Love your channel and Maya tips. In the world that everybody and their mom are making Blender videos I welcome Maya content. Specially from advanced users like yourself! Thanks a LOT! Greetings from Mexico!
@terryrhuebottom3 жыл бұрын
Don't discount the Blender content. Frequently techniques can be interchangeable. You just have to know approximately what you need to look for in Maya to get the same effect. Yes, there are a few differences but most of the workflow is incredibly similar, and even though it may be a bit more difficult because you need to search for the same functions. (Now this being a settings video what I said doesn't really count. But I have gone through a good amount of Blender tutorials while using Maya and learned a great deal.)

Nice. Finally got a real job so I can play around in Maya again. Tough living on the edge but now that I have set my foot in the games industry for real I shouldnt have to worry about money as much for the next couple of years atleast.

Please add the note for newbies. Do not DELETE preferences just to start using maya. Do not DELETE preferences, if you are entering studio where they are already setup. And Do NOT DELETE preferences if they are working fine. Actually NEVER DELETE preferences. Just rename them, or move them to another directory, zipped them or rar them. NEVER EVER YOU NEED TO DELETE THEM. Thank you.

Really nice collection of tips! I would also recommend increasing the Texture cache size, since the default 4GB is not enough as soon as you have a mid-size scene with a surfaced environment, and it will cause renders to slow down drastically. A good default size would be 8-12GB, but it depends on the RAM size. For big production files this will have to go to 40-50GB in some cases.

Another Question. In the Applications, on the Preferences settings, you mention RV for Image Viewing Applications. What exactly is RV and how do we find or Get it?
@arvidurs3 жыл бұрын
RV is my media player. Similar to VLC or QuickTime. It’s from Shotgun/Autodesk

So how do you determine how many threads to put in that render Setting? I understand you do that based on the number of cores but how did you get the number -20?
@arvidurs3 жыл бұрын
I just tried -5 still lagging, -10 still lagging until I found a value which was good for my thread count. Also I have dual cpus which is also why my number is so high.

is there a diffrence between standard surface and "ai" standard surface?
@arvidurs3 жыл бұрын
Not really - no. The main differences is that the ai surface shader will be updated more frequently than the other one.
