Spawn was preceded earlier in the year by Steel (1997), which was preceded by Blankman (1994) which was preceded by Meteor Man (1993). If you are talking about the comics then Black Panther was the first black superhero, originally appearing in 1964 where Blade didn't appear until 1973. If you want to go into comic strips then the first was Lothar in 1934. I think in terms of darkness in comic book movies, The Crow could also be credited. But The Crow wasn’t a Marvel creation. The casting of Wesley Snipes was a great choice. Snipes was building up his action movie credentials after New Jack City, Passenger 57, Rising Sun and others before becoming Blade. I have read about the early attempts to bring The Black Panther to the screen. I remember John Singleton was going to direct it. A supervisor at my job at the time said that he was glad that Blade was doing poorly at the box office. I told him that it was doing very well. His reasoning was that he hated horror movies. I told him that Blade was the good guy protecting humanity from the undead. It didn’t change his mind. No use beating a dead horse in that case. In one of the deleted scenes, Deacon Frost, now imbued with the power of the vampire god La Magra, becomes this huge blood red tornado. Frost occasionally sticks his head out to taunt Blade. It looked so silly. I would’ve loved to see Blade go up against Morbius. That would’ve been cool( he and Morbius fought in the Spider-Man cartoon in the 90’s). Blade 2 was the best in the trilogy hands down. Wesley Snipes should be in the reboot with Mahershalla Ali as either Whistler or Blade’s father(if the reboot follows the comic book origin).

A major thing a lot of people don't realize is that the Blade of the comics was almost a completely different character from the one in the film. He wasn't a half-human, half-vampire hybrid. He was a human being who had immunity to vampirism owing to his prostitute mother being killed by Deacon Frost as she gave birth to him. He couldn't be turned into a vampire and he couldn't be hypnotized by their gaze, but he didn't have any special powers. He got by on skills, smarts, ruthlessness and to some extent, hatred. He also had a totally different personality--in the vein of many Marvel heroes, he spoke in very informal manner, referring to Dracula, for example, as "Big Daddy Fangs."

One of the few films I saw in the cinemas more than once and have it on multiple formats. The refit made for a much better paced and tighter film. Score was amazing and just as brutal as the action scenes. Agree with you whole heartedly mate. :-)

@Leggs McFadden: There's a deleted scene from the film in which Karen Jensen asks Deacon Frost that question, and he shows her a closet full of humans being harvested. The beginning of the film with Heatseeking Dennis and vampire Traci Lords also shows a snippet of harvested humans, but not in much detail. It's mostly shown in a quick and in a "something's not quite right about this place" kind of way.

Hey Minty, starting with the #10 count down would have been nice to state that Blade was not originally a half breed. That was introduced in the movie, in the comics he was just a mortal with inhanced strength.
@KasumiKenshirou2 жыл бұрын
That actually originated in the 1990s Spider-Man cartoon, as did the concept of the "Spider-verse" (although not by that name).
@markharrington89884 жыл бұрын
I'd like to see the movie where Morbius is in it. I think he would have added to it as he was also an undead character that didn't give in to his undead lusts. He would have been a good mirror/friend/foil to Blade. Also be really good to see him in the new Marvel universe making his contribution, especially if they made him one of the snapped-and-returned characters. Not too much of a stretch, as we saw so many characters in the fight scene/s just before Iron Man's snap.

@@yukikodavila4907 It's okay about once every 5 years for me and mostly because of nostalgia. I was between 12-14 when it came out and had been a comic book nerd since I was 8. We would take ANY comic book based movie at that time. Have you seen the 1978-79 made for tv Spider-man, Captain America, or Dr. Strange tv show/movies? Now those are horrible and we ate them up as kids. The Incredible Hulk and Wonder Woman are about the only exception's from that '70's-80's movie/tv shows.
