#8 is a very special kind of stupid. I see these ppl spit their venom whenever someone mentions buying an affordable Japanese watch, instead of some overpriced Swiss watch. They bring up "Swiss Made", whilst being wilfully ignorant of the fact that only 60% of the watch actually needs to be sourced and manufactured in Switzerland. There are loads of Swiss watches I like, but I would never consider Japanese watches to be of a lesser quality, and that's why I currently only have Japanese watches.

Would you believe Alex. I converted! I was gadget mad, latest phone every year, latest tablet, latest laptop, latest smartwatch, latest earbuds. What changed for me was the obsolescence. Everything I bought eventually became obsolete and I just stopped. My phone is now 4 years old and working fine. I still have the same smartwatch but I only wear it when I'm on the rowing machine and haven't bought a new computer unless strictly necessary. Then I found watches. They don't become obsolete, I can hand them on to my children. They have history. A Seiko Navitimer that I backpacked around the world with, a Casio G-Shock that I climbed the Fox Glacier and Mount Tasman with, a Cartier Tank I wore when I got married. You can't get memories like that from an electronic gadget. However you're right. I don't think there are many people who will change.

This video has today gotten me to put down my Tudor and pick up my Flightmaster. There are so many watches I own that get a bad rep online (and online only - because nobody would ever say these things in person), because I haven’t bought the “correct” choice. Apparently me receiving a quartz PRX as an anniversary present is basically like being a “watch poor”, when really, I’ll enjoy the second half of my present which is a trip back to Japan. What would I rather own, a £3500 watch? Or a £300 watch I can take away and create incredible memories (and will be the watch I am wearing when I propose there). I know what I’d rather have, anyway.

I‘ve been the affordable only collector snob so far. Not just for the reason mentioned that I feel I can get a lot more fun from like 10-20 different cool affordable watches instead of one luxury watch, but also because I‘m afraid that I will not connect with the watch and then would have to resell it as used, lose a lot of money, etc. Maybe I need to borrow a luxury watch from somewhere to test it so to speak, but I don‘t even know where you could do that except for friends, etc.

Yes there are probably a portion of Apple Watch fanatics that refuse to consider anything else but I think that is a small percent. My own experience after not wearing a watch for 20 years and purchasing an Apple Watch has lead me back into traditional watches and learning about different movements and all the other watch nerd things. I now have a small collection of micro brands, house brands (Islander!), Seiko, Citizen, and one Grand Seiko. So thank you Apple for getting me back into wearing *real* watches! 😛

I decided to look for a quartz to set my mechanical watches. I've done my researches and I decided that it has to be a high quality quartz movement. I finally bought a broken Seiko kinetic, serviced it, replaced the broken IC and it was worth it. Kinetic watches are like automatics but they are quartz and uses electrical energy from wrist movements so there is an interaction and connection just like mechanical watches plus the quartz accuracy. Loved this, very thought provoking, I've only got into watch collecting in the past few years, I've noticed me certainly hitting some of those listed. But its made me look at the collection and for example I have 1 Omega (inherited from my father, I think the tradition of your fathers watch is a near on holy thing, one day it will be passed to my son) some automatics (more than I would admit to) and some quartz, I started to be a bit snobbish about quartz, but then looking at some of my purchases I realized that it was very much emotive, I love the dials of some of them, yes some of them I will get rid of but mainly these are the ones I first bought at the beginning and saw that they were homages to other brands and I'm not sure how I feel about that. I love collecting old watches, to be exact, watches around the period of WW2 or before. they still have to ignite something in me, do I like the look of them etc, but its less so with other purchases because I wonder about the life of the people that wore it before me, that cared for it so that it survived to this day. My other passion is micro brands. I find myself looking at these the most, Helm for example you've more chance of getting a new Rolex before you get one of there watches and I'm lucky enough to have got the Miyako recently and I've slept with this more than my wife. Again Love this video and for evoking much thought, much like your channel.

Great video my good gents. I love my quartz watches. Of course my new favorite quartz watch is my silver Islander Bethpage Amerigraph.

Casio quartz has more soul than half the Swiss watch industry.

And some great design. Too bad the Swiss didn’t embrace quartz design!

@@theurbangentrySorry I can’t agree with you there. I have a Casio casioak and I absolutely hate it. I would take a pagani design quartz chronograph over it any day.

You guys are a good pair, perfect watch snobs. I loved Marc’s xeric. I have a Xeric Apollo 15 and I love it, it’s my second or third favorite watch in the collection.

Who knew the T in TGV actually stands for Tiger!? Agree with a lot of the points raised. At 9:51 Marc articulated it perfectly: if you like it, who cares? That's something I'm actively trying to keep front of mind as I go on my own learning/collecting journey. (Typed as i look down at my Casio CA-53w 😂)

The strap on Marc's Xeric is the same style as on the Xeric Apollo 15 watch. The puffiness is a simulation of the quilted feature on the Apollo Astronaut suit's gloves. So you are right TGV on the nexus to those seen in the movie Alien.

Omega and Grand Seiko Quartz are worth it. Same build quality and durable movements. Low servicing costs and usually at most you’re paying for a battery change and that’s it. Can go decades without a service.

I have a single quartz watch. A GA700 g-shock from Avatar 2 movie. My main thing with it is. It’s a bit annoying to set up compared to a traditional crown operated mechanical watch.
