um, pesticides and herbicides don't magically become liquid plant food. Organic just means they only use certain herbicides and pesticides that are approved for organic farming. This causes less yield per acre which means higher prices. There is no study that has shown organic is in any way healthier to eat. It is true that most organic produce has a slightly shorter shelf life, but that has many factors to it and there is much more to the cause than just the difference in pesticides and herbicides that are used.

That town has another grocery chain (Food City) that is small and has stores in just a small area of four states. There are two small independents in that town. In a different direction, about 20 miles, there is a much smaller town with two grocery stores, one of which is part of a chain of independent grocers and the other is a chain of discount grocery items with only no-name brands. Another 20 miles further is a city with a Super Walmart, a store with that chain of regional stores, a store from a chain with no-name brands, and two other discount stores. Some interesting points raised. However comments regarding dollar store pricing missed the entire point that the size of the packs at dollar stores are usually non standard and therefore are generally more expensive per gram. Also the ranges offered at dollar stores are simply variety’s which are sold cheaply as new entry samples to see if there’s a market for them to offer for general release into the general supermarkets, therefore creating demand. New flavours new versions etc get tested out at dollar stores before being offered into general sales and of course they come with additional sales feedback, because they’ve already been trialed elsewhere locally.

Wow! This seems like an anti-Walmart propaganda video. We shop at Walmart, Costco and several well-known grocery store chains. Like all stores, Walmart's prices on fresh produce tend to vary with current market conditions. As far as meats and most non-perishable items go, Walmart is often cheaper or at least competitive. When choosing where to shop, people should look at the big picture, i.e.; overall value.

Very true, Michael! People need to know their prices. Some things are cheaper at Wal-Mart, others may be cheaper at Costco, while some other items may be cheaper at other stores. It's called critical and independent thinking, as well as comparative shopping. A lot of people look only at the price and will automatically grab the item with the lower price without checking the weight or volume as well. Dollar stores are great for catching people on this, especially with cereals and kid's School-type snacks. Another thing to consider is traveling distance. Is it really worth that extra ten bucks in gas to save a dollar or two on only a couple of items? I truly believe that we were given a head to be used as more than just a hat-rack.

That's just poison applied to the outside of your veggies or chemical nutrients fed to them while growing. Those two things do nothing to make the veggies more vigorous or long lasting. In fact, organic produce tends to last longer than conventional produce on the average because of how it is typically handled. It is frequently hand picked, travels less miles, and is not thrown around big distribution operations to bruise it and make it spoil faster.

As an old farm kid, I always find it funny when people start talking about "organic" food. What most of them don't realize is that ALL food USED to be organic! I'm fortunate enough to live in a rural area with many small butcher shops selling only locally raised chicken, pork and beef. They also grind their own meat. For $2.89/#, I can buy ground chuck that's so lean, I actually have to ad ground pork to it when I want to make burgers, meatballs etc. so that it sticks together. As for veggies, people need to get outside and plant a garden if they want REAL organic food!

I am a former Walmart employee and I have a different issue with the meat. All the meats arrive at the store already packaged. There are no butchers in the store, just employees who stock the coolers. Therefore, you can't get any kind of a special order or cut of meat they don't already stock. There are no people who qualify as being knowledgeable about the products. I know lots of people have questions about preparations, etc. and no one can help them. With few exceptions, I always bought my meats at a grocery store.
@AS-uy9gn5 жыл бұрын
So it pays to shop around? That has always been true. Sale prices get people in the door so that they'll also buy your non-sale items. Walmart is a good place to buy many things but no retailer will always have the lowest prices with the highest quality. I guess that Walmart is the easy target.

I about dropped my phone when they recommended buying food at the dollar store instead of Walmart. The sourcing of their food is at least as sketchy and its best to closely monitor the freshness dates. The one advantage is dollar stores often order up smaller jars and bottles of product to keep the price so low and that's good for single people.

"Buy snacks at the dollar store because they have brands local retailers don't offer." You speak as though it is bonus to not buy your favorite brand. I don't find knock-offs worth a dollar to be a bonus. And comparing Walmart prices to club stores also makes no sense. Especially since I can buy one package at Walmart instead of having to buy a 12-pack at Costco! Lastly, yes I can usually (not always) find better ground beef prices than Walmart, but that takes a lot of my time to sift through the ads. Plus if you have to go to another store 4 miles from Walmart (where you are already doing your other shopping) you are adding $2.32 in fuel/wear on your car...so that 50 cents per pound savings will actually cost you $1.82 more, plus more of your valueable time.

As a long haul trucker, I've hauled produce (both organic and non organic) to most of the chain store distribution centers. My personal experience is that Walmart is far more pickier about their produce than any other chain I've hauled to (Costco, Kroger, Safeway, and a few others). I shop for produce at Walmart because I know they are very particular about their produce. They have no problem rejecting produce and leaving it on your trailer, where you wind up taking it somewhere else (like a produce market).

@chadward60774 жыл бұрын
@@MacGuffinExMachina buying into the "natural craze". Lmao. Putting your life in the hands of greedy corporations that only care about maximized profits seems pretty logical and totally not crazy. An Abundant Sweetener Fructose is a sugar abundant in honey and fruits such as apples, peaches, pears, and oranges. It's also the main ingredient in high-fructose corn syrup used in hundreds of juices, sodas, condiments, snacks, and other foods. The problems occur because in many people fructose is not easily absorbed by the body. Fructose is usually absorbed in the small intestine, but for those with fructose intolerance, some travels to the colon, where bacteria ferment the fructose. This causes the release of hydrogen and methane gases, which cause pain, bloating, flatulence, and diarrhea. Table sugar does not cause this reaction because it also contains glucose, which aids in the absorption process. In their two-year study, researchers at the University of Iowa found high fructose corn syrup caused more symptoms like acid reflux, heartburn, excess gas compared to little to no symptoms from table sugar. I myself am allergic to corn syrup and have zero reactions to "natural sugar". High fructose corn syrup is the worse for me. By the way, that's research from actual doctors that specialize in dietary science.

Their lesser cuts have so much pink slime and water in it that a 2 lb package when cooked yields less than a lb of actual meat. Their grass fed beef is a better quality, but you'll pay for that quality. To the tune of $5-8 a lb. Also, I'm sad to see you say that their snacks aren't a good buy. Their Great Value brand of both chips and snack cakes (ala Little Debbie) are better buys than the dollar store, with some of the products (reg. ripple chips and swiss rolls) tasting better in my opinion than their brand name counterparts. Update: the neighborhood market I frequent appears to be phasing out the Great Value snack cakes. Don't know what that's about. But it blows.
