Kenny Loggins had one of the greatest runs of any artist in the 80's. Him on a soundtrack meant a classic movie ensued.
@snowcat89713 жыл бұрын
"Over the Top" (arm wrestling with Sly Stallone) wasn't a classic movie, but "Meet Me Half Way" was a big hit for Loggins. So even if a movie didn't have a lot of success, his songs certainly did. I did get to see him in concert in Nashville a few years ago, and he still is an awesome performer.

I was a junior in high school when Footloose came out. I even wrote a review for the school newspaper. The review basically said "the movie is a must see. It speaks out on how sometimes we as teenagers can make a change for the good. Even though we should respect our elders, adults need to realize we are not toddlers anymore and sometimes actually know what we're talking about. Full of energy and music." I distinctly remember saying ".....no wonder Roger Ebert doesn't understand this movie." LOL

One of my favorite elements about Footloose is that on top of being a musical, and a romance, it's also a good buddy picture. The chemistry between Chris Penn and Bacon was really good. I also like the fact that Lithgow is not really an enemy, just a grieving Dad who feels he's doing the right thing. My favorite scene is when Lithgow stops his parishioners from burning books, telling them the enemy is within themselves.
@slcRN19713 жыл бұрын
That friendship between those two is one of the best things in the movie. Yes, the comment about the enemy within is certainly a huge factor today .......... with far too many chronically negative people!!! The ‘golden rule’ needs to make a huge comeback: ‘If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all.’!!!

Thanks for this. Footloose is definitely remembered for its music and 80s aesthetic but I also feel like it’s got an under-appreciated message. The story of teenagers growing up in a strict fundamentalist environment and finding private ways to buck the system resonates with me every time I rewatch it (the book-burning scene is something I literally witnessed as a teen). In particular the scene where Ariel is talking to her dad and she says “I know it hasn’t been easy for you. But I’m just not sure I believe all the same things that you do.” And Jon Lithgow’s clear mental anguish later as he says to the congregation, “If we don’t start trusting our children, how will they ever become trustworthy?”

8:47 that billboard advertisement is actually for the 2011 reimagined _Footloose_ movie, due to the MTV Films logo and the official movie website in the lower right-hand corner of the billboard itself. Also, the date, October 14, corresponds to the 2011 version of the movie, because the original 1984 version was theatrically released in the US on February 17, 1984. An interesting fact about the 2011 version Kevin Bacon was offered a cameo in that movie as Ren McCormick's deadbeat father, but he turned the part down.

I always loved the fact that the entire point of why Shaw banned drinking and dancing was because his own son was so irresponsible and wild it caused his and his friends' deaths and because his grief over it and how he thought he failed with him was so powerful he didn't bring all of the other kids together to TALK to them about it and ask them how THEY felt about it too. How Ariel rebelled because it changed him so much after they had been so close and then he wouldn't listen to or talk to her like he used to, she thought he really didn't care about her anymore, and after she finally told him how much it hurt her he talked to Ren about it:( His intentions were in the right place just like the kids' were, but they lost touch with each other and ran away from instead of toward each other... And I tried with the remake, I REALLY did, but OW, was it PAINFUL...the kid named Worm being the worst part of it...

I feel that Ariel Moore, Ren McCormack's romantic interest/significant other had VERY little character development in both the original film and 2011 remake. She should've been given a small backstory of where she babysat Ren's cousins, Sarah and Amy Warnicker before the beginning of the story, such as during the summers and while in school on occasion before Ren moved to Bomont from Chicago (Boston in the remake) all the while was paid for her services and had secretly taught Ren's cousins how to dance during her babysitting gigs. She also could have been a cheerleader, too.
