I went to Paris with friends in 2007. One wanted a specific Dior bag she'd spotted in Vogue, so off to a Dior boutique we went. She showed the magazine page and asked for the bag; what happened next still amazes me. Salesclerks look at each other, and call over the department head. She spent several minutes questioning my friend about what her daily routine was, what she normally carried in her bag, what the weather was like where we lived, and what colors she normally wore. Department head then sends off salesclerks who return with the bag my friend wanted and two others, then spends about 20 minutes explaining why one of the other bags would be best for her. Turns out it cost less too. Instead of focusing on the sale, she focused on the customer and taught us to determine what looked and worked best for us. I became a Dior fan that day.

I find luxury bags utterly distasteful... it robs you of individuality and reduces you to nothing but advertisement for the tacky brand and products. Also extremely overpriced for what it is. You don't buy prestige and status anyway. You earn it by treating sentient beings well. If someone is having a luxury bag I run in the opposite direction. Owning one is a good sign that the person lacks intelligence and critical thinking skills.
@cardett754 жыл бұрын
@@lepetitchat123 you sound suicidal, those luxury bag are not different than luxury watches for men, they are signs of accomplishment and daily reminder of your personal success, the psychological effect is very powerful, you have no idea and they are also lifetime item since they are made to withstand the test of time not only in their build quality but also in their design itself. this has nothing to do with intelligence or critical thinking but all to do with emotion and intrinsic value of a given thing

For me personally I do not like to buy and handbag or any luxury item for that matter that clearly has the identifying logo on it. For example I prefer the classic version of the Chanel flap because it doesn't have the inverted C's logo. For me any kind of logo or large monogram seems to cheapen the look of it in my eyes. My opinion stretches especially for branded T-shirts like the Gucci logo styles that seem to have spread these days. A piece with no obvious or large logo is much more sophisticated and classic to me.
@chajang72925 жыл бұрын
I cannot agree more. I was tAlkig to a friend who loves LV and recently got a wallet. There was honestly no worthwhile design element, the leather was just indented with the monogram all over... That's it. I spent the longest time on looking for a Longchamp backpack, and I settled for one that had the smallest Longchamp title on it,and there was no logo on the front of the back (part of the foulonné line, so it doesn't even have the iconic flap, and the zippers don't even have logos lol. I purely got it for its quality, and if someone really wanted to know where it's from, they'd have to get super close, hah). Also, my first lux wallet was from Valentino which I respect because people can recognize it from a design element itself (the rock studs), rather than a logo or the name spelt largely. I am interested in getting a Celine or Hermes product because it also shares that idea. But Hermes is just a dream right now haha. Céline is classy, and very wearable for work.

I 100% Agree. I live in NYC so you see Gucci and LV Never-full EVERYWHERE!! People like what they like, but I want a designer piece for the quality rather than the "Showiness" of it. Plus if it's just about a logo a bunch of people will just go to Canal St. for fakes

Man, I thought I was the only one. I absolutely hate bags that have a visible logo, ESPECIALLY Louis Vuitton, these ones look so cheap and tacky to me, I don't get how anyone wants to use them. And inverted C's sadly spoil it for me too. Why would anyone want to be a walking billboard?

They aren’t. I have a long post somewhere where I show why they are not. Even if you hold a birkin and wait for it to appreciate in value, the returns are horrible with the exception of incredibly rare pieces. They are illiquid, depreciating assets that don’t even pay income. Bags are largely sunk costs and if you don’t believe me, check the second had market for Hermes. Celine bags even have worse resale value. You’d need to buy a crocodile or ostrich limited edition birkin and hold it without wearing it to even gain some form of return and if you legitimately take in the taxes, sales costs, etc. You will rarely find a bag that is an investment. The word “investment” in terms of bags is misleading garbage.

I always look for a bag that: 1. matches with my wardrobe 2. has a classic, masculine, timeless design 3. is weather-proof and strong Basically, I want something that lasts because, after all, it's something I use to put my stuff in. Extra points if it gets better with age. My ultimate goal is to find "one bag to rule them all" , but that seems far-fetched so I'll stick with my current selection 😂

I like watching Justine’s videos in spite of being only marginally interested in fashion. She’s fun, and some of the ideas are useful. I can’t imagine ever spending more than $125 for a bag myself, and generally spend much less. I like my bag to be VERY sturdy, have secure closures, be made of leather or top-quality heavy canvas, and be comfortable when worn cross-body. And they must to be able to be used as a pillow in a pinch, when I am stuck somewhere for hours and end up laying down on the floor to rest (think airports & missed connections).

Hey, great vídeo!!! About your question, probably my biggest complain is the strap not being comfortable in the shoulder and not distribute the height. Especially in big bags. Always makes me conscious on how much height I put inside. Makes me wear more backpacks then I would like.

The Antigona is the only one I don't have in my closet. Not sure if it will ever join the others, but I am gladly surprised that you gave the history behind the pieces, it's so important to people that appreciate those bags to know a bit more about them. :) Hermès Kellys are my favorites.

I am retired and have a casual lifestyle. My favorite handbags are Hobo because of the soft leather and the details such as pockets and card slots. Luxury bags have never been for me, but, your presentation was interesting and insightful. Thank you.

