I’ve bought boats, rvs, atvs, motorcycles, side by side utvs, tractors, cars and wave runners in my 52 years on the planet. I’ve found that you should shop for your best price, but the best price on something that you don’t love isn’t the best price. If you find what you love and have a dealer that is working with you, sure keep them honest shop around. I’ve found these toys do break and it’s nice to have a good relationship with the service manager. I’ve been lucky I have a great local dealer that has helped me out when something crazy has happened. We have the same rig these guys have and we love it. Enjoy the road. P.S I’ve been in the automotive business for over 30 years and know all about keeping a customer happy. Price is important, but great service is the key.

Great tips guys! Under Tip #1, when we were researching for our RV, we went on KZbin and reached out to this really Fun, Quirky, Cool Couple who had a channel called the Getaway Couple. Oh Wait! That's you! LOL! Seriously though, you both helped us in making our final decision to purchase a Grand Design 344 GK-R (for residential fridge). Oh, and one thing we totally forgot about after getting the price to what we were happy with, is don't forget added sales tax you have to pay. It will increase the price quite a bit. Here in Florida it was 6.5%. That alone added quite a few more thousand dollars to the final price. As you stated in this EXCELLENT video, we did get a few extra add-ons. We got slide-toppers, Backup Camera, & a new house battery. Thanks for another great video Rae & Jason! Have a Glamperrific Day! 👍❤️🌈😀🌈

Doing your research is the best advice in my opinion. We spent 4 years researching, going to shows, dealers, and talking with RVers. When we finally pulled the trigger, we had to order ours to get everything we wanted in our Rig. Despite that, we ended up getting it for less than 40% of the MSRP, before we added on a few things that we wanted, but aren’t normally available from the dealership. Developing a good relationship with a dealer even though you won’t buy right then, walking away from high pressure salesmen, and taking your time are necessary for getting what you want.

We bought our Grand Design Reflection after we had our Ford truck upgrade. Even then, I struggled to fully understand how to apply the towing guides and tow limits. So happy we bought a F-350 SRW vs the F-250 model. It easily handles the 34’ 5th wheel Reflection (307MKS). Now I more fully understand the tow vehicle limits. Interesting that neither the RV dealer sales rep nor the Ford dealer sales rep were useful in explaining the tow vehicle limitations to the RV’s we were considering (Solitude vs Reflection). Regarding your price pointers, fully agree. It took us (me) several years to set the budget, then plan the RV purchase. With the right strategy, we did it all in a few days, with the right timing (year end model clearance price) and funds (no loans!) Yeah!. We did give Amazon a lot of business on those RV and truck accessories.

Great video! Emailing and “wheeling and dealing” online first is the best tip! The dealer will want to give you a lower price off the bat to get you in the door so they can use those corny pushy sales tactics! This helps with a lot of back and forth with the sales managers. Also make sure to ask for the total or out the door price to include all fees. Some places have high fees added on to their price and some build it in so it can be hard to compare.

we found the RV we wanted in Arizona, it was a year older but still new (2015) the 2016's were already hit the dealer lots. I negoiated the price down until the dealer would not go any lower after a few days of going back and forwards. We found a newer RV 2016 1200 miles away in Texas for $6k less and it was a year newer. I told the dealer and showed him the price and he said go buy that one and by yhr way don't bring it here for service if you do buy it. We bought the one in Texas and never looked back. Some sales people just want to sip coffee all day.

The best tip you gave was........don't be afraid to walk away. When you have decided to walk away, just get, tell the salesperson goodbye your finished and the walk, straight to the door. Don't stop, not even when he/she calls you to come back (because they will) force him or her to come around to get in front of you face to face. Why? Psychological leverage.......you will now have the psychological advantage. Now take advantage of it. Believe me this tactic works, I have saved thousands on cars using these tactics and there is no reason this will not work on buying an RV. Also, go on an afternoon of a day that it is raining and near the end of the month if possible.. Two, things here....you can see if there are any leaks and another psychological advantage over the salesperson. But, the most important is do your home work and be prepared.......try to know more than the salesperson. And don't be afraid to look at a used RV. By doing the research Jason and Rae advise will allow you to know a deal when you see. We purchased a 2014 Solitude 369RL in March of 2018 by just this way. The rig still had the new smell and I don't think the stove had been used more than once or twice. They wanted $40K I offered $35K and we settled at $35,800. Almost $5K less than the 36' Grand Design we were going to look at next. One last suggestion, just like buying a house, get pre-approved by your bank or credit union before you go shopping this way you are ready to jump on a deal and make an aggressive offer. Good Luck! Jason and Rae....keep crushing it!

