I am not entirely sure but the Hz or frame limit is caused by HDMI not 4K resolution. You should always use the so called "display port" connection on your monitor and graphic cards to prevent this limitation.

I dont know why it would tire you out but then i supose everyones different . I have the oculus rift touch which i know is a lot lighter and more comfortable than HTC vive (reason i chose it) and i removed the ear phones that are attatched to them and use a pair of sennheiser hd599s headphones instead . I have a wall mounted fan mounted on the wall above my monitor and it blow air directly at me so i dont get hot and am kept nice and cool while i race/drive . This also adds to epic emersion when driving open top cars too . Its all in the set up mate . But then like i said , eveyones different . But racing in vr totally blows me away mate and i couldnt imagine going back to monitor set up for racing games .

I also got a better driver from driving rally games like Dirt you have to listen to the pace notes you learning the tracks lasting over 10 minutes is just as hard as learning it the proper way. Number 9. Turn Off Assists. I was much like you and did not want to turn off some of the more general assists. I got the to the point where I had all off except for braking line, and ABS. ABS was the last to go for me...but... In Forza Motorsports 6, there was a challenge card that reduced my brake efficiency by 25% for a generous reward. I loaded it up and ran with reduced brakes. WOW what a difference!!!!! Forcing myself to manage my brakes by feel (instead of guesses and prayer) increased my lap times by more than 2% within 3 or 4 races. Because I could not rely on the option of jamming the brakes on a bad line, I was forced to anticipate a smarter line through the turns. HUGE tip here that should not be ignored or feared!!!

@@danielegaggiotti2238 that pretty much depends on the series, many have ABS. GT3 and GT4 for example have ABS and TC. GTE only has TC. I drive mainly AC/ RF2/ R3E and ACC and use them only if the real car has them. You can fine tune them in all of these sims, which helps findung your personal sweet spot for every Car/Tracks/grip situation. It doesn't slow me down in any of these Games because they are often well implemented (i dont know how that is in Forza or GT). I actually have TC/ABS always on my wheel to be able to change it for special corners or when the grip situation changes.

I rock a g29 and my motto is take that time and effort to understand the settings, when I started it would often be very confusing until I really dove into what each setting was and how it affected other settings. Other than that, it's all up to what makes you feel better. Like he said, detail is more important than pure force. I usually go with whatever let's me feel the edge of grip personally

Very good pointers, and about the last one i can attest to it, I am in iRacing and found myself battling it out against faster guys (i managed to make a blistering qualifying lap due to some outlap trickery shaving half a second off my fastest lap) and qualified in p5. Now my goal was to follow those faster guys and boy they were faster than my normal race pace by 1 second, but I managed to keep up (barely and due to their battles between them) but I had to push myself to the limits and when I checked my race pace after the end of the race (got 3rd place) I found out that my race pace was significantly faster than all the other races on that track and car before. That translated to better race pace for the next races (not as fast as that one where i had to push right to my limit) but say half a second + faster, which is huge by the end of a race. Now what you would like to do is to battle it out with faster guys but not so much faster they will leave you so far back, because when this happens you will go to default mode and just try to finish the race in your position, no point in pushing to catch the uncatchable which is a wise tactic especially in iRacing as you need to think about your SR and iRating and one mistake may destroy both. BTW my gear is as crap as it can get office chair, pedals held in place by a slipper before the wall and using the Logitech DFGT setup and sometimes the wheel comes off the office while i am driving and have to put it back and tighten it, and my chair swivels when i turn and moves back when i am in a heated battle :P but im doing ok-ish

This was 30 minutes of almost straight nodding for me. :D Lots of good advice and true facts there. One more thing on the "correct" FOV topic: Distances are much easier to gauge too, as objects should have the same angular size within your field of view as they would in real life. Also approaching objects kind of warp towards you on too high a FOV, as objects in the distance get smushed together and expand as they travel towards the camera. Very much like the fish-eye view of a GoPro for instance, making the track seem very narrow and the car fast. In fact, this is often used by arcade-type games to "enhance" the sense of speed. I think that, plus the high FOV of real life onboard cameras and the fact that most normal computer setups require tiny FOVs that suck to drive with make people tend to deprioritize or dismiss the advantages a calculated FOV has.

