Back then every show had 23 or more episodes per season every year, now takes 2-3 years to produce 8 or 9 episodes and call it a full season, meanwhile viewers forgot all about it, The Last Of Us is still a thing right? For 10 year old me and all my school mates this was the highlight of our week. Bloody lovely. It didn't last long. The formulaic story-telling soon began to become stale. The show went from "Must Watch", to "Sometimes Watch", to watch anything else, or do anything else, just in case that sodding Big Foot makes another appearance. What were they thinking? The inclusion of the Furry was way too silly. We could not care less which North American celebrity was donning the outfit. It could have been the First Lady for all we cared. It seemed like a desperate attempt to try something new. Still, it was fun while it lasted. Tremendous TV for children. There were toys? Really? Blimey, they kept that one secret. Most of us had the disappointing Evel Knackered, but no-one mentioned a Bionic Man to us. Nice one Minty, Cheers.
@jasontoddman72654 күн бұрын
You can blame Fred Freiburger for the silliness. He also helped ruin Star trek in its third season and Space:1999 in its second. The man was a syfy-show killer for sure. And you didn't know about the dolls? Gosh, you must not have read many comic books at the time then either; those dolls were advertised continually for years in the things. Well, at least in the comics *I* read, which were mostly from a now obscure company called Gold Key rather than DC or Marvel.
@tomsenior74054 күн бұрын
@@jasontoddman7265 Thank for everything you have mentioned. I honestly appreciate this and I bow to your expert knowledge. As a fan of Space 1999, yes I know of the Serial Killer. That annoying little fellow ruined a show we genuinely loved. What a pillock. At least we still have the Eagles, Alan Carter and the first series to keep us going. "Bringers of Wonder" was one good thing to come out of Series 2. When an episode titled "Luton" came out, that killed 1999. Luton Airport was the punchline to a very successful ad campaign. There were comics as well? Bloody hell, The 6 Million Dollar Man must have been all over the Shop in North America. Marvel and DC were not widely known in GB (Now the UK), at least not with children. The Top selling comics of that era were still The Beano and The Dandy. They were overtaken by Commando and Battlefield as the decade moved on. 2000AD was a game changer. Ultra violent images became a concern for parents and a joy for children. Superman was unknown to us until 1978. Batman was a short lived gay romp. North American cultural phenomenon are not not Global cultural phenomenon. I didn't encounter a McDonalds until the 1990s. Now the vile eateries are everywhere. What was all the fuss about KFC? When one opened up about 12 miles from my home in the late 1990s, it closed down soon after. In the early 1970s Spaghetti Bolognaise replaced Fish & Chips for a while. Now its the eponymous Ruby Murray that takes top spot. Chinese Take-Aways keep lingering on, but the quality is poor. Pizzas have dropped off a cliff. I experience a lot of negative comments when I ask questions on "Weird History Food". I must be stupid for not seeing Campbells soup for sale. Am I blind? Its in every store in America!. (Every Store in America doing a lot of heavy lifting there. I think Campbells was banned, due to its non-food content). Thank you. I honestly appreciate your kind words. You have expanded my knowledge of a foreign country's perception of what constitutes "The World". I would be crying, if it wasn't so funny. My very best wishes to you and all the best to you and yours. Cheers.

There is ANOTHER professional wrestling connection besides Andre the Giant portraying Bigfoot. The iconic Stone Cold Steve Austin. No he did not appear in the show or movies BUT the SMDM character name was accidentally used by the wrestler Steve Austin. Based on interviews Ive listened to, the wrestler's real name is Steve Williams and is from Victoria, TX. In his professional debuting days, he started out using his actual name Steve Williams. But both him and wrestler-booker Dutch Mantell said there is already a established wrestler from Oklahoma with the name Steve "Dr. Death" Williams. Dutch Mantell told Steve Williams to come up with another name by his next match. Williams said he had not figured out one. Mantell said he immediately changed him to Steve Austin (using the city and capitol of Texas since Williams was from TX). Williams questioned this since the name is also used for the character six million dollar man Colonel Steve Austin. Mantell challenged him to come up with another name. But Williams couldnt. So he remained the now changed to Steve Austin.

Interestingly enough, Alan Oppenheimer actually played the voice of Dr. Amadeus Sharpe on the Bionic Six. I only remember it, cause it freaked me out, how he looked in the mask & all, lol. Also, the above mentioned Amazing Stories episode, scared the crap outta me, lol.

If you watched "The Venture Brothers" you'd know Steve Austin and Sasquatch are deeply in love with each other.

Few shows piqued my interest like this one. The only fan club I ever belonged to. A all time favorite ❤

Thanks Minty. Great episode. I watched Steve first run back in the day. They don't make good shows like this anymore. And, I still have both my Steve Austin and bionic Bigfoot 'action figures' on my desk.

Go back and experience? I might need a time-machine to do that. I can’t say I’ve ever seen a DVD or Blu-Ray of the show in stores, and I couldn’t begin to guess what streaming service would be carrying it.

The complete series is available on DVD and Bluray on Amazon as well as Walmart. . It is also currently streaming on Peacock

Didn't grace the earth with my presence till 75 but, I would catch re-runs of the show here and there in the 80's when I was old enough. Loved the Bionic Six cartoon though and have the complete series on DvD on the shelf somewhere which I pop in from time to time along with other 80s and 90s cartoons for the feels. :D

3:47 - In the mid-'90s, Hercules: The Legendary Journeys would get 5 feature-length tv movies prior to its first season of a regular ongoing episodic series.

It's definitely one of my favorite shows of action in the 1970s, along with the spin-off which I watched earlier this year of the 3 seasons on Roku as well as the short-lived reboot. That series and The Incredible Hulk were my action adventure shows when I was a boy growing up in that era of only 3 major television networks.

Big part of my childhood here. Action/adventure with just a little bit of body horror mixed in...

Hell, I remember when that was on TV. Everyone at my school loved it. God knows what the teachers made of it with all the kids pretending to run in slow motion while they sung the programmes theme song, or trying our best to jump in slow motion while going "Duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh!" or "Do-do-do-do-do!" They must've thought we'd all lost our minds at first before they got clued in. Everyone in the school wanted to be bionic like Steve Austin, forgetting that they'd have to suffer a horrific accident that'd inflict terrible physical injuries on them first. The thought never bothered anyone even a bit, "Hey, sure you can cut off my legs of and replace them with experimental prosthetics! Go right ahead. Do my arms too while you're about it!" If they were to remake it I think Ryan Gosling would be a good choice for Steve, he has that Lee Majors charm and charisma. And, no matter how tempting, it shouldn't be campy or played for laughs. The original novel was quite dark and gritty so playing it closer to the book would be great.

@midnightmosesuk, yeah, I really miss the days when kids would be talking about what was on TV & in the movies. I think my generation was one of the last to do that. Nowadays, sadly, the kids are only interested in playing on their phones, or talking about Facebook posts, or other various Social media BS trends.

I remember watching Six Millions Dollars Man with my brothers and mom and dad. When I find in tv sit down and watch. Bring back a lot of memories

I wonder if $6 million could pay for these upgrades now. It would probably only get you a bionic finger or something. Edit: I made this post before the end of the video.

I was 15 in 1987, and I never heard of the cartoon. I remember both of the TV shows as re-runs though. Great video.
