A few extra tips: You can key-bind controls to adjust the range on your gun-sight ( _ie "zeroing" the gun_ ). I have the controls for increasing and decreasing the range key-bound to two buttons on the side of my mouse, and the I use the "/" button to reset the range. This allows you to set the desired range and aim straight at your target instead of aiming above them and will be really useful, when used with your rangefinder, for firing at long distances. If you don't know how to kill a tank then check out its armor layout in a preview. With the addition of the " *armor protection analysis* ", you can also see the penetration chance of every shell in the game, at any distance, vs the armor on any part of any tank. In the same protection analysis you can also left click to simulate a shot. This feature is very useful to see what will actually happen when you shoot a certain spot, since some areas that are stated as having a high ricochet chance, or low penetration chance, will still be penetrated when shot at and vice versa. Bind a button for " *Cruise Control* ". I have mine bound to the Q and E buttons (to decrease and increase my cruise control level respectively). Essentially it just automatically drives your tank forward/ backwards and you can choose between various predefined speeds. It's great for travelling long distances without having to hold down W/S. Cruise control is also very helpful in combat in order to maintain a slow, consistent speed for firing on the move and it is necessary for some vehicles such as the Bradley IFV. Aim for the engine, the gunner, or ammo. Aim for the engine when your enemy has a chance of escaping from you, aim for the gunner if you can't risk them firing at you, and aim for ammo if you think you can one-shot it with your ammo. Sometimes ammunition won't detonate so aiming for ammo can be risky. If you have a good enough gun then often times you can just aim center-of-mass and one-shot a tank without putting much thought into it. Turn off " *grass in gun-sight* ". This will get rid of grass when looking through your gun-sight, making it easier to aim. Angle your tank whenever you are in combat. Angling improves the chance of ricochets and increases your armor's effective thickness. Angling is especially important in tanks like the Tiger H1, which is completely vulnerable when not angled, but capable of ricochets and non-penetrations when angled. Make sure that when you angle your tank, you aren't angling yourself in a way that makes another part of armor more vulnerable or exposes an obvious weakpoint, to do this go look at your armor layout in the preview or customization window. You can keybind the guns on your tanks to specific controls. I have mine set to 1, 2 and 3 on the numpad, which lets me switch between controlling the main gun alone, all guns, or only secondary guns such as roof-mounted and hull-mounted machine guns. Binding individual guns helps you with tanks that have multiple turrets or when you want to use your machine gun to kill something (such as a plane) without turning your entire turret around. You can catch lightly armored vehicles off guard by only turning your roof-mounted mg to face them instead of your main gun and filling them full of holes. A *_quick_* ammo guide: *_As of update 2.5 "Ixwa Strike" the game mechanic "hullbreak" has been replaced with "overpressure". Any projectile with HE filler can cause overpressure. If a projectile detonates and causes enough damage to internal modules then the game will activate the overpressure mechanic, damaging or killing all crew members within a crew compartment due to excessive pressure. Tanks with divided crew compartments will only experience overpressure in the compartment that was hit and open-top vehicles may be instantly killed by ammunition exploding several meters away from them._ *----- KINETIC AMMUNITION ----* -*SH (Shrapnel)* : This ammunition is only found on a few Soviet tanks and maybe some other tanks. It has very little penetration and its purpose is similar to HE, except the shrapnel effect is in the form of a cone rather than a sphere, making it less effective. -*AP (Armor Piercing)* : Solid