Bolt your pedals to a piece of mdf board from your local hardware store to stop the sliding or tipping when you hit your brakes. Get the measurements right so you can have your pedals in the right position with the end of the wooden board tight up against the wall behind your desk. This is a great solution for those of us who want a better pedal set but don't have the money or room for a racing cockpit. Also, invest in a sturdy chair without wheels!

In reference to just playing what you enjoy - I just got my wheel a month ago and I was hyped for the three titles Moza claimed were compatible with it. Well, the original Project Cars does not seem to work (I guess there is some EXTENSIVE fiddling that can be done to get it to function) and I was already playing Euro Truck Simulator 2 and thought that would be my go-to title until I got into "more serious" games. Well, the third title that I haven't mentioned yet happened to be Wreckfest - a fairly silly knockoff of the old Playstation Destruction Derby games that I loved way back when. Wreckfest had gotten tossed into the bin of hardly played games I own after a few derbies and I never cared much for, or was very good at, the racing portion of the game - - - until I got the wheel! I plowed through the game in a week and have now set myself about getting top spots in all the races in the career mode. It's just a ton of fun and exhilarating! Now, I did just get AC, ACC, iRacing, CarX and Dirt Rally 2.0 over the Black Friday sales so I will be trying other games, but Wreckfest really saved me from letting my brand new wheel collect dust! It's fun and mindless and sometimes you really just want to smash into that guy that clipped you in the last lap (without repercussions that normally come from such behavior)!

Absolutely right...there’s too much goof ball snobbery in sim racing...I’ve been sim racing for 12 years on and off...there’s aspects of every game that I like...from the FFB and realism king which is rFactor 2 (imho ofcourse :) all the way down to Dirt 3 or F1 2014! I really enjoyed playing F1 2014 on triples...also Grid Autosport aswell! Super solid gaming experience at 60fps and doesn’t falter! One of my favourite sims still is GTR2 - also solid at 60fps...consistency is important for immersion with me...With project cars 2 or rFactor 2 on triples, it’s sometimes difficult to get that due to system demands...

Re: the FOV in particular, I used the first FOV calculator link and based on my (admittedly very basic) single-screen setup the result came back at 27 degrees of FOV for AC, which is certainly lower than what I was using, which I think was the AC default. I use the MX-5 ND on the Nordschleife as my test car and track for pretty much everything, because I've owned an MX-5 for 14 years and I'm very familiar with how it drives, plus I know the Nordschleife very well and it has every kind of curve you can work with. After doing several laps at this FOV I found that things definitely feel more realistic in general, such as the road undulations, and being able to hit apexes and turn into them more accurately. But the problem I've experienced is that with the lower FOV it's harder to see around tighter curves and some sweepers because you have a much more narrow view. I had to do a lot of corrections because I basically couldn't see what was coming next nearly as well. A good example is going through the Carousel. I could only see about a half-car length going around it and had to make many more quick steering adjustments than I would with a higher FOV, and had to work a lot harder because of this. And that was basically the case for many of the curves as well. So, imo if you don't have a triple screen or curved screen, you have to react much more quickly an frequently with the lower FOV that the calculators come up with. I felt exhausted after only a few laps because I felt I was working so hard (just as point of reference, I don't use high FFB settings). I'll try increasing the FOV some until I think it's at that sweet spot between the increased sense of realism the lower FOV gives and the practicality of a slightly higher FOV. And thank you Boosted Media for putting together a really useful video. Cheers!

When I have a working FFB-Setup that is about 90% right, I leave it that way and just get used to it. For me personaly it is much easier to adopt to the slight imperfection of the FFB then constantly hunting down the last 10% and always drive with different settings. But then again, I'm using an old DFGT wheel where you can't reach perfection anyways^^.

