I had a 2015 1300 Tourer. I had the dealer install passenger floor boards for my GF. She had the same complaint about her legs falling asleep. I flipped the brackets on the floorboards. Try flipping the left and right mounting brackets ( that go to the floorboard) upside down it will lower the floor boards. I also put a Mustang seat on mine which raised her up an Inch or so higher. Between the seat and flipping the mounting brackets it made a big difference.

To fix the black on your hands, it's the aluminum coming off on your hands (polishing with the use of the clutch) get yourself some gloves or take the handle off and spray clearcoat on it.

For the rear tire, you don't have to stick to a stock size. I use a 160/80/16 Kenda Kruz - going on 12,000 miles now and probably get another 2000-3000 miles and they're cheap. The slightly bigger size tire will also help fix the speedometer that's runs too fast from factory. Wind from fairing - get fork lowers. I installed the Memphis Shades fork lowers and it's an amazing difference in riding. Change the horn to a FIAMM Highway Blaster High Note - cheap and literally takes less than 5 mins to change. Fits into the existing hole and the existing wires connectors are a direct fit. I have the same seat and have no problem hooking it up at the back - not sure what to tell you there. I agree about the passenger pegs - wife complains about the same thing.

+Ray Vachon Thanks for the ideas. Im not real tire savvy, so changing the size always worries me, never know what size would be ok. Not sure if those fork lowers will clear my engine bar at full turn without having to notch them out or have them swept forward vs. backwards like they should be. I have the Batwing fairing lowers being delivered today, so we will see how much those help. How does the horn sound? I want something semi truck like, rather than the Kia sound it has now. I've looked at my my seat more, it looks like the bracket on my seat is a little bent. Just need to have time to work on it. Kuryakyn makes a 2" offset for the spline adapter mounts I have that I am looking at putting on there to lower her foot position. Thanks again for the support, it means a lot to me.

I have a 2007 Vstar 1300 touring and love it. There are things that I have done to adjust it to fit my riding style. Most of what people complain about in riding are adjustments that can be made or to justify why their motorcycle isn't the best one for them. Do your research before you purchase, test ride ones that you have in mind, test ride all kinds. Have fun finding the right ride! Take your wife along for the test rides for her to state how it feels to be on the back so that she isn't riding with her knees in your armpits. The best idea is to have her ride her own, she would enjoy it much better than looking at the back of your helmet. Metzeler has a set of front and back for this bike. Adjust the handlebars and/or add a riser to them. Footrest to high? Didn't she sit on it before you purchased it or did you just bring it home? Besides, a break every few hours is good practice anyway. You changed the exhaust so why are you complaining? Your issue with the seat is not a Yamaha problem but one from switching seats, go back to the OEM if it is that much of a problem. Oil filter on the majority of cruisers are this way, there are filters that have a bolt welded at the end for a socket to fit. You added the fairing to cut down on the wind, there are also lower fairings that you can add and that takes care of the wind coming up and head vibration. It is amazing how well they work and they are worth the price. Yes the horn isn't really manly, add an air horn and be done with it. Not many come with loud horns as OEM. Tachometer can be added if you really need to see your RPMs in order to shift, experienced riders can feel and hear it. Black lines on clutch hand, no clue, mine does not do this. Heated gear helps in the winter, Gerbing. This extends the riding season. If you have a motorcycle to complain about you are blessed, there are riders out there who do not have a ride.

I suggest taking the whole thing out and ride free and have clear wind over time you will get used to it and you'll love clear view of the road.

Hmm, hard to "hate" anything about my V Star 1300T, but I will agree that a few of your points are a bit frustrating. As far as the airflow, I added the fairing lowers to my Bat Wing as well as some fork lowers. It's a very comfortable ride at highway speed. I've never had a problem getting a cup-style filter socket on my filter. The bigger issue I have is how low the bike sits and getting an oil pan under it. I have a couple of 2x10's with a beveled edge that I ride up on to get it higher off the ground, and I could still use more height. I live on the Gulf Coast, so I don't have an annoying battery tender cable on mine. I ride all year long! 64,500 miles on my 2012 bought new in January of 2013!