shot with a large projectile piece and smaller fragments that damage an area in the direct path of the shell. Some shells designated as AP actually have some explosive filler inside of them, so check to see if the ammunition's stat card states it as having any. -*APHE (Armor Piercing High-Explosive)* : Armor piercing shots with a high explosive filler. They detonate inside the tank, but the damage varies depending on the amount of explosive filler, the fuse sensitivity compared with the armor being penetrated, as well as the fuse delay. The explosive effect can be blocked by modules inside the tank such as the gun breach. -*APDS (Armor Piercing Discarding Sabot)* : A sub-caliber composite round with high penetration, but a high ricochet chance and limited post-penetration effect. -*APCR (Armor Piercing Composite Rigid)* : A sub-caliber, composite round with high penetration but a really high chance to ricochet off any sloped armor and basically no post-penetration damage. This is probably the worst ammunition you could ever use and God help you if you have this as part of your stock grind. Only use this trash if you need to penetrate heavy armor that isn't at an angle, such as the front plate on a Tiger 1. -*APFSDS/ APDS-FS (Armor Piercing Fin-Stabilized Discarding Sabot/ Armor Piercing Discarding Sabot Fin-Stabilized)* : APFSDS rounds offer the highest penetration for kinetic ammunition and have the best post-penetration damage effect compared to solid ammo such as AP, APDS, and APCR. APFSDS rounds also have very high muzzle velocities, so they perform better over long distances, and they can penetrate extremely angled armor. *---- CHEMICAL AMMUNITION ----* All chemical ammunition retains its penetration regardless of range and will cause overpressure* upon detonation. -*HEAT (High-Explosive Anti-Tank)* : HEAT rounds have very high penetration and they do not lose penetration over distance, but the post-penetration damage effects are very limited, usually just a solid line with very little spread. -*HEAT-FS (High-explosive Anti-Tank Fin-Stabilized)* : HEAT-FS rounds have extremely high penetration but a limited post-pen damage effect. These rounds have higher penetration compared to HEAT and are more accurate. -*HE (High Explosive)* : You're basically firing a bomb. It detonates on impact which creates shrapnel in a sphere around the point of detonation. HE rounds usually have very little penetration but can still kill tanks by going through lightly armored parts such as the roof, floor and sides. HE rounds should primarily be used against lightly armored vehicles. HE-DF shells have a variable fuse which will detonate at a distance specified by the player, via the rangefinder. HE-VT shells have a proximity fuse. -*HESH (High Explosive Squash Head)* : These rounds do not penetrate armor, instead they create a concentrated explosion on the outside of the tank, causing the armor on the inside of the tank to break and turn into shrapnel. The direction that the shrapnel will fly in depends on the angle of the armor being hit, and a large surface will create more shrapnel. HESH can be stopped by small objects on the outside of the tank or by the tracks, making it unreliable at times. -*ATGM (Anti-Tank Guided Missile)* : ATGMs are missiles that can be guided with the mouse or with the keyboard, depending on the missile being used. ATGMs have insane amounts of penetration and their post-penetration damage varies wildly. "Tandem" ATGMs have two warheads; the first warhead detonates any Explosive Reactive Armor (ERA) and the second warhead penetrates the armor itself. *---- ADDITIONAL ABBREVIATIONS ----* -*C ("Capped" rounds)* : Any round with a C in its designation such as" APC" (Armor Piercing Capped), has a cap on it. The cap gives it better penetration vs sloped armor. -*BC ("Balistic Capped" rounds)* : Any round with a BC in its designation such as APHEBC, APBC, etc.. has a ballistic cap on it, which improves penetration at range as well as penetration against sloped armor. _Some ammo will have a combination of these such as APCBC._ WT wiki links: wiki.warthunder.com/Ground_vehicles wiki.warthunder.com/Tank_ammunition