One of the biggest essentials for me is that it needs to have enough of a drop to comfortably go over my shoulder. Especially with a winter jacket (Canada in the winter type).

My favorite handbag seems to be a tote. The prices range from $20 to $295, which was my limit. The bag has to hold my mail, an e-reader, a purse organizer with compartments for this and that, a comb, wallet, water, pepper spray and keys.

I just bought a Coach Cassie 19 and I love it! The 3 differentiere straks makes it so versatile and even though it is quite small it has enough space for my purse, keys, notebook, pen, two phones etc. ❤️👌

Soft but sturdy leather, structured without being too boxy or stiff, enough pockets inside to keep me organized, lighter weight and in a few sizes to accommodate all shapes and sizes of person. Variety of color is nice but the classic neutrals are always a good choice. Great video. Thank you.

I love the bags that Offer key leash or a place to access your keys with ease from the outside. When it does not have a loop for the leash it it has a fabric lining I sues a safety pin to attach my leash or the zipper since they usually have a whole in it

An ideal everyday handbag would stand on its own (not slouch), hold the width of at least two books so that it can fit items beyond just phone, keys and wallet.. and not get dirty on the outside so easily. What an informative video. Thanks for the history lesson

Dear Justine, what a nice video! I do perfectly agree with you regarding the 2 forever beautiful Hermés bags, the Chanel 2.55 and the Givenchy Antigona! It's a mystery for me as well why this bag has not the huge success that for example the Louis Vuitton (which I really can't stand anymore...) has! The shape is nearly perfect and the leather/colours fantastic! Anyway: I was lucky and could borrow (many years ago) two of those marvelous bags from my mother (Hermés Birkin and Chanel). Unfortunately thiefs came in overnight and...bags went with them...like many other things. Anyway I think it's important to use a nice and elegant style, even without designer bags. By the way: the Longchamp is very nice, affordable and ideal for travelling. Best regards from Rome/Italy

Sadly I can’t even afford them secondhand. But on a good note I did work for Chanel in their cosmetics fragrance divsion for five years and received earrings and a small clutch. Which I adore but I’ve rarely use because it’s really too small for anything more than a lipstick and my cell phone. thank you for all this information.

I'm not a fan of how any of these handbags look. I think I'm sticking with my Patricia Nash bags. Love her designs and they're a bit more in my budget. 👍 Thanks Justine so much for your videos. You're so pleasant to watch and listen to and I love your advice on simple chic; Parisian style and capsule wardrobes. Really soaking up the advice. To answer your question, I'm a minimalist and love a smaller cross body that fits my cell phone , some cards, cash and a few small things like lipstick. I have the Patricia Nash, Torri Tooled leather crossbody in black and it's been my absolute favorite.

Since I am petite I find large bags and fashion styles overwhelm my body frame if they are too big. So, I keep bags sizes to medium (?) size and fashion more tailored. Love your videos and information.Thank you !

I love medium crossbody style bags, my favorite is the Make It Mine Byrdie from Kate Spade. It has a flap that can be changed for a new look and they seem to bring new designs with every collection . I also appreciate that buying the new flaps is more friendly to the environment and the pocked then buying new bags . At the moment i have 5 flaps and a new one is already on the way to me :)

The holy grail of bags for me it would be definitely a kelly, probably in black, because I can't imagine anything more timeless than that and besides its such an elegant bag. When I buy a bag I want it to be light, that the straps are comfortable. It's also great if it has at least one external pocket. I also like that the bag is not extremely big so it is not annoying to carry it around public transport or to put it in front of me when I eat at places where I can't have an extra chair for it.

When I purchase a handbag, I am looking for several things: color, size and design. It has to wear with my clothing and hold what I normally take with me. I do not buy for investment at all. When I am through with a purse I donate it to a charity. it doesn’t ever come down to cost. I purchase what suits me and if it is very expensive I will pass it by. I would love to be able to purchase an expensive bag, but I would not spend my money on a huge purchase of a handbag ever. There are too many other things more important to me than carrying around a 20 thousand pound handbag to show the world how rich I am. Love all of your videos. You are one of my favorite you tubers.

The Prada backpack and the Givenchy Antigona are what ultimately led me to the Prada Tessuto nylon totes and the Givenchy canvas shopping totes. My investment of choice is a basic, utilitarian designer tote that I can throw all my belongings into for years to come. I'm also currently on the hunt for a timeless overnight bag for work.

Great video ❤️ I invest only in Italian brand bags (Cromia, Patrizia Pepe...) because of their quality. The price ranges from 200-500 € and I would never pay more than that for a bag because when I did invest more, the quality wasn’t any better.
@lelexoxo3035 жыл бұрын
I completely agree. What good does it do me to spend thousands on a bag that doesn't hold up better than one in a much lower price range? I personally am not willing to pay for a name, no matter whether it's Chanel or Hermès.

I'm always on the lookout for bags that can convert between a handbag/shoulder bag/crossbody and backpack. I love backpack purses for their comfort and utility, but sometimes they can kind of look juvenile (so being convertible makes for a more functional, but also aesthetically-pleasing product). I'd love for the inner lining to be light-colored so that you can spot things within more easily. And because leather generally ages beautifully it is my preferred material. Bonus if it can hold my 13-inch laptop (along with all my everyday essentials)! Great video!
