Huey Lewis and The News Their early work was a little too new wave for my tastes, but when Sports came out in '83, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far more bitter, cynical sense of humor. In '87, Huey released , Fore, their most accomplished album. I think their undisputed masterpiece is "Hip to be Square", a song so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity, and the importance of trends, it's also a personal statement about the band itself.

He has no personnality in his writing or in his performance. His only personnality is in his sound, which isn’t done by him cus on Rodeo he almost doesn’t produce anymore. First listened to Hospice in early high school, and even though my tastes in conceptual music have definitely matured over the past several years , I still love that album to death. The washed out lo-fi quality is pretty organic and pretty much every single song adds up to a haunting and uneasy atmosphere. The story isn’t a nail biter, but Hospice’s ability to make you party to the main character’s pain and fear is still something I’ve yet to find in many other concept albums as of late.
@demifolk89405 жыл бұрын
Rey Shah I agree. I don’t think the album relies too much on emotion or whatever the fuck melon said. Being in a emotionally abusive relationship is horrific and Hospice captures that horror, that absolute low point, so well. I’ve yet to find another album to capture it as well. Wake is the only song to date that has made me cry. Heavily disagree that the album is overrated, not as many people as he thinks have listened to the album. I don’t understand how melon rates shit. He gave A Crow Looked at Me a 10, and cites it as amazing. Despite it relying on tearjerker moments and sadness throughout the album. Hospice is the same, the only difference is that its not an emotion that melon is familiar with. Thats the only thing I can think of. I guess its his opinion but idk I’m mostly irked that he called Hospice overrated but Crow Looked at Me isn’t somehow (love both albums btw). He could not like Hospice and thats fine but calling it overrated doesn’t make sense to me.
@GanzoHasashi19115 жыл бұрын
Literally took a listen to it out of curiosity after seeing it was the one argument he agreed with. I loved the album through and through, it’s an experience that comes off as an audio novel with a melancholy turned redemption theme

demifolk I heard only a bit of “A Crow Looked at Me” but so far I dont see how it relies much on its sadness. It seems like a pretty thought provoking album on the topic of death. And acts as a journal of Phil’s thoughts and emotions during a greiving process, and what he is thinking of now in seperate entries.

Saying an album "relies too much on emotion" is like saying "that book relies too much on words." That's the fucking point of the art form my dude. Also was just out of high school when Hospice came out and immediately fell in love. Still consider it one of the best records ever made.

Part of what was great about The Doors s/t and L.A. Woman was the looseness. By the time The Soft Parade was being recorded, the band felt they lost that loose spontaneous synergy the band had in their recordings. While Strange Days onward had amazing compositions that at times blow these records out of the water, it was a nice return by time of L.A. Woman, and their resurgence in record sales from it, as well as the opinions of the band reflect that.

Is this it? Is one of the greatest rock albums all time had a huge impact on the rock scene just as much as other classic albums did
@derekwadas84895 жыл бұрын
Robert Shrimppp I mean, for the context the time it did. But it is not as revolutionary as people make it out to be. People were acting like The Strokes brought a new style of music to the forefront/mainstream. But all they really did was copy and paste the garage rock sound of the 60s (which was pretty popular back than) into their songs and albums. I’m not trying to diss on The Strokes ‘cause I’m quite a fan of their stuff, but if we’re gonna be realistic we have to dig deep into the information.

@@derekwadas8489 they didn't copy paste anything they took inspiration and made the sound their own. the velvet underground don't sound like the strokes and neither do television, people are reaching when they say they do

"Is This It?" is one of my favorite albums, constantly on rotation, but I see the tweet's critique of it. I think that all of the songs are incredible, but there isn't enough variety for the album to be considered greater than the sum of its parts.

@@spencer1531 idk that's your opinion and i definitely respect it but imo every song has a special thing in it that sets it apart from the other, and i just can't find an album quite like it no matter how many copy cats there are so it's fair to say it could be considered as one of the greatest rock albums. the fact interpol and the strokes started around the same time but the strokes are treated as a superior band also shows that in time it might get more appreciation imo

That hot take on Low End Theory and by proxy Tribe Called Quest actually fucked me up. I didn't expect to have that violent of a reaction to some random dude saying that about my boys! Damn.
