Worst. Reply. Ever. One of the retcons in my mind that improved the character was the revised origin Geoff Johns gave to Superboy in Teen Titans. Previously, he was the clone of Paul Westfield from Cadmus with the aura of Superman cloned, giving him similar powers via tactile telekinesis. It was changed to where Superboy was in fact a partial clone of Superman with human DNA. The twist of Lex Luthor being the human side led to story arcs where Superboy struggled with his identity and who he wanted to be.

@jonathankydd18166 жыл бұрын
it's like saying, the wizard merlin warned king of the danger
@johnhooyer31016 жыл бұрын
Well, that example of the king doesn't quite hold. "Darth" is a title, but his actual description is "Sith." The words aren't the same, so you say "The Sith Lord Darth Vader," whereas for with the Merlin example you'd say "The King of Camelot King Arthur." In the films, there's some precedent for calling a Sith by his title only. Obi-Wan calls him Darth. However, this was employed in what linguists would call an evocative clause, where he's addressing Vader directly. When referring to Vader in third person, I'm not sure if it's entirely appropriate to call him Darth, although it's just fiction and there is a cultural linguistic consensus that it's acceptable to refer to Darth Vader (and Vader specifically among the Sith) as "Darth." Whether or not it's grammatically correct, it endures anyway as a culturally accepted nickname.

I understand the feeling, I was in the same boat for Flash: Rebirth. Barry Allen died the most perfect super hero death in comic book history, and amazingly, it had stuck. Wally West spent 20 year surpassing Barry Allen in every way, with the Flash mythos having a REAL sense of progression. Then Barry came back, Wally was shuffled off, New 52 happened, Wally was forgotten, replaced, and then finally returned just to be killed right back off. In death, Barry was one of the most important heroes, a legacy all others strived to live up to. Back, he was just another hero, especially once they wiped everything special about his history away.

Technically linked to your #1, my favourite 'retcon/reboot' storyline is probably the 1986 Man Of Steel comic by John Byrne. It refined the character of Clark Kent / Superman in a way that makes you wonder why it wasn't like that all along. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Man_of_Steel_(comics) (Saying that, the bit about Alfred is also high on my list - Alfred being as much Bruce Wayne's father as Thomas was, if not more so, seems integral to the entire mythos and it's way too difficult to imagine it any other way).

While I'm glad they did the ORIGINAL retcon to make Logan have retractable claws, I honestly don't like the whole "bone claw" thing. Just seems out of place with his mutation. Regeneration? cool! animal like senses? Makes sense. Can make very specific bone claws? Eeeehhhhh..... I honestly prefer the idea of them being added with his adamantium to improve his fighting ability. That makes more sense thematically. This program understanding his regeneration factor and taking advantage of the fact that he can have weapons inside of him and "unblade" these "knives" whenever he wanted BECAUSE of his existing ability. Plus it would have made Magneto removing his adamantium much more impactful.
@johnhooyer31016 жыл бұрын
Psychologically, he seemed to me to be someone who had thought of himself as a weapon and natural killer from his early developmental stages. So when he loses his memory and doesn't remember the trauma of the Weapon X program, he still reverts back to his default rough-around-the-edges personality. I like the idea that he has always hated who he was and was anti-social and feral, and then after he lost his memory the one major thing that changed about his personality was that he was trying to figure out who he was, and he began discovering quite quickly what his baseline it. He himself might have believed that the claws weren't a natural part of him, though, and just implants, so he wouldn't know exactly _why_ he had such a proclivity to hate himself.
@superpaytonmars88524 жыл бұрын
While I do respect your opinion, I personally like the bone claws. I think it's a little cooler than just weapon x giving him prosthetic razors in his arms. Plus it makes a lot more sense physiologically. Because when you think about it, how would the clause actually fit in his arms if they were artificial? My theory is that his arm bones are naturally shaped in such a way that they have pockets in which the claws can rest when not in use.

One storyline involved the Avengers trying to get the Cosmic Cube from A.I.M. In this version, the Cube was an item that could literally grant a single 'wish' to its holder once it was sufficiently powered up (more or less like in the classic Avengers story). Long story short(er), Captain America managed to get his hands on it first, and it seemed to be depowered, without granting any wish. Except.... Captain America had one secret regret he had never told anyone: The death of his sidekick Bucky, so the Cube granted him the wish he didn't consciously ask for... the scene shifts back to decades ago and Bucky beneath the freezing waters... and his eyes open!!! ^_^ Bucky was now alive, but thanks to the 'butterfly effect', he didn't necessarily have a happy life afterwards, leading to all the events that made him the Winter Soldier.

