It's interesting how Peter Capaldi believes that once you've done the part, it's done. That rather flies in the face of the show's own history and even a lecture his Doctor gave to an audience. But there's a balance to be struck there. I don't particularly relish the idea of AI Doctors cropping up in some future equivalent of the anniversary specials. Once in a while is a novelty. Every other year is not.

I agree with all of them. Except for a couple you’ve mentioned. 1 - I actually think having the tardis changing exterior for a couple episodes or more would actually be a cool premise. The Doctor could figure out why he/she can’t change it back to a police box. Obviously it doesn’t mean it’s going to be a permanent change because the police box is so iconic. 2- It’s always possible to have a Canadian or an American playing The Doctor. We’ve had a Canadian and an American Master in the TV movie. As long as they take a good amount of dialect classes to put on an accent. But it depends on the direction of the showrunner. It would give every actor who dreams of it, a chance. The show is always changing but never say never. As long as the Canadian/American performer doesn’t change The Doctor too much and keep to the formula, we should be safe for that. Non relative topic: it could be a risk but we shouldn’t have Earth Bound episodes all the time. It could get stagnant and the viewership could go down. The last season had a couple of episodes with alien planets, which was a breath of fresh air. Even if the aliens were human-like. Don’t get me wrong, being on Earth does make Doctor Who, Doctor Who. It would be nice though, to change the atmosphere more often.

What if The Doctor's accent is due to his companion has that accent? Like maybe The 11th Doctor's relationship with Amy could have explained why The 12th Doctor has a Scottish accent. It could be something to do with the TARDIS' ability to translate languages, which would explain how Shakespeare and so on have MODERN British accents despite the fact that modern British accents only go back as far as the 18th century (or was it the 19th?), with British accents prior to that sounding more like modern American accents.

I think it'd probably be fine to have an american actor so long as the PART is still British. Like having Henry Cavill (a British actor) play the all-american Superman - who fights for "truth, justice and the american way". We've also had TWO British Spidermen. All three still play their parts as american, because that's the character. Especially in Superman's case - like the Doctor, he embodies characteristics of the country that created him, despite being an alien. It worked perfectly fine that way round so I don't see why the same can't be true in reverse, if you can find an american who can do a convincing enough accent.

I remember an interview that Verity Lambert gave when she said that seeing the Timelords and landing on Gallifrey decreased the Doctor's mystery and spoke about the benefits of not knowing the Doctor too much. In a way, if we ever have an episode where we meet the doctor's family members, it would feel as if we knew his name. Think about, imagine if we knew everything about the Doctor and the only reduced mystery we have is his name, we might as well what his name is. Yeah, like Colin Baker was humble. The biggest reason why revealing the Doctor's name would be a bad idea is because nothing that gets revealed would mean anything. If there is going to be an American Doctor, he or she must exist in a parallel Universe. The American Doctor can be a female. She needs to be a person who seems to be more of an Urban Myth than a real person. In the Whovianverse, the people of the Earth are aware of alien beings due to the presence of the Doctor. Almost everyone accept the truth about the existence of Aliens, but continue to ignore the truth most of the time as to continue to live their normal lives. Oddly due to the Great Time War, it does have a major impact on the other universes. In the Universe of the American Doctor, there is a war going on in many parts of the known galaxy due to the effects of the Great Time War. One true argument against the American Doctor is the complex nature of American Society. One facet of American Society is how excessive which the American Media has become. A large part of the American Media is Tabloid related. For the American Doctor to succeed, the Doctor must have a degree of Privacy. The Tabloid part of the American Media is notable in the other areas of the Mass Media. So the ideal of the American Doctor being an Urban Myth helps her a lot. The government is aware of the Doctor's existence. It treats her existence as an Urban Myth. Yet the evidence of American Doctor treats her as if she is like Bigfoot. Oddly the best way to keep the Doctor's status an Urban Myth is to make her into a person who is very private. While the Doctor is known to help a lot of people, she continues to be treated like Bigfoot as an Urban Myth.

If American Doctor is such a problem, why is Rwandan Doctor okay?
@the-scamp5 күн бұрын
Because it's a British tv show.

Ncuti really isn't Rwandan though, is he? Yes, he was born there, but he's lived in the UK for almost the entirety of his life. He barely has any memories of Rwanda. If someone who just met him asked "where are you from?" he'd probably answer Scotland.

An American Doctor with a Sontaran companion going around all of space and time shooting all their problems would be hilarious for all the wrong reasons.
@lexruptor5 күн бұрын
He wouldn't shoot anything though, like? I'm American, unfortunately, and I think if you think an American Doctor would suddenly be gun-happy, you missed the point The Doctor, and really know nothing about Americans either. I do like the Sontaran Companion idea though, I could see some unknown scrawny American actor, probably young, as The Doctor, traveling around modern-day London with a Sontaran Companion, saving the universe with words and random office supplies, idk why people think that would be any different from what we get from Matt Smith or David Tennant, but ig Brits have some messed up generalized biases against Americans, so they think it would somehow be so drastically different. It really wouldn't be though.

We have a British actor playing Spiderman Dr. Strange etc. There are a lot of American actors that could play the Doctor, don't be a hypocrite. And who's to say the Doctor can't have an American accent. Unlike James Bond the Doctor is from Galifrey not England.

When DW stories were multi-part serials (as in ClassicWho), releasing in a chunk makes more sense, so you can watch the story as a "movie" in one go, as opposed to NuWho, which are more singular stories (maybe a 2-parter thrown in)...

A just phoned up Robin Whitehouse. "Eddow?", said a voice, sounding like he got a block'd up nose. It was Whitehouse. A then proceeded to take the mock out of Whitehouse, for a full harlf hour. A said lots, but it was mostly mocking his peg. Then, A threatened to tar and feather him. Whitehouse got mad. Suddenly, A heard a thud. "Oh no, oy'm having problem's breathing! ", A heard whitehouse screaming down the line, sounding like his nose totally block'd up. Then, suddenly, the line went dead. A hung up, laughing.

I thought the ending provided by World Enough and Time/The Doctor Falls and Twice Upon a Time were good and a great way to end show, but then Chibnall and RTD then had to wreck it. Thankfully, we have so many more years of content to satisfy us (the audios, books and comics). And if you have a problem with Series 7B's opening titles, you have a problem with a lot of the show's history as every doctor from the Classic Series (apart from William Hartnell) had at least one point their faces in the opening titles.

I disagree that Doctor Who can't do a definitive end. In a way, I wish that they had done in 2017, do away with the David Tennant regenerated into himself thing from 2013, and have the Twelfth Doctor die at the end of The Doctor Falls. The show can always be timeless without going on forever; we can always have novels, audios, and comics without the main universe lasting on TV forever. Hell, if you still wanted it on TV, you could have gone in cycles of the doctor reaching thirteen lives, dying, and a new universe beginning. Closure is a good thing every now and again.

I gotta somewhat disagree with number 2. It's understandable . don't get me wrong!, culture wise it would be different and clash but it's more or less you need the proper actor and designate a focus for the doctor incarnation they play as, there really isn't a base line of what defines the doctor other than a humble traveler from the stars. Giving an American actor could be good to bring a different flair to the role, I see RDJ's Sherlock Holmes type of role as a good example but only time will tell. Also, it's disney now so I kinda doubt they are gonna respect that.