+MIcruiserGUY Although I've never had to do it, one old trick to loosen a stuck oil filter, is to hammer a screwdriver through the side, and use it as a lever. Somewhat messy, but effective! Regarding your bars hitting your legs, I'd definitely try moving them upwards; when I see the bar position in other 1300 videos, and in Google images, they're much higher than yours. If you still can't make it work, buying another bar with a different bend should get it sorted. I have read that Yamaha changed the bar bend on newer models. I'm trying to decide what cruiser to get, and at the top of the list is the Star 1300 at the moment, even though most people tell me to buy a Harley. I'm trying to get as much info, good and bad, before I pull the pin. I think Harley's look cool, but for touring performance, function, comfort, and price, it seems the Jap bikes are better.

Sorry you have a beautiful bike and you hate it. Handlebars/easy fix that might take 10 minutes. Great after market pipes/fixed. Tires/try a Metzler oversized 200/60R16 on rear and a factory size Metzler 888 on front. Best tires available for the money. Really no bike is perfect and to nit pick is pointless. Every point you made was personal preference and had nothing to do with the quality or integrity of the bike. Yamaha’s believe it or not are the most dependable motorcycles made. If you hate it so much, go get a Harley. You can title that video 30 things I hate about my Harley. Start with the price and end with the maintenance bill for anything you have serviced at Harley. Bike oil filters are usually smaller than on cars, so the oil-filter-wrench might not grab. On my Suzuki, I cut some heavy-duty corrugated (double-wall) cardboard and wrapped it around the filter, then it grabbed. But if the filter was put on too tight, the easy solution is to take a normal blade screw-driver, and drive it through the filter! (after you put your drain pan underneath). Then you get a lot of force from the screwdriver handle. Works every time! Nice review though. I'm shopping used. I'm 6'5" and my wife is 6'2" and now I'm not sure if this is the bike for us....

I use a Wix 51358 oil filter. Have a cup filter wrench that I had actually bought for a BMW Z3 and its a perfect fit. If you have a problem with stabbing it with a screw driver, then get use the wix and get the cup wrench at any auto parts store. If you "drill" a hole in the filter first..BE CAREFUL and stay toward the top(facing front) to make sure you dont hit the threaded tube.

Have the same bike (same pipes too), Went with the Michelin (Commander II, I think) rear tire; it's a tad bigger and the speedo is off by about 2-3 mph, but it rides and handles great. Don't have the clutch lever issue; did you lube with something working back up? As for the passenger boards, convince the wife to learn to drive; that's what I did, she bought a 750 Shadow and loves it. A pretty good bluetooth intercom system (about $100 on Amazon) and now our rides are way more enjoyable and comfortable for both of us. Definitely go with the K & N oil filter, works great. And if you haven't yet, splurge for the K&N air too, it'll give ya even more juice for the throttle.

+stovitch11 I am going to try the Metzeler ME888 this year, heard good things about it, and my speedo is already off about 5mph (over) so Im used to that. The levers arent leaking cable lube, I think its just a reaction between my skin and the raw aluminium. I might try clear coat on them like someone else mentioned. I've tried talking the wife into trying riding herself, not gonna happen. LOL. Nice try though. I am looking at getting a Sena 20s later this year. I am getting the K&N oil filter, and I have their air filter already, but I am going to get a whole new air box this year. (Kuryakyn Chrome Hypercharger) I will have a how to video on installation after I get it, so stay tuned. Thanks for the ideas and support. It means a lot to me. I've got a 2013 that I love, but the one thing that drives me crazy is trying to listen to music from my smart phone through the speakers mounted in fairing. The control for music playing is next to clutch lever. (up and down for volume and left and right for changing songs) Changing songs has never worked. You are stuck with the order from your phone. No clicking to the next song. I've taken it to the dealership and even they couldn't figure it out. I called Yamaha and they couldn't help either. I wish there was a Tach also, but you can order and install those from a secondary market. Great bike, though. 22k miles in two years.