also got tips for grinding early german vehicles? you have no idea how many times i died because the panzer3/4's got no armour, a tree for a commander hatch, no gun traverse, and no turret traverse to respond to any threat that genuinely tries to kill them. and of course, the early light tank destroyers suffer from that problem 2x harder. i can't get into aggressive sniper positions because of this, and especially not head into towns as i can't tank, can't traverse towards any target, nor point the gun. it just takes far too much time to get into firing position for it to be feasible against someone who's aware of you. and don't get me started on defending against flanking maneuvers in cities or on the outskirts, because i have been killed and been too slow to fire at tanks for turning like a ft 17 far too many times. that has also led to alot of deaths when trying to camp the far flan bushlines. i could of course just sit back and play super passively as a far backline sniper, but that seems to net me 0 caps and maybe 1 kill a match as nothing really comes near the back lines unless the enemy is pushing your cap point.

I normally used to cap and first only if I got a good headstart. The moment I reached Cap point I would actively search for a house or object to hide behind and start the Capping. If teammates couldn't catch up then just smoke up the whole area and try to bugger off ASAP. Capping points always gave me some much needed SL. But it also helps to have a tank with good speed like M24 or else it becomes too risky

I'd dispute the 'only have three slots per nation'. I think it's better to at least buy the extra ones for silver...it gives you flexibility when fighting a battle. Sometimes certain classes of vehicle make more sense on certain maps, certain battle situations or with particular objective layouts. Also, if you're playing RB, you want slots for a AAA vehicle and a plane or two. That flexibility more than makes up for a more spread out xp situation imo.
@tobipolley3322

@@MarkGFL Good point. Building a line-up is quite a bit on your personal taste and strategy. I tend to keep at least a plane and a AAA in my lineup no matter what, and I've seen people have two planes (a bomber and a fighter)...plus their normal tank line-up.
@SpoonyMetal
@SpoonyMetal 5 жыл бұрын
I bawked at that, you need more than 3 in a line up as different maps require different tank capabilities. If your new, build in a line up that allows flexibility, speed for when you need it, heavy armour for when you need it...ie defending a winning position etc...more tanks allow this and definitely have 1 plane min in your line up.
@andrehashimoto8056
@andrehashimoto8056 5 жыл бұрын
Three crew only is restricting, say you have a lineup with decent mobility and some firepower, bit lacks pure defensive capability (not enough armor to hold damage from killing you), and the game situation became one where team has two caps but enemy made a MASSIVE assault towards a single cap, to ward off them, surviving the incoming fire will be necessary, 3 slots would force player into a AA dedicated slot, one first spawn choice and a backup/alternative first spawn choice, not enough leeway to help the team with what's needed (for example, British have a Matilda as a 3.0 AB and 2.7 RB, it won't cut in damage, but will obviously put a halt to enemy offensive for a while if they don't have a long 75mm for germans of the meme 3.7 90mm Italian SPG). Early on, 4 slots is enough to have a plane, dedicated SPAA, a tank + an extra vehicle to choose as an alternative for change of tactics.

Aj Hiep if you're talking about the American T34, that thing has a 120mm cannon with 282mm pen at 10m. And also I'm assuming you didn't angle and he was higher than you, or he shot you turret with only 185mm(H model) or 100-120mm(P model) of armor. It's quite easy to kill Tiger IIs frontally unless they are downtierd to 5.3(P)/5.7(H). Russian T-34 wise, T-34-85 can go through your turret if you are in a P model or I think the MG port is a valid shot too, not completely sure though.

One big tip: pay attention to the BRs of your lineup, because while you can't control if you get uptiered in a given match, you _can_ control the upper limit of that uptier. If you're running a German 4.0 lineup, then the worst you'll have to face is 5.0...but when you go to 4.3, you're suddenly at risk of running into some of the most infamous tanks in the game at 5.3 like the Jumbo and the IS-1. Similarly, you can tell before you even spawn if you've been uptiered or downtiered because your spawn costs will be lowered or raised, respectively. Some tanks that are very good at or below their BR become dramatically less effective in an uptier, especially heavy tanks, so save yourself some spawn points by not rolling out your KV-1 when there are a half-dozen Tigers on the field. Plus, if you save that heavy tank, it may prove invaluable in the lategame if it comes down to the wire. An uptiered heavy tank can really shine when the other team is down to the dregs of their lineup.

Ok, here is a tip a lot of people miss. You don't have to play every tank in the game to progress. You only have to unlock a tank to get past it, and four tanks per tier to go to the next tier. That means that if you don't like a vehicle, or think it is underpowered...don't play it. There is no path of module unlocks you need to do to go to the next tank in the line, and no reason to play a particular vehicle except that you choose to. An example: say you like the KV-1 (KV-1 L-11 in WT speak) and think it is amazingly OP. You could drive nothing BUT the KV-1...and unlock every other tank in the same tier (rank in WT speak), and every tank in the tier after it, for no penalty.

