The depth of field thing is so interesting in regards to narrative. Shooting shallow is great for a specific *feel* and you can easily mask a lack of budget with it, but because of that, shallow can feel cheap. But when you're forced to shoot deep, you have to concentrate harder on framing and set design, which may make a project feel bigger budget but only if you're good at what you do.

Great, video and one of the first ones that compares actual Arri footage, with the GH7 Log-c profile. And as expected they match really well. You can definitely see it doesn't have the same dynamic range as a real Arri, and like you mentioned the limitations of the m43 has to be worked around a bit. But the depth of field issue is easily solved with speed boosters. I use a Viltrox .71 f-mount to m43 speed booster for my nikon lenes, and I can get crazy blurred out background with my Nikkor 85mm 1.8 (effectively a 120mm f2.5) or my vintage Nikkor 50mm f1.4 which becomes like a 70mm f1.9. All manual focus though. Would love the see them release a GH7s (like the GH5s) using a lower megapixel oversized mulit-aspect sensor for a wider field or view and better low light performance. Maybe swap out IBIS for internal ND, include the Arri log profile, and that would be a killer camera.

The S1H, S1, S5, S5ii, S5iix highlight rolloff is less “crunchy” as Sony, Nikon and Fuji which made LUMIX clips easier to cut to Arri and Red footage. Only natural that Lumix pursuit an official Arri Log later on. And now we’re here

@sloppysteaks3 ай бұрын
@@xl9119 if you’re closing the IRIS what’s the point of the booster? Plenty of great wide angle MFT lenses. The booster was intended for DOF. It makes no sense to compare them because the booster also adds color shift.

Actually you can get very nice shallow DOF footage with the Oly 25mm Pro f1.2 (50mm f2.4) , the lens is pretty soft wide open at f1.2 (though it has good local contrast) which helps to make the footage more natural. This is my go to lens with the GH6, this combo allow me to get both shallow DOF along with nice colors and skin tones. This lens works very well with my G9II too (and I think the GH7), the very good AF and IBIS of this camera is perfect for run and gun like when you follow people while getting a nice background blur, but the colors are not as good as the GH6 in my opinion.

@@sloppysteaks With the gh7 and Panasonic 14-140, you can have a run-and-gun doc setup that’s weather sealed with incredible OIS+IBIS+E-Stab. There’s no full-frame camera/lens setup with comparable coverage that would be that small/light and/or affordable and definitely not with as good of stabilization. Not sold on the highlight rolloff, but it's definitely a step in the right direction. I still think Alex's Emotive Color is the best Arri color space transform (over ACES and this new built-in one) Dope Video though!

@sloppysteaks3 ай бұрын
Always found it too magenta
@davidmultimedia20243 ай бұрын
@@sloppysteaksThat’s only because the earlier versions of GHalex had more saturated tones (it was stylized towards film.. plus the GH5's sensor was inconsistent with wavelenghts compared to newer sensors). Also, the Emotive Color color engine (custom program) has been refined to a point where it's now rock solid! For many years, it has been crazy accurate on ALL supported cameras, and there’s absolutely no pink cast whatsoever… it’s pure Alexa goodness! Emotive Color is WAY more accurate straight out of the box than this GH7 after all the tweaks.. I can assure you that. The LogC curve is one thing.. but the colors still need to be aligned with an actual Alev sensor in order to truly look the same. Sure, you can get close manually when you have a side by side comparison with an actual Alexa under the same lighting scenario.. but unless your goal is strictly to pair the GH7 with an Alexa on professionnal shoots, you won't ever get truly accurate results. I’ve been using Emotive Color since 2017 on GH5, then BMPCC6K, S5 and now on the S5IIX with identical results. If you expose and WB properly (most people does not), you get a perfect match all the time without any tweaking. Plus, the Tungsten/4200K versions makes all the differences in the world.. which you don’t get with the GH7. The way i'm seeing it, you get an officially licensed ARRI LogC3 ''CST'' built into the camera for 200$.. nothing more. I still think it's great.. don't get me wrong.. but we can clearly see here that the GH7 with LogC is sooo magenta.. just like it was with V-Log to 709. Plus, you can choose to use the Emotive Color LogC conversion alone and use the official Arri709 LUT if you prefer. It's 65$ vs 200$ for something much more accurate and much more versatile... but nobody believes it or interested in actually testing it against an Alexa just because it's not officially licensed by ARRI and seems too good to be true. Pretty much every reviewers out there who ever reviewed Emotive Color have done it wrong... it's ridiculously frustrating. Plus, the term ''LUT'' now inspires gimmick to most people... Sad reality... Patrick, please get Emotive Color for your S5II/X, read the PDF carefully to make sure you're using it right, and then make a side by side comparison with an Alexa.. just like this one.. then objectively see the difference.

Hey Patrick. I shoot #realestate : spaces, places and some people. When I first started out I disliked about m43 sensor is the sharp lens flares. due to lack of DOF and likely the lens I was using also (bubulious element) overhead lights were killing the shots and shifted over to crop and full frame. Of all the GH7 Log C3 stuff I have looked at over the last couple of days, both you and Blaine have answered one CRITICAL question that the other KZbin episodes could not even come close to. You both compared an Arri camera against a Panasonic camera using the Log C3 colour profile. An apples to apples comparison. Everybody else I've watched, in KZbin land, has been comparing Panasonic's vLog Colour Profile against Panasonic's Loc C3 Colour Profile. That's nice but it does not really answer the question of how Panasonic's Log C3 Colour Profile stacks up against an Arri camera that uses Log C3 natively including its better hardware and sensor combined. I am a hobbyist who makes little KZbin projects and the "take-away" lesson that I've learned by watching everybody is that Panasonic's own vLog Colour Profile is a fantastic Colour Profile for my experience and skill set. It would be a waste of money for me to buy the Panasonic Log C3 Colour Profile because I will never get near a real Arri to match footage. If I wanted to emulate the look then I'd do my best in Resolve to get as close as I could. However if I was a professional trying to match B Roll footage from a sacrificial GH7 mounted to the edge of a fast moving subject with an Arri camera for a professional gig, then the price of the Panasonic Log C3 Colour Profile would be worth the Price Tag when colour grading as I could justify the time saved matching shots.
