Recent realization: Future's verse on "Kings Dead" is probably the highlight of the song. Going off the hype of Jay rock, the verse is memorable to anyone who hears it. First listen it is childish at best, but it sticks. I don’t care about if someone else enjoys music or not, but arguing that Damn is a collection of loose ideas isn’t you disliking the music, it is you not understanding the music. It is extremely focused on the duality of wickedness vs weakness. Playboi Carti’s “artfulness” comes from the noisiness and unorthodox song structures. Tracks like RIP, Lean 4 Real, and Fell In Luv have overwhelming bass, super heavy and engulfing melodies, and above all just constant ad-libs. Its a record a lot like Lil Ugly Mane’s Mista Thug Isolation, full of so many different layers and details in the sounds and phrasal structure
