The "absurdly sturdy" hylian shield in skyward sword is only unlockable after the game's storyline is pretty much over. Not only is the Lightning Round a big screw-you by not letting you heal yourself, the shield itself doesn't even carry over into the next playthrough, should the player choose to so. Somewhat of an inconvenience in an otherwise well-rounded game...

When making Breath of the Wild, the devs knew that some people would collect all of the seeds and bring them to Hestu. They also knew those players would expect to get something for it. They _also_ knew that nothing they could give them would be satisfying. So they leaned into that. Then, when making Tears of the Kingdom, the devs decided to recreate the 'dead dove, do not eat' meme in those who decided to do it all again. For those who don't know, the 'dead dove, do not eat' meme is a clip from...some show I don't actually know, where a guy finds a box in the fridge. The box has a note taped to the top of it that reads 'dead dove, do not eat'. He opens the box, sees that there is in fact a dead dove inside, then says 'I don't know what I expected'.

that is biggoron’s sword. you have to do an extra long quest to get the REAL one that doesn’t break. that one is technically a fake one that’s supposed to break, so the real sword is very much worth it

@@Zelda_Thorn It's not. The Broken Giant's Knife cannot be given to Biggoron. The Broken Goron's Sword is part of the Biggoron's Sword trading quest. The Broken Goron's Sword was a Biggoron's Sword, but the lead carpenter broke it by using it in place of his saw. Even as the result of a master blacksmith, a sword is still a sword. It's not meant to be used like that.

I feel like the reward after getting all the lightroots in TotK can be both good and bad. Good because now the depths are all lit up due to all lightroots being found, but bad because the reward does NOTHING

The lighting of the roots was its own reward. The token you get just lets you know that there aren't any left to get. Though even a cursory glance at the map would show you that too.

The Circus Leader's Mask is one of my favorite quests in Majora's Mask

Thats kind of the thing about it. It's a great question line that has other rewards along the way. Yeah the reward at the end is basically a ticket need to get the end game mask, but you got a horse and a bow and a bottle along the way. So it doesn't really matter if it's worthless.

One thing about the mirror shield in Minish Cap, it is not immune to being eaten by Like Likes.

Echoes of Wisdom had Might Crystals that enhanced the gear used by Link. The NPC who helped do that offered to make something from the leftovers, but it was a statue that replenished your energy meter for Swordfighter Form. You had to clear every rift to get all the crystals, and you probably already have smoothies that could do the same job as a statue stuck in one place.

But at least the process of getting them is pretty rewarding. You get upgrades all the way up to 100/125 Might Crystals. Contrast Korok Seeds where you stop getting anything from 440/900. Literally less than halfway there, it becomes pointless to continue.

Man, those stamps. I did a mostly blind run of TPHD recently (I've played the original several times but don't recall if I ever played HD), and the number of goddamn times I expected to get a heart piece only for it to be a stamp...

Getting the other 50 gold skulltulas in Ocarina of Time all you get is unlimited gold rupees. That are useless by the time you get the rest of the gold skulltulas because you are already at the end of the game and don't need rupees anymore. You can get gold rupees anytime you want in the Lost Woods as adult Link by beating the 3 Skull Kid's they always respawn. One of the skull kids does not appear until after completing the initial parts of the Trading Sequence. All so giving the bunnyhood to the running man, big poes and the frogs at Zora's River will give you more than enough rupees for the whole game if you play it right.

Attison does give you a ton of other moderate stuff for each sign. I guess that dampens the "not worth it" if you are short on rupees.

I hate the quest from Twilight Princess where you have to help the gold guy. I didn't complete it because I couldn't find the last ghost. I looked up what happens and basically once the curse is gone he tries to find his girlfriend but finds out she got another boyfriend. That ending irks me.

The only halfway decent thing about it is getting a Huge Rupee from his cat every time you enter his house. By that point, the only real use for Rupees is if you burn them using the Magic Armor, since you're most likely to have already bought everything else.

About the Giant's Knife, Biggoron tells you that his little brother Medigoron isn't as good as he is at forging if you talk to him before giving him the Broken Goron's Sword from the trade quest. But you don't even need to hear it from him. Just compare Medigoron's work to Biggoron's. It takes Medigoron years to forge the Giant's Knife. Meanwhile, Biggoron, who is both self-aware and upfront enough to admit upfront that he isn't consistent with how long he'll be working on his forging, only takes three days to forge something that blows his brother's work out of the water.

3:19 you forgot to mention that, yes you get the mirror shield at the end of the game, but it’s at the end of the game THE SECOND TIME. YOU HAVE TO PLAY IT TWICE!!!!

