Old money style is about wearing your Grandmother's old smelly Barbour you inherited, a country tweed pleated skirt and cashmere crew twin set with your hair scraped back under a Hermes silk scarf. It hasn't got much to do with the items you've mentioned in this video.

My grandmother taught me quiet luxury when I was in my teens. Women that wear pajama bottoms and slippers to run errands, that’s just the height of laziness.

Your grandmother gave you such valuable lessons-quiet luxury is timeless and speaks volumes about intentional style. As for pajama bottoms and slippers in public, everyone has their own comfort zone, but it’s definitely a far cry from polished elegance! 😊✨

back in the day when distressed jeans were something you had to do yourself, they didn’t sell them that way…I loved faded and patched jeans, and still only like that look if it is natural, not contrived, not obviously bought that way. To me, there is a difference. I think as you get older, you can wear what flatters you, as long as you don’t overdo it.

For a few years, I have purchased more solid pieces. It has helped me a lot with my outfit choices. Less is more. Even my nails are natural. I can't always pay for manicures so I put a light gloss and keep them trimmed.

Being 6’ tall, my mom always told me that since I would stand out because of my height, I should keep my clothing simple and tailored. I went along with this, but with one edgy piece like a scarf (I like to buy scarves from museum gift shops - they’re often colorful and classy), or a handbag (Hammett is great), and the video is right - shoes can make or break your outfit. I do buy trendy pieces that might be in style for a little while, but I never pay much for them. Hit the pricier stores for the sales for your basic, classic pieces. I’m not rich, but I keep my wardrobe smallish, but with good pieces that will last for years. My mom was pretty smart!

Your mom gave you fantastic advice-simple, tailored clothing is perfect for showcasing your height, and adding one standout accessory like a colorful scarf or a stylish handbag is such a smart way to keep it interesting and personal. It sounds like you’ve mastered thoughtful, elegant style while being savvy about spending. Your mom would be proud-what a smart and stylish role model! 😊✨👗👜

You cannot put an Indian woman wearing jewellery without some context - her outfit shows her in a sari which means she was at a wedding or a religious function so her jewellery is on point in the situation. Jewellery is huge in Indian culture and some well known western designers have drawn inspiration from Indian jewellery and designs.Please look at some literature and learn about the significance of jewellery in Indian culture before boldly sharing a photo and depicting it as not a good way to wear jewellery. I wear bold, chunky jewellery all the time and always get compliments - from your so called ‘upper class’ women. Dainty jewellery doesn’t suit me so we should consider personal style as well. Just saying.
@Timeless_Living
@Timeless_Living Ай бұрын
You bring up such an important point-context and culture are everything when it comes to fashion and jewelry. Indian jewelry is deeply rooted in tradition and symbolism, and its boldness is entirely appropriate for occasions like weddings or religious ceremonies. Western designers have indeed drawn heavily from Indian aesthetics, recognizing their beauty and significance. Personal style is also key-what works for one person might not suit another, and bold, statement pieces can be as elegant as dainty ones. Thank you for sharing this perspective-it’s a valuable reminder to approach fashion with cultural awareness and appreciation! 😊✨

Being a child of the 60's I was raised with quiet luxury. My mother made our clothing when I was growing up, a lost talent these days, but when she did buy us clothing or shoes, you grew out them before they wore out. Spiegel was a quiet luxury company, i truly miss them. When you grow up like this it does follow you as an adult. Quince is a beautiful quiet luxury co that sells excellent linens, cashmere, and washable silk. They are very affordable. Everybody should know when you buy designer products you are only paying for the name!

What a lovely upbringing rooted in quality and thoughtfulness! Having a parent who prioritized well-made clothing truly leaves a lasting impression-it teaches you to value durability and timeless style over fleeting trends. Spiegel was indeed a gem, and it’s great to see brands like Quince stepping in to fill that quiet luxury space with beautiful and affordable options. You’re absolutely right about designer products-so much of the price tag is about the name. Prioritizing quality materials like linen, cashmere, and silk without the hefty markup is such a smart way to shop. Thank you for sharing this thoughtful perspective-it’s inspiring! 😊✨

And rather drab. Neutral colors are ok, but wearing exclusively neutral colors is boring and predictable. Including more colorful pieces in flattering colors is a great way to make your style your own. I have a coral pink cotton dress that I wear in the summer that I always get complimented on as well as a burnt orange sweater that also flatters me. And I make a point of spicing up my neutrals with colorful shoes and other accessories.

@@Timeless_LivingWhat now?!? When someone comment, she think old money fashion is boring, you tell her to put colorful accessory on it, but you also tell in your video, colorful bags, shoes, jewelry are tacky and cheap. For me, fashion is fun and Queen Elizabeth and Queen mumm are very off-centered with the wild pattern and color, chunky shoes and hats from designer Philip Treacy. Royle-Ascot without the ladies day, unthinkable.

I’m a huge LV fan and collector, but I do need to be careful about the rest of my outfit. I don’t see an issue with a tastefully branded bag, but what I can’t stand is when I see a woman full of Botox and fake tan, a huge branded belt AND a shirt and/or trousers that are heavily branded AND branded jewelry and accessories AND a heavily branded bag. The title should be “Too many rips” or “Too much ripping.” (not too much rips) If you can count something, such as a rip, the subject is treated as singular.
