Can't say it enough how much I enjoy your channel. I learn something useful every time. I'm guilty of chasing my bullets on target, or trying to get them to hit center. I didn't ever put thought into way I try to set my scope to a load I'm testing out. I will definitely be looking into buying a magnitos speed

That chrono is a game changer for sure. I'm glad it is helping you learn stuff a couple more reload videos are scheduled to come out in the next week or so. One of which will really help the newcomer or newish understand the data we are collecting

I have to say I smile every time I watch the first part of your intro. I’m guessing equipment is another video? Don’t buy a cheap digital powder scale and or a beam scale to at least verify. Keep doing what you do, this is good stuff and I’m going to check out that stainless magazine

I have not done one on equipment yet but have one planned. I wanted to get out some info I don't see a ton of in regards to reloading

The variation in bullet lengths lead me to get bullet comparator, which also works with the hornady shoulder bump gauge. Measuring from base to ogive was much more consistent. Thanks for the great info and keep the videos coming.👍

So basically there's no way to have to much information per load. And the differing lots changing results is good info. Q; If I'm zeroed to some decent factory ammo, I shouldn't have to change it for hand load testing? Just note point of impact shift/difference? Then if the developed load meets the intended goal, have different settings for that specific load? Or is it better to just note/know that "pet" load groups at a known different point of impact at set distances?

Compared to hand loaded...Factory ammo is trash. You are better off pulling the heads and pouring the powder out and using the brass.
@traillesstravelled7901 Жыл бұрын
@@sahhull I agree, it's been inconsistent. I was just using it a a baseline/ practice ammo.

@@traillesstravelled7901 you will learn more by hand loading and practicing with your hand loaded ammo. Zero to your hand loads. I posted a comment on my ramblings and findings a few mins ago.

@@sahhullAlso , as I'm starting out, asking me to zero to my hand loading is like asking a to using a kid with a learning permit (driver) as the standard. About 200 9mm, and 350 .223, and am now getting the feel of it. Thanks for sharing your experience. I thought I might be overthinking it before, now I see that testing every variable is valid, document everything.

Good advice to just stop sometimes. I usually bring another rifle along when I’m trying to work up a load or shoot precision. If I start getting frustrated I go to the 100 yard rapid fire section of my range and just have some fun. Maybe work on some bill drills or something. Some guys forget it’s supposed to be fun.

My findings and ramblings: Everyone swears by Sierra bullets. Just not me. Dont be afraid to not follow the crowd. For me and my rifle. Accuracy International AXSR .338 Lapua Hornady A-Tip groups better than Sierra MatchKing. I cannot get MatchKings to shoot sub 5 inch @1000 yrds. A-Tip will give me sub 4 inch @ 1000yrds. 3 inch on a good day. Cryo treatment of the barrel helps. Tumbling bullets in Boron nitride powder helps. (I do have to use more powder) Occasionally you will get a bad container of powder. It happens. So buying 5 containers and mixing them together solves the issue. I weigh prepped cases and bullets seperating them into batches. I make small batches of powder load, seating depth etc Log the results.. look at the graph. You'll see a sweet spot forming. Then making further small batches you can dial in..Once its there... Its there. Shoot deliberately and slowly. A hot barrel groups worse. Allow your barrel to cool between shots... Bolt action... Open the bolt after the shot to allow better cooling. Take your time. In your note taking... Note what you had to eat and drink that day. How were you feeling? Coffee is bad. BTW. as is energy/sports drinks.
