My first trip to Masters a few weeks ago. My observation: - No birds. Bird sounds, never saw a bird. - Pay phones by gift shop. - It seemed like every patron leaving first thing in the morning had gnomes. They only have x number per day, then they’re gone. - Free Masters photo in front of clubhouse. - Not a pinecone on the ground. None. - Bathroom has an attendant directing you to the #1 area or to the #2. Very clean, very efficient. Heard women have more than men, no wait. - The colors were spectacular. It doesn’t look real. - TV does not accurately depict how steep and hilly the course is. - Didn’t see a brown spot or a blade of grass out of place. - Without question the most polite attendees, excuse me, Patrons, I’ve ever seen at any event. That’s my two-cents. Not a bad drive in from Athens.

I had the pleasure of playing the course with my Battalion Commander when I was at cadet training at Fort Benning. The Battalion Commander was in charge of an aviation unit (Blackhawks) and he flew me, and two other cadets to August and landed at a small airfield. He had a car there and we drove to the course. He was a member (as was his father) and he paid for everything we needed to play, rental clubs, balls, everything. The greatest day of my life. When I was a Major on active duty, I got assigned to Fort Gordon in Augusta and my supervisor's son worked at Augusts National and all 4 years he got me into the first two days of the Master's and I loved it. I never got in to see Saturday or Sunday but I prefer to see it on TV anyway. I have autographs from many players from my time living in Augusta.

Some other things I’ve noticed just from watching from home are there are no banners or huge promotions for brands other than the masters. I've been to the Ryder Cup and the US Open before and once to The Masters and I'll tell you it doesn't even compare. The Masters is in a class all it's own! The people are very friendly and the place is just incredible. The thing that shocked me the most was the food. You buy sandwiches made with real bread and wrapped in green wax paper and not only are they good they are cheap. What surprised me the most about the course is how hilly it really is. You don't see that on TV. We were there on Wednesday when they had the par 3 tournament and that was really fun. You can get closer to the players and they are relaxed and just having fun. Saw Fuzzy Zoeller bet a kid 20 bucks he couldn't hit the green and the kid put it right near the pin! He paid the kid and signed a glove for him.

Another lowkey thing you wont see is paid parking. Augusta National bought a whole bunch of land around the property and constructed tunnels under the roads to funnel people in just for the patrons and didnt charge a dime. I used to work out there as a contractor and would always spend tournament week behind the scenes supporting some of the systems. Your comments on the underground cabling infrastructure don't even scratch the surface. The amount of permanent fiber at that place is nuts. It all runs back to the TV Pad (where all of the broadcast trucks live during the week) which is also a permanent facility. Think about the press building, merchandise building, the tournament driving range and all of the broadcast facilities (like where you see the Golf Channel guys on TV each day) are all permanent facilities that get used approx. 10 days a year. There are also a few corporate hospitality houses hidden around the property --> did you see the little paths guarded by security where random patrons would come/go into the bushes? Its even more amazing/crazy behind the scenes than what you experience as a patron. Even UPS only sends new trucks that have been recently washed and waxed...it's perfection through and through.

Never see puddles. Maybe every course has SubAir systems under the whole course, but we kept hearing a sucking sound as we walked along the fairways. We had been delayed in entering because a severe thunderstorm had come through about 6 am. We were told the opening was delayed until 9 am so they could get all the downed limbs and pine needles off the course. This was a Tuesday practice day. No puddles, no pine needles, every blade of grass was perfect.

1:20 ...this reminds me of when I was deployed in the military. When I first arrived, the guy I was replacing drove up to meet me. Rattled off a bunch of stuff and said see you at such and such place, then drove off. As he was driving away, I realized I had no clue what day, time or where I was going to meet this guy again- and I had no way of contacting him since I hadn't been issued a cellphone or vehicle yet. Luckily for me, he was intelligent enough to figure this out when I didn't show up where I was supposed to. So he came back to the "tent city" where he left me. And I was sitting there ready to go. It reminded me of growing up in the 90's- before everyone had cellphones. You had to take people at their word- and in a way, people were more responsible out of necessity.

Media technical personnel CAN have their cel phones while on Property. Emergencies happen during coverage and the technician may not be near where the problem is. They are inspected and checked to be sure that ALL alarms, warnings, notifications are OFF. Only vibrate is okay. Even if the ringer is off, Your calendar notifications will sound. The phones are then marked so as to let Security know that the person is allowed to have it. The Cables were put underground in the early 80's... I know- I did some of the routing layouts for CBS. At least the cables for the Front nine when full course coverage was starting to come to TV.

With the cell phones do you check them in somewhere or do you just leave at home? I like the idea of no phones for a day but I would be able to get ahold of my buddies right after if needed to if we got separated and couldn’t find each other.

@@TigerTigerWoodsYall ok, that’s what I figured but couldn’t find any real answers haha. Thanks a ton! Haha that’s crazy about the parking lot, I was curious about what the parking situation must be like, didn’t figure it be that smooth and nice.

The range is only used tournament week. All plates and napkins are green so if they are on the grass they do not stand out.

Great list, but I did see sand on the greens, lots of sand, Lowry had to brush some out of the way using his hand on Saturday,

@@TigerTigerWoodsYallIt was Hunter. He says it tastes like Parmesan. That was a straw, not a brush. Hear they pay him a pretty penny. Tried to run with the story but the big guy says it ain't true. Says If I don't step back, I'm not black. Hunter was last seen walking away from the course. Had an onion sack half full of dead squirrels slung over his back. Hopes to cash in on them so he can get his computer out of the shop. Was offering 5 authentic Masters' squirrels for a lift to Delaware. Boys got a real knack for making deals. Smart money says that he and his computer will cross paths again someday.

Where do most players stay while at the masters? Personal homes. I live in Tulsa area, several senior golfing friends have listed their homes around Southern Hills.

The entire town of residents rent their homes...it's big business and the residents just up and leave for the week.

NO Trash on the ground. No cups. No Green baggies the sandwhiches come in, nothing. I walked around for hours one Thursday trying to find one piece of trash just to prove a point and couldn't. It's the most amazing thing ever, and btw the guys wearing the Yellow "Trash" hats will not sell them to you. I've offered way more than I'm willing to admit and been turned down several times. Love Augusta, Greatest place on Earth!!!

This year was crazy at The Masters. They honored all 2020 and 2021 tickets because of the Rona. It was a cool thing to experience. $$$$$$
