"Make believe" games are part of the way we try on identities. When you do it without an audience, and when you persist in doing "the hard parts" when it isn't fun, THEN you move from being just the "Trickster" ) boy psychology) to becoming the "Magician" (adult psychology). See Robert Moore and Doug Gillette, KING, WARRIOR, MAGICIAN, LOVER. Be aware that in the early 80's, in many circles men carefully avoided interpreting women's psychodynamics, but the PRINCIPLES apply for women (Queen, Amazon, Magician, Lover).

Theurgy is to art appreciation as Thaumaturgy is to mechanical engineering. Theurgy is to love-making as Thaumaturgy is to manipulative seduction. Theurgy is to "I/Thou" relationships as Thaumaturgy is to "I/it" relationships. The I/it relationship ascribes no inherent value in itself to the object being controlled. It is a tool, a possession. The "it" is an INSTRUMENTAL GOOD. The I/Thou relationship assumes that both parties are ends in themselves. They may choose to be in a mutually beneficial relationship, as mycorhyzal fungi are with their respective host plants. Be aware that we become like our friends, partners, and deities, spirits, etc. So choose wisely. If you traffic with beings to control or harm others, YOU YOURSELF will quickly become their victims. Folklore of many nations carries this warning; it is the Past telling it's hard-won wisdom to the Future.

We DO TEND TO BECOME LIKE THE PEOPLE WE ASSOCIATE WITH. However, that also happens on KZbin. Humans NEED COMMUNITY, and isolation is a grave risk to mental and physical health. Rather than discourage F2F discussions with people who share similar interests, why not recommend ways to hone the ability to judge character? Ask what people really want to get/be in life. Anyone who wants to do "love magic" is willing to use people sexually. Ironically it often ends with becoming disgusted with your contest, but unable to escape him/her. LOVE cannot be compelled. If someone in the group seeks power over others, YOU will soon be his/her next victim. Encouraging fearfulness as a means to increase group solidarity is another indication of a cult, and very common among Christian Nationalists, Pentacostals, and lots of other groups who insist that THEIRS is the only "1 true way."

I highly agree. I was invited to a ceremony for the new moon some years back. I was than Informed “don’t talk to anyone about anything just observe it” All it was. One guy with his wife in ceremonial garb sitting in a throne and lighting the campfire. I can do that at home. Without the toxic atmosphere. I told her that she should get out of it and use her own energy for her. This being taken as “he wants to separate myself from the coven”. No she could have still gone. I was further along in my own occult studies than this was so I don’t need to join a group that was obsessed with controlling the sheep that were following.

n00b question, but can you point me in the right direction of what is ACTUALLY meant by 'the Great Work'. I've heard that term before, but it seems like it has a bunch of different definitions, or is just about trying to turn base metals into gold using some sort of philosopher stone (which I gather is coded language for something else). But for real, this is one that i feel is pretty important, but I don't have understanding about this yet

I so appreciate #4. My magickal practice has taken a couple of turns. I started with the LBRP and quit tobacco within days (I wasn't even trying to, I just decided to one day and it stuck). Then I did a bunch of GoM rituals and got burnt out. So I returned to just the books for a bit (a bit longer than I would have liked) and am now just preparing to work through Son of Chicken Qabalah. For as good advice as it is, I dont regret ignoring "Don't try to do too many rituals to begin with". I don't recommend ignoring it but if my path starts with me overdoing it and getting to experience just how effective magick can be, then taking a break before staring in earnest, I'm ok with that.

My tip would be, if I may say so, to work first on yourself before starting magic. That is, you need a certain maturity, honesty and openness to understand it well and blind spots (which we all have) can make things very complicated. We are never perfect of course, but an unstable, narcissistic, insecure person can do a lot of damage. But that too, is part of the whole. I want to thank you for these great tips. You always explain so well and with honesty. I find your work very supporting and I find you a very inspiring person. Thank you so much and all the very best for the end of the year and the next to come.

Excellent and affirming suggestions. Regarding when to begin formal practice, I sometimes liken certain operations to performing a necessary surgery on yourself. You would want sufficient time to review and understand texts and diagrams, recognize outcomes and complications, have appropriate privacy space, and tools, and to integrate the results. Establishing these conditions is not entirely procrastination, much less cowardice. For me, the maxim "know thyself" is of paramount importance.