In 1939 he could jump an eighth of a mile, but when his cartoon came out in 1940 it was too tough to show him jumping, and the cartoonists instead showed him flying, and Superman began to fly instead of leaping tall buildings in a single bound.

The thing I hate about reading comics is that I get certain references and Easter eggs so I see them as forced or fan service-y. If you don’t read comics is that they seem forced (sometimes a forced line is just a forced line) or they just go over someone’s head.

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I believe the first time Wolverines claws are shown to be a part of him was in Uncanny X-Men 100-101 When part of the team is trapped in space by the Sentinals. a stripped down nearly naked Wolverine pops his claws without his gloves on, prompting Colossus to gasp "The Claws... they are part of you!" An even more often overlooked subtlety. Wolverines "Healing Factor", the thing everybody knows about him, is barely mentioned until Somewhere in the Brood Saga, roughly Uncanny X-Men #161 or so.

ok, just to point out the misconception of the retcon of wolverine's claws...… as someone who lived through that time. i'll save you the trouble of reading the misinformation from google and Wikipedia again. wolverine's mutation originally involved. heightened animalistic senses. natural ability to improve almost without specific training(like an animal) accelerated/hyper healing ability. and quick reflexes. he didn't gain his claws until he was given his adamantium chrome job in weapon x. before that he didn't have them. the only one that had any sort of claws before weapon x. was saber tooth. but when wolverine got his and ran from the program. saber tooth had his uniform outfitted with adamantium claws built to the gloves to go over his natural finger nail claws. wolverine's claws were only natural parts of his mutation as an advent of more recent comics, specifically one's tailored after the first Xmen movie

DEATH111183 : This is true. I believe Chris Clairemont created an "All about X-Men" guide that tried to explain how their powers worked. There was an x-ray of Wolverine showing his claws protruding from a metal device in his forearm, which is why his gloves and hands had metal nodes for the claws to extend from without causing damage to his skin. This fact is also backed up in the 90s X-Men Animated Series where Wolverine states Weapon-X gave him his claws. This was prior to the comics issue where Magneto strips Wolverine of his adamantium revealing bone claws, which predates the Origins mini-series showing a young Logan with bone claws killing his father.

Will someone please define the term retcon?
@Nasibu836 жыл бұрын
It means either adding or changing an already existing story. (Example ; When Batman 1st came out Bruce Wayne had to hire Alfred but at some point they changed it to Alfred was the Wayne's butler before Bruce was even born.)

It's a condensed version of: retroactive continuity, changing the story to fit a new history, saying something in the past was actually "this" instead of "that."

@TheLurkingWriter6 жыл бұрын
Funny idea even if it's wrong, so props for that. :) In Legends continuity, it's called transparisteel (aka transparent steel - kind of like Star Trek's transparent aluminium). Not saying there's 0% chance of sand being involved in the manufacturing process but it does seem unlikely. Extra trivia, the metal used in most construction was called durasteel or duranium, and the concrete equivalent was called duracrete. I haven't checked to see if this is all still the case in the new canon.

Correction, wolverine, like sabretooth and the few other ferals that have enough regenerative powers to keep increasing muscle mass, do not actually have super strength. They can just increas in muscle mass after fights or exercise as long as proper protein intake is supplied, but to an extent they can be very strong, however, its notthe type of strength that begins the class known as "super strength" That technically begins around the level wolvey can achieve, but really begins with those like Captain America that can actually lift more than 2000 lbs. And Cap is just considered closeto the pinnacle of natural human evolution, he didnt even get the truly perfected super soldier serum. SO super strength is still a bit out of the league of reality for wolvey. BUt yah, he can still hit almost a third to half as strong as cap when hes berserked out and has them claws of adamantium. Thought Id clear that up for ya. ^,;,^

6 - Recently Marvel tried to ret-retconned Wanda and Pietro as NOT being Magneto's kids, even going so far as saying they're we're not even mutants, but Inhumans, all because of the MCU. It went as well as you expected. The only real retcon Marvel did was that Magda actually a real witch, making Wanda the lastest of a line of scarlet witches.