Pro tip: Machine gun bullets can destroy the tracks of enemy tanks. If your cannon is disabled and your tank has a machine gun, this is a good option if you’re in a desperate situation. You can use it to also spot the enemy on the map for your team mates and possibly briefly blind the enemy if you lay down machine gun fire on their gunner sight, assuming they aren’t using the third person camera.
@kevinl2482
@kevinl2482 3 жыл бұрын
Good luck with the track destroying if you don't have a .50 cal. Even if you do, it takes around 15-20 seconds(Not completely sure because no one really does that anyway) to do it, and lets just say 90% of the time you won't make it out alive, and it really doesn't affect the enemy much even if you take their track out. The best thing is to try to Machine gun out their barrel, because if you are successful at even making their barrel dark orange, they usually don't have RNGesus on their side so they will destroy their barrel by firing(more experienced players know to back off when the thing on the bottom left shows your gun is damaged or when their barrel is orange since the repair is quicker if your barrel isn't blacked out, and you have a chance for your teammates to come help you or even allow you to repair and destroy them. Also, the blinding only works at 300-500 meters. At 100 meters, it doesn't matter if you blind them if they have their gun already pointed at where they are shooting next. I do it when I'm about to die anyway because there isn't anything else to do, but generally it doesn't work too well when I do it.

@@kage_tactical M2 Browning is also a .50 cal. As I said, it takes around 15 seconds to destroy tracks, in which case you'll be dead. And it has more pen than Russian .50 cals. Also, even with a 75mm round from Sherman, it sometimes has trouble taking out tracks in one shot, especially if its a track from a heavy tank. Also, high tier tanks are phast, so they'll be right next to you before you can do any good amount of damage to the tracks. Generally going for cannon barrel is a better option, but you'll have to know where to hit on the cannon barrel. Pretty much, hit the most perpendicular part of the cannon barrel because if you hit the side and you are facing it, it will do no damage and just bounce off. If you make their barrel dark orange and they fire, it will misfire and completely take out their barrel, while a tank can still move even if their track is red(with lower efficiency though).

This Is the hardest tip but best tip, learn to identify the enemies tanks you see and then learn the weak spots to hit, ie the difference between a kv-1 and a kv-2. You can fire endless rounds at a Kv-1 and do no damage but aim for its weak gunner viewing port just right of the gun and it will shoot straight thru. One shot a stug by hitting the flat part right of the barrel and learn where the ammo is kepted and you can one shot even a Maus by hitting it's ammo rack. It takes many games of practice but eventually killing tanks gets easier and easier.

Know your maps. Know where to go, what routes are fastest, where the enemy is likely to be, and what areas work best for your vehicle. Knowing your maps is a huge strategic advantage. It's real easy as a beginner to do two things: following the crowd and shy from exploring. Both of these are likely the result of War Thunder's unforgiving gameplay. After a few matches of getting pummeled by the enemy team, it's natural to want to stay with the crowd for meat shields and stick to the areas you already know. However, you don't know if you're missing out on a location you might really enjoy, stragglers that won't expect you, or a good flank around the enemy team. My advice to new players would be to not be afraid of venturing out and into the unknown regions of the map. It's more than likely you'll find a path or location that works really well for your style of play. Above all, don't worry about dying; so what if you do? It's not like the game deletes itself if you die to many times. Live and learn.

1. Shooting the cannon breech has the same effect as knocking out the gunner 2. extra cautious at vegetation because there are tanks covered with bushes 3. not just research parts and FPE but crew replenishment is also vital 4. the light tank spotting system is very useful as spotting an enemy for everyone and you’ll get a kill assist if the spotted tank is eliminated 5. memorizing every turret rotation speed and weapon depression is vital as your tank might tilted up for a bit and facing an enemy who will circle you 6. make sure you bring someone you trust in a squad so you can beg your squadmate to tow your tank if damaged 7. Smoke shells are pretty useful for annoying your enemy 8. The best place to shoot a tank is the side 9. Use the “attention to the map” wisely 10. Don’t use the default paint especially the german tank and unnecessary decals because they give no tactical advantage whatsoever This is my tips, hopefully this will be useful
@kevinl2482
@kevinl2482 3 жыл бұрын
I agree with most of them just got some things I want to mention. Depending on which tank, you want to get new rounds before crew replenishment since you literally might be able to do nothing without better rounds. Memorizing rotation speed an depression is unnecessary as you can check right before you click to battle and you can check any time by clicking 'M' by default(unless changed), and hovering your mouse over your vehicle.Best place to shoot a tank is the side isn't always true. I'm mainly talking about light tanks. Sometimes, tanks like that cancerous r3 have so little side armor(8 mm or something like that) that hitting it with AP and any form of APHE will guarantee only 1 or 2 crew members killed. Unless you have HEAT, HESH, or HE loaded(Hull_break.exe), you want to shoot lightly armored targets from the front. Also, minor thing, Shooting a cannon breech and killing a gunner is quite different. Yes, you lose the ability to fire temporarily for both, but you get a gunner back automatically as long as you have more than 2 crew, while of your breech is out, you have to find somewhere to hide, hold 'F'(;)) by default, and repair while you can't move. Otherwise, this list is very nice.