You don't have to play it twice. After the credits roll when you beat the final boss, Biggoron's event can be triggered simply by loading up the file again.

i love using the broken knife in oot on the back of that giant guard that guards the entrance to the forest temple. those things sound so cool when you hit them. so being able to hit it more without killing it.. is amusing. so the broken giant's knife has a use

i found out the key to doing the mounted obstacle courses in BotW is how fast or slow your horse is going, what bow(s) you're using, and generally being hyperfocused to your surrounding and the mistakes you make and what steps to take to mitigate that error. i liked the obstacle course where you jump poles, even if it DID made me salty, but the prizes were not worth it. the bow challenge was a bit tricky (and a waste of valuable resources like quality bows and arrows), but i personally liked the prizes it offered. then the pony points system came in TotK and i was like, screw it.

For the mounted archery challenge in BotW, I made a save right before I started the challenge, and that way I could avoid needlessly breaking a ton of bows by just reloading the save whenever I missed a target. But doing it this way was tedious as shit because of all the dialogue I had to get through

Getting the Giant Wallet in Twilight Princess (on the GameCube) was particularly frustrating for me, because I didn't go looking for it until after I got the Magic Armor (meaning I only had 2 rupees left after buying it with my Big Wallet). I needed so many golden bugs, that I quickly overfilled my Big Wallet in receiving the numerous rupee rewards from Agitha for completing all the pairs. After finally collecting ALL of the bugs, I finally got my Giant Wallet, only to then realize that I still only had 500 rupees to my name, and I had to find some other way to fill the new wallet up and finally get some utilization from my new armor! Check the floor, Link! You dropped so many rupees in that same room!

True; the only benefit is an Easter Egg animation in the Bongo Bongo fight; if you freeze a hand, the other will punch it to free itself.

I'm not sure it's fair to say any mask in Majora's mask isn't worth the effort, given how amazing the Fierce Deity's Mask is. Also, at least the Giant's Knife was designed to be not worth it - that's the fake out to make the biggoron's sword worth it. Tend to agree with the rest though, although Ocarina of Time's golden skultulas certainly deserve a mention! And part of me also wonders what kind of reward would have actually made the koroks worth it in BOTW and TOTK.. probably better to have nothing than have something underwhelming, given the chances of getting them all in time for it to make a difference to your play through is pretty slim.

I feel the Korok seeds don't really count unless you go for all 900. The inventory slots are great rewards... Just don't gather anymore once they stop granting said upgrades.

My sister is crazy enough to go after all the Korok seeds. I didn't bother collecting them all. I never caught the loach. I really hate the fact that the Mirror Shield is useless by the time you get it. It's basically just a trophy. I cheat and use the Universal ring code instead of trying to get the ring the legit way. I did like holding up the signs and I usually use the stuff that is lying around instead of just using a hover stone. There's 81 of them? I didn't realize it was that many. I did them all. I am never doing the Carlov Medal again. The stuff in the house is useless by the time you get it. I actually got all the Miiverse stamps but I don't plan on collecting them again.

Let’s not forget the hell we had to go through to get the couples mask in MM. At least the circus leader’s mask had a purpose, unlike the couples mask which you get after I forget how many side quests

The Couple's Mask earns you a Piece of Heart by wearing it to the mayor's meeting. The problem with the Circus Leader's Mask is that the "purpose" it has is for a side quest that you already did in order to get the mask in the first place, and there's very little value to doing that quest more than once. As stated in the video, the 3DS version does give the Troupe Leader's Mask another purpose, by letting you get another Empty Bottle, so it's slightly more worthwhile.

I myself did get the Frog Lure, mostly because I wanted to see what Hena said if you caught the loach fair and square. Didn’t mind it at the time, but I might now. I also got the Bomber Ring. Such. A. HEADACHE! I did get the Circus Leader’s Mask, but it was just fro trading, like you said. I got the Giant’s Knife once, just to see what it was like. SO regretted it!

Zelda likes to pretend it’s an MMO sometimes with ridiculous unnecessary time sinks. I stopped playing Breath of the Wild b/c of the ridiculous time sink that goes into restorative items. Climbing trees individually to get fruits plus the travel time and time it takes to fight off surrounding monsters gets extremely old after the 20th trip.

you can just cut down the tree to get the apples. or just pick up the mushrooms everywhere. or kill animals with bombs for meat. in TOTK you can use autobuild to strip all the apples off trees instantly like a) BOTW is clearly meant as a timesink, but b) getting food in BOTW is the least timesink-y thing in it. you really booted up a massive, open-world maze of a game and said why do i have to explore anything at all 😂

@@shyguykid7935 no, you have to do a series of quests. some of them are timed. it starts out by going to get him eye drops as adult link. you have to do a quest that involves a cuckoo. another quest that involves the potion shop. one that involves a skull kid. the one that you essentially buy is the one he’s talking about in the video. the one that breaks after 8 hits

7:49 Well yeah because the breakable weapons were forced on people whether they liked it or not. At least the Giant's Knife is optional, maybe even missable since most people would have done the trading sequence for the Biggoron Sword which doesn't break.
