I grow older, I've realised that a lot of these 'wants' are ot necessary. Thank you for this video, it certainly helps me to think before acting/spending.

In today's video, I'm sharing a list of things I no longer buy! A lot of these things I no longer buy are tied to money mistakes BUT the great thing about money mistakes is that you live and you LEARN. What do you no longer buy?! Leave a comment below!

I love every bit of this. I am the person with all the pretty notebooks, pens, pencils, and skincare. Years ago I ruined my arches with high heels on a hike through Arlington National Cemetery - I was in high school. But yes, I need to be comfortable. I no longer buy NEW outfits just to keep up with my in-laws.

I no longer buy an outfit just because I’m going out. LOL, when Tiffany Haddish wore that white outfit 2-3 times, I was like - umm let me stop my madness too! And I’m NOT on the red carpet! 2. A new coat every year OMG I find thee most adorable coats - short, long, wool, cashmere, leather, fur, so many colors & patterns - WOOSAH! 3. a new bag EVERY year (lol you got to match the coat right?!) 4. the latest greatest LIPSTICKS in ALL my shades that look cute 5. basic restaurant food 6. Yankee Candles - I buy my fav oils & wax melts instead & refresh the wax w/the oil 7. top shelf liquor/food/gifts outside my home or close friends (sorry colleagues, not!) 8. cable (years in, I stream everything lol before it was popular) 9. Apple accessories 10. A new car every 3-4 years (this is huge! I literally had a new car every major model redesign)

This is very helpful, I have a wedding in two weeks and will use something from my closet. Add to coffee, mask, nail polish and magazine. Will be more careful at grocery and Costco too.

Thank you for sharing. This forced me to think about what things I should no longer buy. I will have to give this more thought, but the things that immediately come to mind for me are: 1. Cookbooks (full of pretty pictures of food I'll never actually make) 2. Journals/notebooks (never really use them -- just like the pretty covers) 3. Cocktail dresses (I don't have anywhere to wear them, and I really should focus on my core capsule wardrobe) 4. Things just because they're on sale/clearance (but I really don't LOOOOOOOVE them) I'm sure there are more....

I bought one pair of Louboutins and honestly, I will never ever buy another pair. It's such a waste of money! I love the fact that poorly fitting shoes made your list! Also, I haven't bought a pen in over a decade! LOL! I get them for free all over the place so it doesn't even make sense, lol!

Thanks so much for good advice, I've subscribed. I am already (not) doing most of the 10 items you mention. Just a couple of thoughts: Cosmetics, especially skin creams. Some years ago I read a prominent facial surgeon who advised the expensive face creams are just not worth it. What we are paying for is mostly marketing. He advised generic drug store creams do just as well. So I stick with a moisturiser and cleanser which comes out at $150 per year. Cocktail dresses: I have to sometimes wear cocktail wear even if only for work events, and have separates - tops/blouses, 2 skirts in two lengths = many options, and a bonus, some of these can be worn for dressy day wear. Subscriptions: especially online subscriptions. I am a news junkie and was a magazine junkie, and took inventory of all my online subscriptions which came to $100 + per month! I've cancelled all of them and only read a daily free digest.

I am a Maxwell House coffee person. I recently discovered great coffee from Haiti that I buy to support the Haitian economy - two brands are Carribrew & Mokafe as well as Haitea for tea. I need to save more. I will be investing in 2022. I agree with you, I need to stop buying nail polish. I no longer buy tea that is not as organic as possible. I no longer buy meat that is not humanely slaughtered. I eat less meat. Meat has to be drained of all its blood in order to be edible. I no longer buy turkey as it is considered a domesticated vulture. I no longer buy candy or gum as I have a tooth missing. I try to bake bread more than buy it. And yes, those high heels are not worn anymore.

I'm Haitian and haven't found coffee that I like better than Haitian coffee. Dark roast with this caramel subtaste because they roast it with cane sugar. I even put it in these reusable pods in order to brew it with my Nespresso machine. I get a tone of it for cheap directly from home so I'm not about to spend $7 a cup at Starbucks.

I no longer buy…designer handbags, an extra pair of shoes that I love, bottled water, anything in a plastic bottle if I can get a refil without the plastic, beauty products, expensive hair products, jewelry, excessive amounts of clothes, subscriptions, fast food and dining out, frozen foods, I’m sure there’s more but…here ya go.

This was so cute. Rule # 1 my mother taught me about fashion, if you can't run in a shoe, don't buy it. Feet have to last a lifetime. I never understood anyone paying more than a dollar for a cup of coffee. I can do my own nails pretty much perfectly, so I do spend a lot on polish. I enjoyed this.
@Erin-rg3dw3 жыл бұрын
My family has a similar concept on the shoes - invest in what separates you from the ground, so invest in good tires and shoes. Unhealthy shoes can create soooo much pain, both now and later. Better to buy what's safe and comfortable.

i saw the pens sitting on the shelf behind this lady and thought "I like her, we have something in common." Interesting content UNTIL she announced "pens" and then slammed me with "notebooks." I have enough for an entire elementary school district (if they still use them.) I think the first step to remedy this situation is to subscribe.

I have started using my old outdated calendars as around the house scrap paper. MAKEUP > GIRLLLLLLL I have enough makeup for 20 faces... if I add up the cost I'd be a millionaire 🤯🤯🤯but again I started working remotely a year before Covid..and then Covid...so in 2 years I think I had a full face of makeup on maybe 10 times....I CAN'T !!!!