Great, no AMAZING, input and I wish I could have viewed this 5 years ago when I started. One thing I am not sure I agree with (after spending 1-2 years with each config) is that a single 32:9 49” at 3840x 1080 curved screen 144hz refresh with a 1080 to is a great option to me. I had first used triple 32” 144Hz monitors with 3 1080ti’s, but I never got used to the borders and inter-game alignment issues. Fortunately I purchased used 1080 ti cards and 32” monitors, so I put the extra $1,800 into a rear slip motion mod. The rear slip added much more value and performance benefit (added to my shakers) than many other things, as it really helped me sense rear end slip and oversteer better.

The most obvious point made here is probably the most important one as well - Race/play the sim that you like the most! If you like it more than all other titles isnt it logical that you will enjoy it and have the most fun with it rather than playing another game just because some "pro" told you that you should? I've heard so many people say that they love a certain sim but the usually play another one because its "superior"for whatever reason. I guess a reason for this is that when it comes to simracing just the name of it implies that the simulation is the most important bit but IMO in case you are not doing it on a professional level that its hardly the case.

I'm still running this after 3 years, except for the monitor which is upgraded to a BenQ 35-inch ultrawide. In the beginning I wasn't sure if I was going to continue, so I decided to find the middle-path, to spend a reasonable amount of money on this hobby. Today though...welll...I'm thinking of upgrading some stuff =) I still think that you can become a great racer even without the "high end" stuff. Practice, practice, practice! @@TheMack Yep, Fanatec gear is great. I got the CSL Elite pedals w/o the load-cell brake at first, since I use paddle shifters and didn't need a clutch. Ended up getting the load-cell brake after all. Still have to turn (way) down the brake sensitivity in-game as I want to keep the default settings on the wheel/pedals, and adjust in-game. Otherwise, it gets to be (way) confusing especially when switching between sims. I also ended up switching out the little foam cushy spacer and going with the rubber ones on the load-cell brake. In the vid, BM mentions rigidity of the rig, and he's right as my NLR wheel stand seems to have some flexing and I am using an office chair, and it is not optimum.

Btw i think that one major point for getting better is you need to practice your consistency. If you just hotlap for times you will do good in qualifying, but in a race when you push a little to far your gonna wreck the car and end up ruing the race. Do multiple laps in a row and focus on not crashing, not speed. PRACTICE FOR THE RACE NOT THE QUALIFYING. Consistency will beat one or two fast laps everytime.
@danielmachado5176
@danielmachado5176 5 жыл бұрын
Yes and no... Though it is really important getting a consistent race rhythm, as long as you're approaching to the top split races you'll need to qualify pretty well in order to get any chances to win. To do that you're gonna need to practice hot laps and then freeze the way you drive in those hot laps to use something close to it in the races. The problem with training only race stints is that sometimes you freeze the wrong way of driving, like a way under the limit, which will make you never being competitive after all. So... Begining: hot laps, then full stints. At some point after you've got a lot of experience you do only stints, but tries to achieve the readlines within it, making your hot laps inside of the full stints without have to do two separates things

I'm a total shoe-string budget simmer, me. I run a 27" 1920x1080, 60Hz HP monitor, and a Logi G27 as hardware. My software of choice is the original rFactor; I cut my teeth on GPL, using a Logi MOMO, and a 13" monitor back in the early '00s. I splurged on a pair of Ferrari Pumas. I prefer offline hotlap sessions with quickly-calibrated AI traffic over racing - primarily due to equipment limitations. My rig's not so hot online, unfortunately, and racing the rFactor AI in full-length races, no matter how good, I always end up in the points coz they can't seem to hold it together longer than 30 to 45 minutes or so - once past that, they fall off a cliff and I end up passing more retirements than traffic. So it's hotlapping with maxed-out AI for me. Great video, mate. Lots of good advice, regardless of kit. Proper FOV, adjusted FFB, visual assists-free, challenging AI opposition, and max realism settings is the best way to go.
