This video is for you if you often find yourself asking- Why is my relaxed hair breaking, or Why is my relaxed hair so thin, or Why is my relaxed hair falling out, or Why is my relaxed hair shedding so much, or Why is my relaxed hair so dry.
In this video I cover, how to stop shedding and breakage on relaxed hair, how to stop hair breakage after relaxer, how to grow damaged relaxed hair, how to fix relaxed hair shedding when combing, how to take care of relaxed hair and make it grow.
How I grew my relaxed hair long, past shoulder length, and closer to mid back length, approaching wast length. I talk about the major things that I attributed to my long black African American hair growth and I also discuss things such as my relaxed hair care routine and regimen, protective styling, stretching, how long I wait before relaxing my new growth, and the products I like to use on my relaxed hair.
Black relaxed hair can grow! I hope this video helps you!

Yes but genetics play a huge role in growing relaxed hair more than natural hair it's a fact. I'm from Africa and I know this very well. Just because you see someone who has achieved this doesn't mean yours will he the same and if the case is that you want relaxed hair it's best to grow it out natural first.

@Oreofe Akintan if you keep up with her videos, you'll know she used to say exactly what you just said. I'm Nigerian (and so is she). I know that genetics play a good role in this, but you can actually take care of your hair to ensure it grows. Not everything is restricted by genetics. Seun had the same thoughts until she started being more intentional about taking care of her hair.

@@randomschoolstuff1999 But hair doesnt grow from the end but to the root, so if you relax your hair, your hair will still grow because of its growing on the roots. It's mostly about keeping the length that matter, so to retain length, you have to take care of the ends and your hair overall so they dont break, even they break your hair will still grown but you wont have length.

@MultiTwiglet I agree that black women has worn their hair natural long before. Just like the baby hairs, and plump glossy lips, super long nails, and high waisted pants has ALWAYS been around. A trend is the current choice of fashion, beauty etc that the majority is wearing. When natural hair became the ideal hairstyle people was putting people down for relaxers.

The crazy thing is ME TOOOO! That's how it was for me until I was about 13, then I started doing my own research and told my mom about only relaxing new growth! Before then, I was getting all my relaxers from root to tip! I actually talked about it in this video, but took it out when editing because I thought I was rambling and didnt know if anyone would be able to relate! I don't blame her either though, the more you know.

@@SeunOkimi Hi Seun, if you don't mind, could you please do a video on your regimen while wearing a weave? I've watched a lot of your videos but I still have so many practical questions, like how long do you keep the weave in at a time? And how often do you wash/cleanse your hair once the weave is in? And how do you go about that proces? Do you condition/deep condition your hair with the weave in, and if yes: how? How do you moisturize your hair with the weave in? Do you do any special treatments between weave installs? It would be super helpful if you could offer some more insight into your regimen. I want to wear weaves as a protective style, but I want to do it the proper way. And being that your hair looks the way it looks, you seem like the one to ask 🤷🏿😊👍🏾 Thank you for all the information you have already shared so far, your hair is GORGEOUS and a great example of the magic versatility of black hair 💯👏🏾 Enjoy your hair sis! 🤗❤🙏🏾

Back in March I returned to relaxing my hair, after trying to care for it in its natural state. Afterward it was easier to care for it. I still do hot oil treatments and deep conditionings. I care for my relaxed hair as if it was natural. Friday I retouched my roots only, and I couldnt believe the growth, 3 inches in about 7 months. Not too shabby. If youre relaxed, still keep moisturizing, keep protective styling, try not to touch daily, still use a wide tooth comb when blow drying or styling, and still oil your fingertips before taking down braids. It will help prevent breakage. Lastly, I use ORS products as well. The same ones she posted. Theyve worked for years. Love em!

Great video. Tips from someone who actually has a head full of healthy permed hair is helpful. After being natural for a year I permed June 2019. It's growing better permed. I agree that low manipulation is key. I wash, deep condition once a week, grease my scalp, moisturize my hair, then I slap it down with some gel and wear wigs. Its grown more in 7 months of being permed than in 1 year of being natural. I also perm every 6 months. Love your video.

I actually agree. I went natural like 10 years ago and had major breakage after an improper takedown and lost a lot of length about two years ago. I feel like my hair grew more when relaxed because the texture is easier to manage but i was heat styling so it didn’t grow as long as it could. But protective styling while relaxed is probably best.

Definitely. Relaxing every six months is the best thing if someone wants to relax. Ppl keep looking down on relaxers w this whole 'natural" craze but relaxers keep hair more manageable. And staying away from box (no lye relaxers) is also key. I like the lye Motions in the little tub or Silk Elements.

