Nice! I have no idea why I haven't thought of putting contact sensors at the bottom of a door! Smart buttons are a MUST for getting things done in Apple Home.

I have some tall doors, so for battery changing ease I put them all at the bottom 😅

@@beardfm Fantastic! Not only that, but they are Maybe less conspicuous at the bottom as well.

Great job, Stephen! Easy sub from me. The home theater automation is 🔥.I'm actually putting together a HomeKit video at the moment, do you mind if I use a short clip from your video as b-roll? Either way keep up the good work.

Not so much automated when you have to hit another button to have something happen. And have to keep track of all these extra buttons around the house and remember, what does what!

What do you prefer? TUO or Flic? You could even make a video on what is a better smart button. Thank you for your videos

Flic has been rock solid but I don’t like having to deal with the hub. You had been reliable too and works without any hub. I’d try tuo

I am just getting started with my smart home. Bought some Blink cameras and got some Echo Show 5s free with them a few years ago for a little security, but recently got a few smart lights. Plan to transition fully over to Apple Home. Only have a few automations so far, but they’re wife approved. When anyone arrives home the dining room lights turn on, and when she tells Alexa goodnight they turn off and the bedroom lights turn on; which, in a two story house is nice. On the way up the stairs say goodnight and we don’t have to worry about using the stair light or turning the dining room off… the light switch locations in our house were designed by idiots so the automations really help out. (Well, that was a novel… sorry.)

Thanks for sharing! Those lighting automations are a great convenience.

Hi Stephen, Great video. Quick question, what outdoor fan do you use that works with HomeKit? Thank you
@beardfm

Those fans are actually on a Leviton switch. But Hunter Douglas makes fans with HomeKit built in

Based on your experience, which button has been the fastest to respond and the most reliable.

Flic is really fast and have been reliable, but only had those for a month or so. Aqara have been solid and I’ve used for over a year. Tuo I think will be the best combo of speed / no hub, but only had a week or so. Can follow up after months of use.

4:52 you can actually do this with any HomeKit contact sensor via Convert to Shortcut
@beardfm
@beardfm Жыл бұрын
I’ve found it’s not consistent though. What Shortcuts steps are you using?
@morells09
@morells09 Жыл бұрын
@@beardfm fair, my automation has been pretty rock solid but the one minor annoyance I've discovered and yet haven't found a solution for is being able to cancel the timer if the door is closed before it runs out. I'm converting to shortcut when the contact sensor is opened, then Wait 300 seconds (5 minutes) then an If statement that specifies if the contact sensor state is open, set certain smart bulbs to red, otherwise do nothing.
