Good to know that on those long flights, the crew has a place to rest without it being the jump seat. Interesting about the helping with luggage thing, as I've seen many FA's do just that. As someone who always sits in an aisle seat, I try to help those around me with their stuff, both to get them to their seat and to protect my head from getting bonked.

Thank you for bringing to light this unique profession! The flight crews don't get nearly enough appreciation for what they put up with. I always bring a little gift of chocolates or wrapped snacks for the FA's and pilots/flight deck crew. I hope it's appropriate.

First of all, they won't eat it, they would throw it in the garbage, in case of poisoning or whatever the case might be, they wouldn't take the chance, even though your gesture is very kind.

Thank you for publishing this. Cabin crew will also go through a "refresher" course and exam at least once a year, flight probably every six months, depending on the airline.

Back in the late 1990’s, I was flying on American Airlines MD80. This has 3 sears on the right and 2 seats on the left side of the plane. I was one of the last to board as I was flying standby. There was a very large gentleman sitting in the aisle seat under the overhead bin I was trying to place my rollerboard. His shoulders were into the aisle. As I was lifting my bag and trying to lean over him without leaning on him, my bag slipped and hit him in the head. I had lifted that same bag many times, it wasn’t too heavy. However trying to reach over this large man without touching him put me at a bad angle. After that happened, he leaned away from the aisle and I placed my bag no problem.

1. It's not illegal for the trolley dollies and the passengers to join the Mile High Club in the airplane bathroom. 2. Some U.S. carriers have Air Marshall on board the airplane to prevent anything like the 911 hijack situation.

I wouldn't want to lift 200+ suitcases overhead either! Weight is not checked for carryon suitcases. Some of those probably weigh a lot more than they should.

My sister (who used to fly for United Airlines) tells of great stories of basically being able to travel the world for "free" while she was a pilot. Of course there were some downsides to this too, as she said sometimes you do end up in undesirable locations (not necessarily bad, but places that perhaps don't have a lot to do, or are just "boring") for a few days, but on the flipside, has gotten to fly to some other areas too like France and various places in Europe, and in some cases (while not being paid while off) were able to sightsee, while someone else (the airline) was paying for the hotel and transportation.

New Zealand airways ECONOMY has a couple of "sky-couch" options on long-haul flights. Either the option to rent a flat-bed for 4 hours in an area similar to crew rest areas, or you buy a whole row of 3 seats. There is some fluff to make it into a bed. PPE [seat-belts are supplied]. More than economy but usually cheaper than Premium Economy or Business class. So if you can forego the $250 bottle of wine and a posh meal, and just want some good rest, then ECON sky-couch is for you. Limited spaces though. So book your flight soon after you are born. If you are a nervous flier, or simply love aircraft stuff, "Dutch Pilot Girl", Mentour Pilot" and "74-gear" are not only excellent U-tube creators, but genuine highly experience commercial pilots.

Great video! I truly appreciate the flight attendants on my many flights! And I let them know by referring to them specifically by name and thanking them personally. I also let the senior flight attendant know how much I appreciated those specific flight attendants.

I remember that my flight with British Airways to London Heathrow was delayed. After boarding the plane and closing the door, we had a delay and the stewardesses gave us a bottle of water. There were some passengers who had a connecting flight at LHR and they were asked to have a seat in Club Europe since they were able to leave the plane faster.

That is now starting to change. The change beginning with Delta Airlines. There's been three sorts of pay with flight attendants since the 1960s when I was an Airline employee. There is gate-to-gate pay, which is when the airplane pulls away from the gate. There is base pay rather your work or not, and that truly is only during the first couple of months of employment. You have to be ready and adhere to the drinking rules in case you're called up. Believe me the base pay is not enough to live on. The 3rd pay is RON pay. RON stands for remain overnight. This is when due too either circumstances out of their control, or to flight hours the airline pays a very small stiping for the number of hours you are away from your home base, but again only if it's under very strict circumstances.

What about those agents that are ticketing and then you see them on the planes too? That some kind of flat base pay?

Nobody ever tells me to put my phone away during takeoff and landing. I always have it out, taking pictures. The attendents never say anything to me about it. What they do tell me to do is put it in airplane mode, not just during takeoff and landing, but during the entire flight. Your bit about takeoffs and landings doesn't explain that.

One of which is that---each moment in flight communicates terrible visions to pilots---only a thing layer of air exists between the contraption charged them to manage---separates theirs as well as everyone's progress from assuming dots of hapless heaps of sorrow on earth's surface? ---and for that matter, a constant wish---grasses suitably good for sustainance were greener on some other side ---or, at least---that some timely legislation would / had compel(led) standardization of Thomas Edison's 'gravity suspenders' in airplanes --- Indeed, they know the insecurity of said---thin layer of air to be self evident ---for each close shave---it is well documented after transpiration---sends each---to the very last of them---straight onto retirement, for--- it isn't a reality they wish to continue to grapple with---

I understand why phones aren’t allowed during take off and landing. But why can’t you make calls while going through immigration and customs? In my case, I bring back spices from Thailand for my Thai wife and it would be a lot easier to be talking with her while the customs officer is asking what is this spice, just before they toss it. I’m going back next month and will do a zoom call with her to label each item individually in English and label each item for whether it should go in checked luggage or carryon.