People tell me I am crazy saying that my hair grows better relaxed. It does cause I don’t have to do much to it. I wash it and wrap it wet, go to sleep, and in the morning I barely have flat iron it. Then just keep it wrapped at night until I wash it again. No wash and goes, no twist unless I want that look, just let it hang.

My number 1 problem is doing TOO much to my hair! When I went through my two-year natural journey, I literally HID under wigs the whole time because my natural hair was way too much to deal with and i honestly liked my wigs better. Now I'm back to texlaxed and started having HUGE problems with knots and tangles that was leaving me with broken ends. So I'm heeding your advice and now going back to wigs for a couple months, not to hide, but to PROTECT my hair from manipulation and let it grow! ^_^

Yes, leave your hair alone. Stop doing so much. I wear pretty head wraps. It looks like Buck Wheat underneath, lol, but, my hair is bra strap length. I only relax my hair twice a year. I use rice water as well. It actually stops the shedding. My conditioner stops it as well. Find a conditioner that controls shedding. Another reason is the calcification on the scalp. Relaxers leave calcium on the scalp which causes hair breakage and will stunt hair growth. Magnesium oil removes calcification from the scalp.

Why don't you move on to wigs now? Looks like most of us Africans see the relaxer damage and opt to use wigs instead, which are also damaging to our hair follicles. That's why you see so many balding edges on women who choose to use wigs, after relaxers damage their hair. 😱

I only did my hair at salons for 10 years, my mom didn’t know how to do my hair so neither did I, and it turns out I was doing most of these things, I went natural years ago, but - no heat- 1 year ago and tbh maybe if I knew these tips beforehand I would have had healthier hair when I had relaxer in my hair. I simply thought my hair didn’t grow because of the relaxers and heat. I think what’s different is simply knowing YOUR hair, everyone’s hair is different and handles things differently. I’m still working on length retention but my hair definitely looks and feels healthier being natural than relaxed but I’m thankful for the video! Sending you much love and hope you stay healthy and happy and safe.

Good hair care practices are good hair care practices across the board. A lot of what you're saying applies to 'natural hair' length retention as well. We need to take proper care of our hair no matter the state, stage or choice of style; only then can we see it flourish. Great advice. Keep it up!

Honestly, I think my hair got as long or longer when relaxed than it has since I’ve been natural. I get so many fairy knots and splits in my kinkier area ( the back) . I never even knew what fairy knots were when relaxed. I like the way my natural hair looks, but relaxing is a styling choice just like wearing wigs. Just more permanent, but some ladies only wear wigs/weaves and never show natural goodness.

dang this video called me OUT 😂 guilty of so many of these things but really trying to educate myself now since I’m stuck inside and can’t get my hair professionally done. I’ve always wanted longer hair but I don’t really know how to take care of my hair so that’s why it really doesn’t grow much. I love that you said you get back what you put in. Such a good reminder! Love your hair. I honestly use all ORS products from their shampoo, conditioner, hair mayo, oil sheen and even relaxer. And I agree, its more of what you are doing to the hair then the products. Products can help moisturiser and strengthen the hair; even with moisturising you have to be consistent with it, same with deep conditioning. Well, that's what I have learnt in my relaxer hair journey.

Hi Beauty! Im a natural, but i LOVE perm'd hair. I do feel myself going back to perm, but im enjoying being a lazy natural right now. lol Anyway, here are some tips that can help everyone (in my opinion of course lol) 1. Wash once a week , but dilute your shampoo ( get an applicator bottle and mix, 1 oz of shampoo, 1 oz conditioner, 1 oz oil and the rest should be water) -- then of course condition and deep condish w/ oil 2. AFTER you rinse EVERYTHING OUT WITH warm water, grease, yes grease or use whipped shea butter as an alternative on your WET scalp. Your hair will NOT be greasy, i promise. Grease makes your hair greasy when you apply it on dry scalp/hair, but when applied WET, its so moisturizing. Hope these two tips help. Feel free to follow me on my KZbin channel if you ever need a laugh @FLC.TV

These tips are so good. My mom relaxed her hair and it is hard to find products that works for her. I tried oils but it did not work out for her. We decided to leave it alone with protective style to give her hair a break. I got her vitamins, hair gummies, and collagen powder and see what happens.

You have great information and great points. People feel like a relaxer is the reason why it break off. While that maybe true for few. Most of the time it is improper applications, too ruff on process hair, and or using too much products. I had the most length with protective styles like wigs, but recently my hair broke off bad because of hormones. So I cut the it off at the most breakage but it growing again.
