Not having the two biggest stars from the Attitude era was when they had to push new stars (Lesner, Cena, Orton), and the end of that Era.

@@stretch273 For most part the Eras are WWE/F changing to the values, and the interest of the time it takes place in. Most long running shows are like this. The only other show that has lasted as long I can think of is SNL, and the comedy on SNL has changed to match the time it is in just like the WWE/F Eras. 90's SNL is as different from 70s SNL as it is from today's SNL.

The attitude era is overrated. It is great, but people complain about how Raw barley has any wrestling today when in the attitude era, there would barely be any wrestling at all. And if there was any wrestling (on Raw), 9/10 times it was shit. Great stories, bad matches. At least Ruthless Agression era had a great mix of the slightly toned down gritty stories but it got backed up with great matches. I love the attitude era, but people make it seem like this untouchable force and that nothing will be good until a group of people in some office in L.A. think a TV 14 rating is appropriate.
@johnt.campbell3165 жыл бұрын
Agreed. It's treated as this Christ-Like Era, when really, the wrestling was really bad, but some of the most creative stories were told during that time. It's the era I grew up with, but I admit, the wrestling in the Ruthless Aggression Era was much better. Kurt Angle came along and made the standard higher.

what makes the attitude era godly for me is the memorable personalities. every mid carder was cool ( at least in the later years), tag team stables were awesome, ppvs felt must see. the best part of the era (for me at least) are the n64 and playstaton games. No mercy, smackdown 2. i think the reason people view the era as the best is because of its stars like kane, undertaker, mankind, austin, rock, kurt angle, etc. and it all culminated in 1999-2000. the way it peaked with its overall popularity in pop culture and mainstream conversations was undoubtedly unique and its entirely due to being damn good tv.

On the WWE Network in the Raw replay section it states that the Attitude Era started on December 15, 1997 Raw (Vince McMahon speech to the WWF audience) and the end of the Attitude Era ended on March 26, 2001 Raw (WWF buys WCW and go home show for WrestleMania X-Seven) I personally say WrestleMania X-SEVEN was the end and I would personally say December 15, 1997 Raw started it.

Summerslam Bret Hart vs Undertaker with Shawn Michaels as Referee seems like the most logical point to signal the beginning of the Attitude era. The attitude era ending at WrestleMania X8 is my head Cannon. I mean think about it, the Rock (face of the Attitude Era) vs Hogan (face of WCW during the late 90s) being the final showdown with the Rock coming out on top
@leerobbo925 жыл бұрын
Yeah, but the Rock realistically wasn't the face of the Attitude Era, Austin was. Plus, by the time of X8 we'd already been through 6-8 months of the Invasion angle, which felt completely different to Attitude Era programming, not to mention all those WCW and ECW faces being on regular WWE TV, and then had another 4-6 months of programming *after* the Invasion had finished. By the time of X8 absolutely nobody was thinking about Rock vs Hogan as anything WCW related, just WWE icon vs WWE icon.

There's no official first day of the Attitude Era and there's no official last day of the Attitude era... All I know is if you want to tell the whole story of how the Attitude Era began you have to go back to 1996. The era didn't begin because Vince said it did in November 97. And it didn't end at Wrestlemania 17. As a fan back then I felt the era ended a year later for several reasons. I can go into a bunch of detail but long story short when Austin walked out in June 2002 and by Rock losing to Brock at Summer Slam 2002 before leaving for a movie, was the final two nails in the coffin for the Attitude era. Brock played a part of starting the Ruthless Aggression Era and ending the Attitude era. Austin vs Rock at Wrestlemania 19 was in the Ruthless Aggression Era but was a final page written for the Attitude era in my opinion. That's how I see it.

I’m binging the era right now and I’m planning on stopping at Mania 19. I feel like the era starts sometime after Mania 13 (I started my binge at Summerslam ‘97) and ends at Survivor Series ‘01. Where the WWF beats (bootleg) WCW for one last time. I don’t disagree with your comment though, X8 seems like a good stopping point too.
