The respect system or at least parts of it is still used in the final game. NPCs will begin to show more and more respect towards Vito throughout the story. You can hear peds apologize to Vito when you hit them and they even recognize you around the second half of the story. This is in contrast to early in the game when the peds curse at Vito and/or generally more hostile and disrespectful.

Liberty city in GTA 4 was one of the most realistic looking video game cities in my opinion. So many nice small details! Made it feel like a real place.

When you have full functional municipal systems that are operating in the city in spite of what you do it makes the city feel more lively and independent of your agency. That's what made Lost Heaven in the original Mafia 1 so special; it used to have not one but two interactive transit systems so it was jarring as a Mafia 1 vet to find out Mafia 2 didn't just have any at all, but it was dummied out during development.

They also cut a lot of story missions, including some missions during WW2 on Sicily, some side missions (some missions were reworked and added into DLC´s). There was also possibility to have dog or race at Empire Bay racing circuit.

i think we are talking about different developers for the 1st vs DE release. but yes, it is a shame. outside the story, which would have been more complex if you could have multiple things you could choose from - there is that emptiness outside missions. it's only animated probably by Joe, which idk if he appears outside of missions at all. it's been awhile since I played the game. the story is fine, but if it had choices that actually affected the story in some way. and the fighting mechanics were bad.. even in Gta SA is better. and we are talking here about a man who was a soldier, but he has the same fighting skills as the rest of the people. not that Mafia 3 is a step up, but they should've delayed it if they needed more time. better that way than to be sorry. at least it is playable, not like today's standards

If they ever do remake Mafia 2, i would love to see them implement most of the cut content from the original. They could probably even find a way to implement the multiple endings without contradicting Vito's role in Mafia 3. At this point, i'm kind of hoping Mafia 4 will be made using an all-new engine, which can then be used for a Mafia 2 remake. I mean, i didn't mind that the Mafia 1 remake reused Mafia 3's engine, but they should definitely upgrade.

The dragstrip bar was not a location added by Joe's adventures, it is present in the base game as a fully functional bar. My first 3 years playing this game I did not have the DLCs and I regularly got drunk at that bar, lol. The bar tender eventually says something like "good luck with your cirrhosis of the liver" after you drink a certain amount.

I love this game so much. Its by far my favorite game and I feel so good and immersed when Im playing it once a year in christmas time. Its such a pity how much of this game was cut and how much better it couldve been. Thank you for doing this. I can understand the motorcycle thing, yet i always wondered about the lack of them in all three games, given motorycles were actualy more common than cars in those times. And its pity the Gun permit was removed, given it was mentioned in the final game. And the lack of free roam is i find the biggest loss. I mean, with all the details of able to wash, repair, fuel and tune your car, able to buy clothes and food, all that you barely get the chance to in the storyline

Can you do a list of all the cut missions from Mafia 2? From what i was reading there are alot of missions which were cut for different reasons.

i wish we had Free ride after the story, Yes we can play as Jimmy or Joe in DLCs but roaming around 1950s NYC as a young and charming Vito is a different vibe

Yeah story, gameplay, npcs, musics, the feel is amazing in mafia 2 But the world is empty, no real time day and night, no side quests, cant shoting when driving.... However this is best mafia game for me. I finisher this game 7 times and sometime i install and play agane.

AK-47 is slightly more likely, but the AR15 was in 1959

Neither would make sense. AR-15 wouldn't fit the time period and the AK would be impossible to get in 1950s USA.

Awesome video and yes its really sad lots of cut content missing and was the developers was under pressure to make the game to be release in 2010 but why they didnt put the cut content back in 2020 or 2024 why i think in my oppinion the developers who work in mafia series i think they leave the studio

One of my most favorites I think they should try their best with the open world gameplay go by the vision of how your game wants to be crafted not give in to repetitive bs

Yeah the whole freeride thing really pissed me off. I don't remember what chapter but there is a point where you have to save 25k for something and that's how I'd just drive around and kill people. It's been ages since I've last played mafia 2. Miss it
