Hey, yes It's not advised to carry Rice, Daal, Grains, Salt, or Sugar. Basically, anything that's a White powdered material. Also, I know couple of people who ever abled to get it through but again, its not advised.

Hi, no, never submit your original certificates. They ask xeroxes and probably just attest it. That's all is required. Bring the Original certificate with you when you come to usa. If needed you will have to show them but keep it with yourself.