You just have to use max Cruise control instead of holding W and make sure your two rope is not too long. 7. Is you use it right, it won't annoy your teammates(e.g. don't shoot smoke right in front of your teammates. And if your teammate is repairing, go pop a smoke for them. And if none of your team can kill a tank like Maus or down tiered Tigor II, then pop a smoke right in front of the Enemy tank or in the middle and retreat. 9. I don't know if you've played War thunder recently but almost everyone 5.0+ pays attention to that unless they are in a plane and the map is too unspecific. So a 125mm sloped armor at 50° can be effectively considered 200mm of armor
@ValkyrieLightwing
@ValkyrieLightwing 5 жыл бұрын
I'd actually correct a couple of these slightly, personally. 3. Regarding ammo, yes, less is typically better, however don't get carried away. There are some vehicles with not a lot of ammo to begin with, or there are vehicles that will most likely be one shot 9 times out of 10 anyway (Smaller vehicles with tightly packed crew), I'd say don't be too worried about ditching ammo in those tanks. 4. I do agree about not shooting the same place twice, however sometimes this isn't the best decision. Let's say, for example, you are shooting the drive wheel of a tank around a corner, or you have an enemy in a position where you don't have the option to shoot wherever you want. If you disable a vehicle and/or it's crew, you can count to around 8-15 seconds until the crew starts to get replaced, which at that time, is when you can shoot again. So if you are shooting a hull down tank, disable it's turret and crew, just wait about 10 seconds and shoot again when the crew switches around and it should be a kill. And yes, you can actually take out the same crew member more than once. Crew replace each other until there are only 2 left, at which point is an instant kill if either of them get knocked out. 8. I don't agree with this one at all actually. It's better to have all 5 slots if you can afford it, because the more spawns you have the choice of, the better (at least for RB, not sure how AB works anymore). This is because for a good loadout, you're going to want 3 of your top/best tanks, a fighter plane, and a bomber/attacker if you have any planes. If you are strictly tanks then you will want at least 1 TD and/or 1 SPAA as they are usually cheap to spawn in but still useful. If you absolutely insist on only using 3 slots, then if you find a tank that you really enjoy and do well in, put that in your highest skill crew, and just keep doing so as you go up the line. Also don't forget to purchase expert training on the crew with your favorite vehicles so you have better stats with them (reload time, crew replacement time, crew durability, etc.) I have all slots for most nations aside from Japan, and Italy, and it is sooo helpful. I can't tell you how many matches would have been a loss for me had I not had the extra 2-6 slots to spawn in. It also massively increases your potential effectiveness, as you can take all different types of vehicles ready for any situation. My own personal tip that comes to mind immediately, would be to not use APCR. Like, ever. The AP Solid shot rounds got buffed a bit ago and are pretty powerful depending on the size, however APCR and APDS is just awful. I always try to avoid using either of them unless I need the extra penetration to knock out specific parts of a tank like the engine, transmission, turret ring, or certain crew members), otherwise I cut my losses and pick another fight. The reason being, is that unlike AP (explosive filler or solid shot), APCR/APDS does little to no spalling damage, or fragmentation, meaning that your shell will just go straight, and whatever is in the immediate path of the shell will sometimes get taken out but that's it. So yea, despite what the penetration tables say, AP rounds are better than APDS or APCR. APFSDS>HEATFS>APCBC/APBC/AP/>APDS>APCR