Nice job and good overall tips. I would say show prices are not the best anymore. I think shows have become so popular and dealers know many are there to buy. Typically look for 25% off MSRP. Also don't be afraid to travel for the right RV and price. Don't be fooled by that 'you need to be close to your dealer because of warranty' scare tactic. Warranty only is for a year sometimes two. After that you pay for repairs regardless of the dealer.

Hi! Thank you for posting this! I'm all about researching everything to death ha ha! My hubby and I are now in our early 50's and ready to finally get out and live our own life :) We totally want and RV so I'm trying to educate 'us both' before making this 1st purchase! We went to a couple of local show's here and saw the saving's people got, buying right then and there and it raised our eyebrow's for sure! We also met one saleman at the show for his particular brand that impressed us because no one could answer the question of, 'how mauch can our new truck tow?' He was warm and sincere in saying, 'where is your truck parked?' Let's walk to it so I can look at the sticker and your book etc (mind you, it was SO HOT OUT, as well as a LONG walk being it was our Fair Ground's. I've since, kept in touch with him and not once has he pressured me at all. Good sign?? Because we will be 'newbie's', should we start with a smaller RV to begin with? Keeping in mind however 'we do know what feature's matter to us' for example, I 'love to cook' and want more space in a kitchen, we 'don't want' bunk's, kiddie's are grown up and out now, so we don't want to be 'swayed' by a salesman when it comes to what's important to us, considering it is us who will be using it?! Thank you for giving me more ammunition to go in with because it's pretty scary as well as an expensive endeavor should it not go the way we want it to??' Wish us luck!!!! will be following you!

Hi there! Sounds like you found a great salesman. We always like the no pressure types, it makes us think they have our best interest in mind. Sounds like you've done a ton of research, we're sure you'll find the right rig for your journey 😀 Good luck and you got this!
@larrycox66144 жыл бұрын
Sounds like you've got a great start in your search. I would recommend visiting your "no pressure" sales guy's service shop. If it has at least 3or 4 bays, looks clean, well kept, and there aren't a ton of RVs in the yard to be fixed, you may have found a good dealership to buy from. You're not going to want your RV in the shop for a month or so waiting "in the queue" when something needs fixed.

Love the video great tips. Way to go Jason NO HAT LOL !!! My wife and I decided on a Grand Design Travel Trailer. The problem we had here in Michigan the ONLY dealer is General RV, same in the surrounding states. They won't give you a price they say make us an offer, soooo the research on price part is VERY important in my opinion when dealing with General RV. Keep the videos coming and be safe.

@@barryeads7639 Hey Barry, I got about 30% off. My best advise to negotiate out the door price, tax, title, destination charge, preparation charge ect..... They will change the numbers to make it work on paper. Also I left my wife at home (they can't use her against you to pressure you into a deal). I had a bottom line price and stuck to it almost walked out three times, funny how their price changes. Figure on these negotiations to take about two - three hours !!! On a different note I also got the protective spray coating for around $1,100 I think it's well worth it. Bought our rig last May washing is a breeze.

Think there's an important element that hasn't been discussed thus far - and that's SERVICE. If you buy your RV out-of-state because you're getting a great deal (or for any other reason) , then apparently your local dealer isn't obligated to service it when needed - especially warranty work. Or, you may receive lowest priority for service work. How would you advise?

Also be aware of the hidden fees....use an RV calculator with a reasonable interest rate and sales tax...we went in knowing we were going to pay $500 a month with all the upgrade we wanted (that's what the calculator said...went into dealership and we told them everything we wanted we got it to the amount we thought we were going to spend they went to their finance people she came back and the amount they wanted us to pay was $750 a month with a better interest rate....we said whoa that's not what our calculator said it would cost and we showed her and told her to explain why we are we paying$250 more than we thought....she couldn't answer us and went back to finance to "see what she could do" came back with the monthly payment at $650 is the best she could do and we told her if she can't get it to the $500 that we thought we would pay then we are walking....she went back and came back with $525 a month....then we added the extra insurance so we actually pay about $575 a month I guess they didn't want to lose a $80,000.00 sale lol

While it would have been nicer to pickup the rv in say Florida = the same rv there was listed at $5,000 - $10,000 more at the end of 2018, when I bought mine. Another good tip for getting the best deal on an rv is to shop at the end of the season and/or off-season! They didn’t want to store the rv over the winter, in my case, hence the good sale price, and with spring around the corner - I have already seen prices on what I bought going up, just in the last couple of weeks. One more tip is to try and arrange payment (or financing) on your own. Usually you can get a better deal through your own bank/credit union than through a dealer, especially on a used rv. That way you can also negotiate a better deal by essentially having cash to pay for the rv. Kari
