I just ordered the D2 version with G10 scales. I really like D2. I’ve been carrying a Cryo in D2 and it has served me well. I’m semi-retired and I work on small engines out of my garage. I’m no longer working full time on a factory floor, so my needs have changed. But as far as a budget EDC goes I think the Elementum will be able to meet and exceed my needs and it falls well within the folds of my wallet.

Nice video, thanks! I recently grabbed this exact version of the Elementum that you are showing. (They sell out pretty fast on BHQ!) I've debated holding on to it as an "investment' knife or putting it in my EDC rotation. Civivi retires their knives quickly, and I've been able to flip a few for a profit to further fund my knife habit. But this one sure is a sweetheart! One of my favorite Civivi knives is the recently retired Aquila...I'd love to see that come back with some premium treatment as well. Thanks again for the solid content!

I wish listed the D2 model last Christmas. 3 people got it for me, the detent strength is not based on the model, there is just variance in the detent manufacturing process. I can say that having tested all 3 of them. One detent was almost too stiff, but scary snappy. Honestly, I found that there is a bit of training to get your finger use to making a flipper on ball bearings flip, and a little oil in bearings of course. Not unlike the first time you use a thumb stud with your middle finger to flick out a blade, just practice.

@@WaynesSharpWorld I've gotta ask, you intrigued me with the micarta comments, is it rough and grippy like how I'd want micarta to be? Maybe on a scale of 1-10? I keep getting micarta handled knives, only for them to be super smooth. Kinda defeats the purpose. I'm craving a really grippy rough micarta like you'd find on a fixed blade.
@WaynesSharpWorld
@WaynesSharpWorld 4 жыл бұрын
M Sharmall there’s just a certain texture on the surface of it. Kinda grainy/bumpy? Have you had the Giant Mouse Ace Grand in hand by chance? Now that has some smooth micarta! Still nice just a different texture than the micarta on the S35VN Elementum.

You got a subscriber with me since you asked, but my main thing about knives is the blade play on each every knife. I always like to know if there is any play up and down side to side or whether it’s a solid set blade and something you could depend on not many folks show that in their videos. A blade that looks good and has great material but the blade shakes and wiggles like its dancing strung out on crack. A blade that don’t walk is a knife for Me!!!
@WaynesSharpWorld
@WaynesSharpWorld 4 жыл бұрын
Random Guy from Texas thank you so much for your support! I will make a note to cover that in every review from this point out! No idea why I’m not mentioning that already, as it’s also a HUGE turnoff for me with a knife as well.

Now for the premium treatment? Wow this is so easy because Civivi has some really nice models. The Odium would definitely be a prize if it were bigger and an S35vn. The Wyvern model is great all it needs is the steel upgrade to S35vn. The Ripple would be great in S35vn also! The thing is you give your advice, the company uses it or does it but you won't get compensated with at least a knife which sucks!

My blue D2 Elementum has a weak detent. Ive tried all the tricks to increase detent strength with no luck. I'm definitely getting the S35VN version particularly if they made the detent stronger than what I got with my Elementum. Mine is still a great knife, but I have to give it extra force if I don't want a limp blade hanging in the air. 😅
@WaynesSharpWorld
@WaynesSharpWorld 4 жыл бұрын
Williams Knife Life yea you’ll definitely enjoy the detent on the S35VN version then. Although I’m still not sure if Civivi actually made the detent stronger or if just the difference in blade weight and thickness makes the detent stronger. I’m pretty sure it’s the latter of the two.

you can try adding some spring tension to the liner by bending it - (even if doing so can feel kind of wrong and lacking in scientific precision/measurement), it can be quite effective for increasing or decreasing the detent. It's funny that you mentioned the blue Elementum because mine, (also blue g10), came with very strong detent & I had to press flipper way too hard. I "de-sprung" the liner lock by bending it back a bit and now it's got a perfect tension.

“That 0.002 of an inch is going to make it a much better slicer.” So, what are you slicing with your knives? Don’t mean that to sound like a butthead, I’m just trying to determine where most people get their slicing groove on. For me it’s cardboard. Are you slicing wood, or food, or zip ties, or what?
@WaynesSharpWorld
@WaynesSharpWorld 3 жыл бұрын
Well the difference isn’t .002, it’s .02 which a is a massive difference in terms of comparison. The D2 model’s stock is .12” and the S35VN is .10”. It does equate to a bit of a slicier blade, and I did notice a small difference when cutting cardboard. 👍🏼