Extra Tipps from me: 1. Don't buy a high rank premium vehicle from early on, it will just ruin all the fun you could have. Wait at least until you are at rank 3 and then you can even think about a rank 4 premium vehicle. I wouldn't buy a rank 5 premium vehicle, because I think the most fun you can have is around rank 1-4. 2. Play some arcade battles before you can even think about realistic battles. Simulator has its own story especially when it comes to planes. Get a feeling for the game and then you can expand to other game modes. I'm Level 39, so I think I can call myself experienced. I often play realistic, but I still come back to arcade from time to time. 3. In Arcade mode you can call an aircraft: fighter, attacker or a bomber. If you are a fighter defend the allied attacker or bomber. Don't go for enemy tanks, because an air kill counts around the double and you help out your team. A good bomber pilot can get 4 kills or even more. 4. Choose your starter nation wisely. Good starter nations are the Germans and the Soviets. The Americans are also good at rank 1 but later it gets harder. It's pointless to start with a nation like Japan or France, because there you can't really specialize yourself. That's because the tech trees of Japan, France and Italy are very small, that means that there aren't many vehicles. Britain is in the middle. It has many vehicles but also many holes in the tech tree. 5. Every vehicle has a stat card. That's really important for planes, because there you can see the maximum speed, climb rate, turn rate, etc. Flying planes is a science by itself but it will help you at the beginning. 6. Don't teamkill. That means don't drop artillery on allies, don't push allied tanks from the map, don't drop bombs on allies and don't shoot allied planes down. If someone is going on your nerves, because of I don't know, maybe someone is inactive, teamkilling, vulgar language, etc, just report him. Because if you teamkill you can be reported by your own. 7. If someone is Level 22 and playing in a rank 4 battle let him do that, give him Tipps and help him and don't call him bad and useless like I have experienced it by myself. 8. Don't play with a bomber in air battles over rank 2, because you will be shot down after only a few minutes. Maybe Gaijin will fix this with new mechanics in the future, but by now just don't do it. 9. Don't under estimate your enemy. If you do it right you can destroy a rank 6 tank with your tiny rank 1 tank. I have shot down a F 100D and a MiG 19PT (top tier supersonic jets) in my Yak 3 (rank 3 prob plane). So don't under estimate your enemy or you will get a big embarrassing surprise. 10. If you have a bit of experience, like me, go out there and tell the others what they should do and what not. Tell them every little trick. That way you can get friends. And we all know, that are the most fun when playing them together. If you have questions about War Thunder just ask it. There are enough players and you tubers out there who will answer them.

I understand now that is a game were you can choose to flank the map and camp , or rush to the points but keep in mind there is a 60/70% chance to die. Also try to be aware of the situation if your team is kicking ass or viceversa , know if the enemy are spread through the map or concentrated

11. Patience is a virtue. 12. Never try to fight when you know you can't win. Wait for more reinforcements or when your opponent makes a mistake 13. If you can't kill a tank and you repetitively encounter that tank go to the protection analysis and find a weak spot. (People have trouble killing KVs but they are the easiest tanks for me to kill cause I found their weak spot.) 14. Know your tanks 15. Angle. Angle. Angle. (One of my fondest memories of play the KV1 is when I took on 5 American tanks on my own and got 5 kills with the KV1because I angled) 16. Dont just immediately repair. Find cover or run away.

Tip: Look at the map and set zero of your gun so you don't have to guess every time. On small maps to mid maps I set my for 400m and mid to high at 600m-800m. That way you can immediately aim and shoot. Faster the projectile the better - smaller adjustments. With howitzers this works as well. On KV2 and M4 105 I usually set my zero at 200m and hit every time.

Something ive noticed at the mid tiers is that no one uses smoke rounds properly. These can be so useful. I always see players aim near them to cover themselves with smoke, but use your smoke rounds to fire it near or on the enemy. This will alert your teammates to an enemy position, and make it more difficult and time consuming for them to spot you as they have to move out of their spot to see you whilst they're covered in smoke. It won't do any damage, but repositioning correctly can allow you to kill a target you wouldn't normally knock out that quick from the front

It isn't until rank 2 that I got a tank with smoke shells, and it was an SPG, so it's reload was around 10 seconds. Switching shells from damage to non-damage is a risky move, since you have to shoot the shell and reveal your muzzle flash to switch back to damaging ones unless you had already prepared the shell.