Coolant Reservoir access #3 horrible horrible horrible. Access to the rear shock for adjusting #4. Crappy saddlebag locks #5 I've had to replace then both twice now as they get stuck in the down position, without releasing the lid. The annoying ticking sound #6. Thanks for the vid. I have the same bike and I can recommend a few things. #2, handlebar. I switched to the Roadstar Deluxe handlebar. No need for re-wiring (cables fit) and they give a much better feel. #7, airflow. I don't have a fairing, but I had a similar problem with my windshield, with buffeting for my wife in the back. I purchased some HD wind deflectors (#58125-90B). I had to trim them and add a hole, but they work great. Night and Day from before. #8, horn. I installed a Kuryakyn 7743 Super Deluxe Wolo Bad Boy Horn Kit. It puts out 118db dual-tone sound. Well worth it. #10, Lever. I switched mine to chrome ones. I hope that helps. I love my bike too.

Just bought a 2009 1300 for $2800 with the cobra straight pipes. Sold my Harley two years ago and wish I had bought the 1300 in 2014 instead. $21,000 for the Harley. What was I thinking; it was my 4th but my first new Harley. Had a chance to sell it in 2014 for about 2/3 what I paid. Idiot.

The seat latch is a real problem. I have the same issue on my 07 V-star but not as bad as you. The latch does make you slow down and really line up the seat. Also, I had the same problem with air in my chest and buffeting on my chest. I solved that problem with fork deflectors form Memphis shades. I've ranked that as the best upgrade for the V-star, I've read about a lot of complaints with buffeting and the wind coming up from under the fairing and windscreen.

on a 4 valve head with a fork style rocker arm you must place a feeler gauge in both, to check as well as adjust your clearance. Because it will tip to the side that has no gauge and you will get a false reading.

I have a 2014 Vstar 1300 touring edition and love it. 1. Yes, having 2 different wheel sizes are crazy, but you are bitching about 11k miles on a tire and 'cant' find a tire to replace it with". ???? Metzeler has a set of front and back for this bike. Problem solved. 2. If your legs are in the way roll the handlebars DUH. I take tight corners on mine and don't have this issue. 3. Can't understand this one. your wife's knees are in your armpits? weird. (didn't you look at the bike with her on it before you bought it? You two much ride really strange . 4. Most folks don't like any stock bikes exhaust. You changed it and are still complaining.. why? 5. Your issue is with Mustang seat, not Yamaha about the issues with the seat. Get over it, or go back to the OEM seat. 6. Oil filter. Most cruisers are this way. It's a design issue. Not a deal breaker to me. 7. Your fairing looks like it's aftermarket. I have the OEM fairing and have NO issues with it. 8. Yes, nearly all stock horns are this way. Get a more 'manly' horn if it bothers you and change it, I did. But I don't gripe about it like you do. 9. Tach ? Seriously? You are a cruiser not a crotch rocket. 10. Can't figure this one out. Sorry. Some of this is with aftermarket stuff that does not a warrant a slap to Yamaha for a great bike,

The stock tires gave me 17K on the front tire. Only 6,800 in the back. Metzlers solved that issue. 15K out of the back for the second tire. If you really want to see a tach use an hour counter off a dirt bike. It will give you a reasonable idea on what RPM you are using. The floorboards for the wife can be repositioned by using the right side extension on the left and vice versa. It gains about two more inches of lowering effect.

Why did u buy the bike? The seats aftermarket so won’t go in easy, the bat wing looks after market and as for turning full lock and hitting your knees, when does someone turn full lock while riding. Only moving around the shed I’d go full lock, for ur wife you can get a lowering kit for her legs and from sound of it you seem tall. Be extension kit and will fix ur knee issues and will help the wind buffer.

Same problem with handlebars and knees. That’s the problem with buying online without trying, during lockdown. I tried pivoting them forward a little. Probably try 10” mini apes later this year. Otherwise I just move my knee on tight turns. And highway pegs are hardly standard either! So quoting them in your buffering issue is nul and void too. Everyone who knows anything about bat wing fairings knows about using lower wind deflectors. Horn? Honestly? Apart from HD and BMW all oem horns are feeble.