I started in an order, but my development eventually took me down a solitary path. While both have merit, as explained so well under item eight, what helped me is losing the notion that you're somehow locked in to whatever path you choose. Allow yourself the grace to adjust as you gain experience. If you encounter an expiration date along a certain path of learning, heed it and change course.

After 30 years of studying and practicing, i am currently (again) at a point where i think that magick, to me, means to discover the true meaning of things - discover the true will which will guide me on a path where there is no need for desiring change, because everything just falls into place. Like a puzzle coming together by itself. And strangely enough.. sometimes i have the shizophrenic feeling that on the one hand searching for the truth pushes you further away from it - But on the other hand, even *that* is a part of the whole. Because every action, every experience, every thought - is an expression of the one true will - from which we cannot be separated in the first place.

My friend, this video is such a valuable wealth of information that I'm at a loss for words on how much I appreciate it. Granted, almost all of this is stuff I'm already familiar with - I've been an armchair magician for quite a while now - but the way you phrase it puts it in a new light with certain clarity, and it helps me understand stuff I basically found out myself after stumbling around in the dark for years. Good magical content like this has been hard for me to find, as much as I hate to admit it, so I am truly grateful for something like this.

Great tips like always! The one that stood out the most for me is #5. You do not need to give up your religion to practice magick! Your practice should deepen your devotion to your religion, not be in conflict with it. I wish I had known this earlier myself. I was hesitant to even learn about magick or the occult because I thought it was all explicitly anti-Christian/anti-religious. I was very, very wrong. In fact, there is a long and rich tradition of explicitly Christian magick and my magick practice reinvigorated my religious life and I believe the same is true for a lot of people.

My advice is to take any project seriously if you want to acomplish something. If you want a good body, you need to attend gym regularly on a weekly basis. I suppose Magick needs more dedication, it should be practised every day, forever. I see it as a lifestyle, endless Tao, a dance of Shiva. It's the same formula for everything = put the work into it! Outstanding as always. I especially liked your suggestion to visit a Pentecostal church, especially since interacting to do with anything relating to Christianity seems verboten to many magical practitioners, who consider themselves so far above all that (imho, the ideal to Love God.. whatever your concept may be... and Love One Another is basically a good way for humans to live... and though my aspirations are more mystical than magical, I imagine that doing so could help anyone avoid so many of the magical and occultic traps and dead ends that are out there).

I started practicing solitary low magic in this context at age 14 in the 90s, and while I definitely learned some hard lessons (usually about getting just what you ask for), it's a more forgiving and affirming paradigm for someone in early learning stages .

Concerning #4.. Some years ago, I was taking a look into the whole occultism and magic thing. Wasn't too keen on researching much as I thought it was all auto-suggestion, because of my knowledge of psychology and especially hypnosis. So I did what any sane man would do in that position, I immediately jumped into practice. I performed a mock ritual, which I made up on the spot, and asked for very specific things, which I couldn't fool myself into thinking it came to me when I really made it happen myself. So a couple of months went by, nothing happened, and I had decided that it was all BS and I was a genius for shittesting a mystery in a day. Lo and behold, I get confirmation that the thing I asked for was weeks in the making. Things kept getting stranger and stranger until I decided to banish all influences surrounding me. Nowadays, I'm taking things really slow, just enjoying every bit of knowledge I can gather here and there before I get into more serious practice. So, just a little caution is what I'd suggest to anyone not wanting to live on the edge of their seat.

I think you bring up a really interesting point and one that constantly comes to mind and always has on my whole journey the last couple decades of spirituality. That words and any other thing that represents a concept mean different things to different people. I remember really realizing that when I got into a conversation with my mother-in-law about dream analysis and how I didn’t believe in dream dictionary‘s because I believe everyone’s meanings will be slightly different. I found this really useful. I find myself getting overwhelmed with all the information, but I have learned that structured learning isnt for me.. Im doing tarot and finding Im pretty good at it.. I am a new practitioner with it, but I have been pretty spot on with my own readings, and the odd one I have done for friends. Ive had many paranormal experiences yet wonder if my head is in the clouds with what I want/expect from magick & the occult.

