I have been watching you guys for years. I have also been selling electric lift chair recliners since 1983. I think you should give them some serious consideration. They may very well benefit your viewers and family more than you may realize. I am sure they are much safer than putting a recliner up on blocks and risk tipping over backward.

I agree. The chair on the platform made me kind of nervous cause I could just see what would happen if it tipped over accidentally I have a lift chair and love it.

We got my 95 year old father an electric lift chair, they are around $300-$450 on a well known auction website. Good tip about not raising the chair too high because it will cause weakened leg muscles.

Oh my gosh, i literally just bought one of these today, not watched the video yet....watching now.. humm this is an important video. you must be telepathic because I have never bought or thought about chairs sofas till the last 3 days . I have been obsessive . You have answered many questions which I had. Plus I have a cat so thanks for the warning about my cat maybe getting inside. I have concluded on a faux leather 3 seater, but one which comes in two parts . So if both seats are reclined it turns into one large bed structure. I feel that the good people in the shop should watch this video, because they did not seem too happy that I wanted to spend all day in the shop trying out each chair, measuring obsessively, then left saying I would not order because I needed more time. Also I have noticed a head rest is important. My sofa at the moment has a low back like a chesterfield, but in the shop they had some wonderful recliners with taller backs to support the head. The price is horrendous, but I have found a second had one on the Facebook selling page for £75. Hopefully I have bought the right one. Picking it up tomorrow. If anyone has any questions about chairs at the moment it is all really fresh in my mind. I have one more question which I was going to ask you before this video: When a chair is reclined is it good posture to sleep in it, or will we wake up with a bad back? I think you mum must have woke up so uncomfortable that she insisted on moving to her bed? Also young people struggle too, and this is not a joke, if they have been on the booze or anything after a party, sometimes I have seen friends get off the sofa by slipping down onto their knees then on to all fours. There is no shame in crawling through the house.

I have a manual reclining chair and a rare, now turned very aggressive, autoimmune disease that has left me not only unable to kick closed the foot rest, but to even move within the chair to fully recline, much less get out of it or squirm to the front of the seat to position myself to get out. Arms of the chair are over padded, making it difficult to find enough solid frame to push off from. I desperately want a lift chair since I am sometimes alone. Besides price, the big issue is the power goes out here frequently and so few models haver emergency back up batteries. I suppose an after market battery pack? You guys ought to do a video on power lift chairs. Thanks so much for your content. Getting the nose down and feet against near chair base was new and helpful fot me.

All good advise, but from experience I'd add one thing. If you have an electric lift recliner, and the power goes out, and you're in the chair you're stuck! The solution is to add an uninterruptible power supply. They're not expensive, and are available at any store that sells computers.

It's important you get a chair that fixes you. Make sure that you are setting your back flat to the back and that the seat ends up to the back of your knees. They make the chair seats longer for people who are 6 ft. tall and also for people who are wider, the salespeople will help with getting the right size of chair for you.

instead of a pillow or firm foam to elevate, how about duct taping several bags of dry beans together to fit the recliner ? it might take 10 or 15 bags to get 2 inches higher

What would be your advice to a 6' 4" 275# amputee having lost dominant left arm? I am using a 22" manual chair. I have a 26" chair as well but it is way to large. Have you had experience with buckwheat cushions. Any help would really appreciated. Thank you ...

My learning: Don't get a chair with the electronic mechanism built into the side of the chair - get a chair with a remote control. I had right shoulder surgery and couldn't use my recliner to sleep in because the built in control was on the right side of the chair.

Thanks for another great video! The tips in this video would have been super useful in my recent purchase of living room furniture. I wonder what your thoughts are on a straight chair and ottoman combination. Is there an increased stress on lower lumbar? Are recliners better than straight chairs? I use the ottoman since most chairs are too deep for me. In addition to chair height and width, depth should also be an important consideration for shorter people..

My mom bought an electric lift/recliner but it doesn't fit her. She is short so not only do her feet dangle, but when she sits, she can't scoot back far enough. Also the back consists of three pillow sections and the top section pushes her head forward. It is too late to return it. Suggestions for pillows or something else to help this chair fit her better?

I always get a recliner with the long handle for the foot rest. That lifts it up and puts it down. Can you show the best way to get out of a recliner if your leg doesn’t bend correctly. I also had an extra couch cushion that I put in my recliner to raise me up to help get me out. Also what is best to stop my foot from slipping as I rise (the leg that doesn’t bend all the way.

--A couple times I have been well & truly stuck, I moved myself sideways to the couch, put my hands on the floor & feet well apart for a sturdy base, and inched myself over until I was able to lift my butt off the couch. Then you'll be in a sort of runner's crouch and should be able to straighten up (if that's something you can normally do). Even better would be to use a footstool or another chair or something so you don't have to reach down so low. Any way, the basic idea (which I learned in rehab) is stand up in two motions: lean forward, back parallel to the floor, and get your butt up; then straighten up. - - I also suggest bringing your own chair, such as a folding camp chair, that you have tested & know you can get out of. Position it near a couch or heavy piece of furniture so you have something to push yourself up. I also use a wheelchair, and I keep both in my car.
@piratejenny23
@piratejenny23 5 жыл бұрын
PS: the basic idea works for cars, toilets, etc., although hopefully there will be something besides the floor to use for balance! Most people "lead with their head" and try to stand in one motion, like a marionette being pulled up by a string, which requires a lot more strength, balance and coordination. The other method can be inelegant (your butt will be high up in the air) but much easier & safer

My problem is that the back of my couch recliner doesn't come up to a 90* angle (something to consider if shopping), and I have some difficulty sitting up straight after using the reclining feature, because it makes me slide down in the seat. When I just sit in it and lean back, I can straighten up without much effort. But other times I feel like I need a rope or strap or something to get out of my darn couch! Any suggestions? Do any such devices exist? (As I was typing this, it occurred to me that maybe I could push myself back a few inches before putting the recliner in its upright position.)

What can I do or use to modify the armrests? I'm too narrow/thin to use my recliner armrests (guilty of the leaning to one side to use 1 rest in addition to sitting close to that rest). The height of the armrests are good though.
