The GH7 is what the GH6 should have been when released. It is a reconciliation. I almost bought a GH6 and I'm glad I skipped it and the G9 II (My son bought a G9 II). Now it is time to finally replace my GH4. I'm 69, so it may be the last camera this retiree needs.

I'd love to see some color science comparisons between GH5s, GH6 and GH7. The GH7 seems to have a lot more tonality in the highlights but loses some hue vibrancy in the process. Things look a lot more three dimensional but a bit washed out in the highlights. I like the look, but GH6 might have been a happier middle ground. I'm wondering if GH7 can get away with underexposing and lifting shadows and mids in post so the highlights regions can retain some more saturation density.

Can GH7 give me AF at long distance or its improvement doesn't make real difference in that purpose? Should i get the GH7 for a perfect m43 combo in surfing videos?
@RhettThompsonFilm29 күн бұрын
Shooting with adapted lenses, especially on the GH5 is a recipe for disaster. AF is truly terrible with adapted lenses even with native lenses. It’s gonna be pretty rough. I have seen some tests with the GH7 and the metabones updated in a really specific way and that seems to work well but I still think naitive MFT lenses would be leagues faster. Photos or video?

G'day from Australia Rhett. I'm really leaning towards the GH7 to do what I need from a camera for my channel. Wondering if you could suggest an idiot proof zoom lens that will pair nicely for run and gun hand held shooting. Chasing one lens for filming 4wding, talking head, wildlife and cooking segments. All outdoors, often poorly lit, mostly hand held - so stability is really important. I just want to use 4k 60fps footage straight out of the camera without colour grading. Is the Leica 12-60 that's available as a kit lens good enough? Or is there something else out there I should look at? LOVE your opinion mate! Cam Wild
@RhettThompsonFilm2 ай бұрын
Sorry for the delay in reply! If we want an all in one lens I have a few thoughts for sure. The Leica 12-60 is one of the top contenders. Stopping down to F4 basically provides you with a constant aperture, mostly parfocal, great autofocusing, weather sealed, great for macro 24-120mm zoom lens in a pretty small package although for wildlife I think it might fall SLIGHTLY short. Another wealther sealed options with greater range but some optical compromises is the Lumix 14-140 which gives you a 28-280mm range which is a lot better than the 60mm of the leica but the light gathering and background blur is a bit less for the interviews and the autofocus will be a bit slower. Switching to Olympus you also have some interesting options and they should perform OK even if I havent tested them The Olympus 12-100 F4 is much larger than these two lenses but has a good compromise of range vs quality and light gathering giving you the same 24mm equiv wide and a fairly close 200mm at the long end although the IBIS and OIS of the lens wont work together. And the most extreme lens and best for wildlife potentially on this list but potentially one of the more expensive and weakest in the specs (outside its crazy zoom) might be the Olympus 12-200. In daylight this will technically cover pretty much everything youd ever want but again the slower aperture might cause issues if it gets dim. 2 lens solutions - The first is more budget especially used and that would be the Leica 12-60 and the Lumix 100-300 ii, both weather sealed and the Lumix 100-300 would be used specifically for wildlife and is really decent for its range and price although there may be different options. The second may be more pro but used could be still good and thats the Olympus 12-40 and 40-150 which both have a solid 2.8 aperture and more range so youd only have to switch occasionally and also have F4 versions that are smaller if thats important to you. I hope this helps a bit and lmk if you need any more help!

Hey man, got a quick question/weird thing with my gh7. So when I am in open gate 5.8k mode in manual focus, I cannot seem to move my little direct focus area box off the bottom of the screen.