I knew this through yin and yang or alpha and omega it’s all the same concept. This emotions only is in balance when you master self acceptance and life forced from within of the heart to nurture ego. In fact in my understanding ego is innocent and in alignment with heart can be used for good.

This walk was enjoyable, decade’s would attest we never agree ..even on the simplest of settings. To the dirt merchants we encounter or to the highest Adept.. we must support. Care not the religion , the alignment sought is our practice… faith in your gate no matter it’s key.

Thank you for your service. You may have a special relationship with Neptunus as well, a benign Roman God of springs and rivers. Consider making a shrine to water deities.

I like my magician look lmao nothing wrong with wanting to look the part! Looking and dressing a certain way actually empowered me a lot and helped my development because my reflection reminded me of my progression. Don't base opinions about people on their looks. Appearance is a tool just like any other

For me the magical sense is the knowledge of the environment and magic as such is the manipulation of the environment by applying an intention. From my experience it is unconsciously or automatically that this process happens. It is reflected in how it seems to me that things should be better with a specific order. And the symbolic and ritual sense for me developed after that with the analysis of the past and its interpretation and then the game between past and future through a common notebook using drawings. For this reason it seems more congruent to me to develop the symbols and own philosophy, and then compare and deepen it. Since the source of knowledge is the same and it is more fun and less dangerous in my opinion.

I would recommend the osha-ifa rule as a symbolic foundation. Since contemplete the human action, the interaction between forces and the "spiritual world" Eggun.

Where can I start? I don't know anything? I feel mostly I want to help people but honestly I also feel drawn to a side which people have coined "the dark side". So for clarity of what I mean by this is, my response in most situations is to understand a situation and then see of how I can be of service and also understand my limitations. Then sometimes I feel like i've been taken advantage of and I can bring myself back to just a place of being neutral and understanding that as long as I have done my best, thats all that matters. However for the last 18 months I feel like regardless of way of being (not saying I am a saint at all 🤣) something doesn't seem to add up in my life. I honestly cannot verbally articulate it, but I am becoming more aware of it, the examples are: really struggling with finances even though I work extremely hard, my wife divorcing me, even though I have given 100% of myself under very stressful conditions and been there for her while she was struggling. I dont feel salty about any of it because I feel this is just how life is and better to flow with what comes however, I can't shake this weird sense of almost unatural like deficit that just seems to be on going and seems to be getting worst. Maybe i'm just being paranoid but my gut feels something else. I am not religious, I would say spiritual to a degree, aligned with the Yogic sciences but not seriously. Is there anybody on here that has ever experienced something similar to this? especially around the intuition that something is just not adding up?

Seneca's "Letter to a Student" has been translated many times with varying names. It was written to help an anxious beginner, and was more helpful to me than any other 25 pages I have ever read. It's probably read aloud on KZbin, or ANY liberal arts campus will have it in a collection of Stoic, or classical philosophy textbooks. I have a couple mass paperback editions I got from used book stores.

I would suggest that a dedicated yoga practice is essential for the magic practitioner - it releases trauma, creates more space in the consciousness, quiets and focuses the mind, keeps the physical body healthy and tunes one into the subtle body. It's not easy and can be terrifying when one begins, regarding what is released, and depending on your age just how much work one has to do and the necessary reasons as to why. Not to look cool but to simply access ones own life. Guru figures should be scrutinized heavily - especially some males who through their 'selflessness and generosity' seek to help some students to heal and repair any sexual issues or inhibitions - usually just the young attractive female students. It may take someone new to yoga a bit of a journey in researching and trying the different styles, and also finding a teacher they gel with, which can be one of the most important things.

Very useful - thank you very much for this, I've been feeling a bit lost getting a grounding! I have a quick question related to point (2)- when you say that the person performing the spell should believe in the same theology/cosmology as the person who constructed the spell, does that mean that once you've decided which belief system makes sense to you, you cannot use spells from any other? If not, how are you to "believe" in the cosmological ideas etc behind one spell "temporarily", and then for the next spell believe in different ideas? Thank you
@FoolishFishBooks10 ай бұрын
Chaos magick as this adaptability and "promiscuity of beliefs" at its core. I would say that for all other streams, yes, stepping outside of that stream isn't advised.