I have far too much transmission sound! I enjoy the rumble of my pipes, but the marble and rocks rolling around the transmission case drowns out the sound I enjoy. Secondly, the positioning of the speedometer dial covers information such as the time on the digital clock or my mileage, if I can see the speedometer at all. Sunlight wipes out the gauge if I am riding away from the sun. I wish I could tilt it up. I love riding the bike, but the rattling transmission sounds are the worst.

Very informative - you mention some things that seem to be overlooked by all the other reviews I've read. The black coming off the clutch lever is most likely aluminum. An easy fix is to clear coat at least 2 or 3 coats which will act as a barrier between the aluminum and your skin. Also you might consider making an adapter bracket to lower those passenger footrests. Happy wife = happy life. Also raise the bars until they no longer hit your leg - they seem low.

Using a brush to apply the clear coat would allow you to paint only the part of the lever that contacts your skin. I'm sure any clear coat / liquid plastic would do the job. At least 2 coats.

Ill agree with you on the Handlebars. too damn low for a proper cruiser. shouldnt have to clamshell on a bagger style cruiser frame. and the floorboards are so far back that in order to sit right while going down the road you NEED highway pegs. problem is you cant use forward controls and highway bars at the same time. my other big gripe is that damed air cleaner box. its so massive your leg rests against it while going down the road and that thing gets hot. other than those two things i like the bike. i just wish it was bigger, im a big dude. lol.

I have a 2012 yamaha 1300 and the only thing I hate about my motorcycle is that I wish it was shaft driven instead of Kevlar . If it was shaft driven I wouldn't have my hand always on the clutch when I'm in traffic . The bike always want to be in the power band . If it's not in the power band you can hear the Kevlar or chain slacking off as though it's rubbing on something . If it was shaft driven I could take my hand off the throttle and let the bike coast in first or second gear with out squeezing the clutch to prevent the bike from stalling . If you don't squeeze the clutch the bike will ride ruff as though it will stall . I was expecting that to be one of the 10 thing he hates about his bike but that's not the case . These thing you mention I believe is foolishness especially the handle bar . That handle bar didn't come with this bike . If you can find 10 thing you don't like then sell the bike . My next bike will be shaft driven not Kevlar driven . I need my rest in traffic .

And it and the ring get caught under the handlebar cover all the time and it is SO FREEKING AGGRAVATING!! I hate it so bad, I hate it I hate it I hate it. I feel like I'm gonna break the key every time I try to pull it out. What a stupid place to put the key, there's not enough room. Other than that I wish the seat was lower I feel like I sit up to high. Which causes me to have to lift my chin up more than usual it makes it very uncomfortable on a even a 30 min. ride. My neck begins to hurt very bad. I changed my handlebar out, love that, love the power, also changed the exhaust, love the sound, I like that it's belt driver over shaft. Makes for less bad vibes in high gear lower speeds. Also have the same problem with the highway bars so I don't ever use them too much wind up in my chest If I could lower the seat Get a tach, that didn't look like a red neck add on and move the position of the key it'd be awesome!

Ill bet the mustang seat sits Higher , which causes the problem of hitting the handle bars, and also causes the seat latch problem. I owned a Roadliner whitch had the same problems with the upgraded Mustang seat. Also changing the exhaust after complaining about the stock one. As far as I am concerned, every motorcycle offered for sale in the USA has a stifled exhaust which is simply installed to pass the federal rules.. The dealers are able to take advantage of this and up-sell the customers before they even get out of the showroom. If you like good sound out of your motorcycle, you will always need to upgrade. I have owned a Roadliner, Bolt and just got a 1300 tourer. All are decent motorcycles for the price.

The new one is almost 3 inches wider and much more comfotable for her. My helmet was pretty loud on the highway. I think most helmets will be. I just upgraded to a Shoei RF1200 and it is much quieter. Most of the noise i think is the way the air comes off the windshield and buffits around my head. If i duck down behind it, there is hardly any noise. Thanks again for the support and I hope this helps you out.
