Fear of failure is what prevented me from starting my own business. I wasted 5 years of my life paralyzed by fear. I am happy to report that as of 19th May 2023 my business was approved and registered with Companies House. I still have a long way to go but your videos have been instrumental in changing my attitude and shifting my mindset. Rather than thinking of financial education as boring and a waste of time I now see it as a challenge, as something that can provide me with the opportunities to live the life I dream and to care for my family.

Excellent topic, although I have done things a bit different, instead of paying off my mortgage early I pulled money out of my residential home and invested in buy to let properties, 10 years on my rental portfolio is worth £1.7 million with £700k of equity, yes I still have a mortgage but on a house we would not have been able to afford had I not done it this way, this is truly my form of delayed gratification and leveraging on my money to make money.

Well done ! We did similar, instead of buying a home, we are renting and invested around £135k to buy a house with mortgage for letting. Then released equity to buy 2nd BTL, then again released equity from those 2 BTLs to buy 3rd one. This all happened in 4 years 4 months. Can’t believe our luck! Now we have equity around £500K in 3 BTLs, portfolio is worth around £1.35 million, mortgage £850k interest only. Instead of paying off mortgage, we reinvested the profit from BTLs to Stock and share ISAs, £40k invested every year as a couple -no income tax, no capital gain tax, no dividend tax. Now we have around £500k in stocks and shares with tax free capital growth and dividends. Again can’t believe our luck! Live in London, no car, minimum expenses, saving and investing every penny, shopping in ALDI, LIDL, Matalan, Primark and other pocket friendly shops and websites. Future plan, to reinvest our profit to BTLs when the condition is favourable. And again from BTLs profit to stock and shares. Hopefully the investment will go on and on.

Hi Ken and Mary, this is really a thought provoking video . I felt my heart beat hard when you said you stepped away from your 9-5 to become more bold to pursue your dream and now get the respect of those who thought you couldn’t. It’s really thought provoking for me and I have so many thoughts in my head about things I can do yet I feel so fearful of failing . I have a great career but aspire for more and also start my own. Even built my website. Typing this for me is also a struggle but again I’ve got to be Brave !

You've got this ❤. The reason I made that point is to encourage people like you. We call such people Dream Makers. It's within you to do it and being brave is what sets you apart. Get yourself into spaces where other people are making things happen and it will help you make sure you don't get talked out of your desire to change your life.

Another great video. I have had the goal of being financially independent since I started following you in 2017/2018. I even know what this looks like in my mind, but I had never written this down. After watching your video, I have just sat down and spent an hour putting that on paper with a 10-year plan. Your point of writing it down while on your holiday really struck true. Hopefully by doing this it will help me manifest the reality. The other aspect that I didn't quite appreciate was that I am really close to being 50% of where I want to be financially which was a little bit of a wow moment for me. Thanks for the inspiration 🙏 🙌

Hey Ken and Mary- lovely video. But my best video of all time is the mortgage one. we are currently into 2.5 years of our mortgage now still enjoying it but doing other stuff along the lines. Another great thing is that when we got our new home in 2020 the house prices have jumped high, we also put down a 15% deposit at the beginning but every year am analysing whether its possible to pay it off.
@fastandpray3158 Жыл бұрын
Hi Ken and Mary, how long did it take to payoff your house and how did you do that? And why did you choose to pay it off compared to using equity to buy another house(s)?
@TheHumblePenny Жыл бұрын
It took 7 years. Watch this video for how: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZpDEiJWZmNqNn9k . We chose to pay it off because we wanted the mental freedom and it got us to financial independence quicker. Watch this video for how it changed our lives: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fpnGenyimJlsrsk

Thank you, I found this video very interesting and useful. I have always been a driven, motivated goal setter and it’s allowed me to gain a great career in nursing and talking therapy in the NHS. It hasnt helped achieve goals around my finances tho! This year I chose to take the leap to my own private practice to work towards my financial goals for my family. That fear of failure held me back doing this and I always felt I would be selfish for leaving the NHS and ‘selling out for more money’ but I have worked on changing that mindset and I’m so glad I finally pulled the trigger. Things are going well so far and I finally after years have hope and achievable goals for my financial future! Your videos have been so helpful in gaining that financial literacy that I needed. Thank you guys x

Thank you again. Great eye-opening video. Yes, you are right the fears still hold me back. Hmm, I really do not want to lose any bits, whatever I achieved. Definitely have to be braver, as you mentioned, just to prove myself. That is how I could move forward and grow.

This one really hits home. I would go as far to say that my fear of failure is preventing me from having joy in my life. My goal is to make a comfortable living from something I enjoy. I know that I will never get there unless I take some risks and put myself out there. Luckily I do have some good people around me who would support me no matter what I do so there really is no excuses!😊
@TheHumblePenny Жыл бұрын
I feel you with this comment. You're very fortunate to have people who support you around you. My additional tip is to find take small steps to discover the thing you want to do. Who else is doing it? Can you volunteer with them to get some exposure to it? Once you're clear on this, start it will very little commitment. This way, there really is no failing. Then build gradually. The final thing to say is that you need to shift your mindset on what failure really means. Ask yourself - Where does that fear of failure come from?
@cbrockett6736 Жыл бұрын
@@TheHumblePenny Thanks so much for your reply. After reading what you said I decided to take a leap and do what I have been holding myself back from. It’s a baby step but it’s one I have been avoiding for 2/3 years due to a fear of failure. Once you can override the fear it’s an amazing feeling!

Totally agree people are too ready to blame others instead of looking at them selves. I know some who moans they are struggling with money and want a big pay rise but they are no willing to cut back on anything just keeping spending on what they want. This person has a good job and could work extra hours on a regular basis earning much more than I have ever earned but lives paycheck to paycheck. Always talking about their wants.

I really like your videos but would you please consider letting her talk without constantly echoing the end of her words or going 'aahhaa' over her. I feel you are trying to be supportive but actually what you are doing is eating into her talking time. It's much more supportive to be respectfully silent, just nodding in agreement, while she is talking rather than jump on the end of every other sentence with sound effects and essentially finishing the sentence for her. Please give her the same degree of respectful space that she gives you to make your point. You seem like a great team and I'm sure this is done out of habit rather than anything else, but it is an issue in all your videos.