Lots of good tips already covered but here's a few rare tips, in stock setting the "I" key turns off your engine, this is good if you need to hide from the enemy or are trying to ambush, one caveat to that us that you are only on battery power and it does go pretty quickly once battery power is gone you lose a lot of turret rotation speed. To restart the engine double tap forward or reverse. Learn to hide and something to think about usually the first foot of a hill or snow drift has a weird bug you can shoot through them. This is good when using the binos to aim your shot (activate binos and click and the turret will rotate to where the binos are aiming) however another trade off is that when you think you are hull down and the enemy launches a shell through the top of the hill and gets your hull instead of your well protected turret. Some buildings can be shot through with solid shot, however exploding rounds will be set off. You can use this to your advantage as well if having trouble seeing tanks you can destroy some buildings in order to get a shot. Another thing artillery and bombers who have large bombs can completely erase sections of the map, if you know a bomber (like the PE-8) has just carpet bombed an area, dont expect the cover to still be there also as a bomber if you have large bombs and you cant find it see the enemy, sometimes it can be useful in urban maps to just bomb areas of the map you know a lot of tanks drive through. You might not hit anything but you will expose the area. Learn ambush tactics, but dont rely on them. Most tanks arent good in the ambush role but some tanks are. It's good to learn what can and cant be used for ambush so that you know what to look for when moving through areas, another aspect of that is watching for trees and plants falling, watching to see moving shadows or straight lines in an area that's odd to see straight lines (like the forest). Also look for dust kickup from enemy shots, when the enemy shoots smoke and dust appear and can be a good way of telling whether or not an enemy is hiding. Also patience, this is key. I even struggle with this, if you know it's a well travelled area dont shoot the first guy you see because now you have just alerted the enemy to your presence. People can follow your shell travel back to you. Another aspect of this is to not push to far ahead. Dont follow enemies out into the open, dont let them bait you over hills, mark the tank and let them come to you, pushing to far will have you battling a tank without friendly help, an assist is better than having to respawn. I hesitate to offer this last bit if advice because many people do this in games that matter but it's ok to take some time figuring out how to manuever your tank and how to spot enemies. Dont do this in actual battles. Plenty of custom battles exist you can go into those and they dont effect peoples stats. Two tips for marking enemies, if you hold M you bring up the tactical map, then click and it will ping those coordinate yo your friendlies as a warning. Do not spam it, people especially in RB have so much to look at you spamming a spot is just a distraction. Secondly certain vehicles can spot enemy vehicles. You can either use the binos or the gun sight and press V this will mark a target. Finally, accept that you will have bad games. I'm a reasonably average player. I do somewhat well and even have some epic ace/double ace matches under my belt, that said I have plenty of matches with 1 or no kills. Sometimes it's the tanks and sometimes I'm just not playing well. Some tanks arent good at killing other tanks (the churchill MK VII comes to mind) it's not a high penetrating gun and it's slow and while it can kill it's just not good outside of being up tiered. You will make almost all you spawn points from it by bouncing shells. Or sometimes you just had bad luck, random wifi mess up or you just played badly and all of that is ok, just drop into a new game and learn from your mistakes. In one game I had a streak of deaths when I started because I kept running into this one way more experienced player who just kept beating me. Learn your tanks and study them, there is an entire wiki devoted to tanks on war thunder and it's great. It will teach you alot up to and including how many rounds you should load.

Quick tip: When dropping arty close range, it might be easier to use the alternate arty mode. When in the arty dropping map, use the middle mouse button to take you to a view centered on your tank, from which you can click on the ground where the enemy tank is (or where you are if you need it danger close).

Flanking can be very useful especially on maps where it’s more objective focused. You can catch the enemy off guard and usually they won’t have time to react before you pop a shell in the rear of their tank.

Well I know this is pretty old, and you haven't done content on this game for a while, but it came in suggested and I am trying to get into gf again, and between your 10 and the comments, it all seems covered, except one thing; the problem with smoking up is that it doesn't just block your enemy's view, it also blocks your team's view, which means you effectively cut off your support from assisting you. Don't expect to live forever, as you will respawn, and don't die in vein. Same could be said for arty strikes meant to clear areas, or just create dusty messes, can often ruin shots for teammates. I found this out recently while watching OddBawz, a very good player and youtuber. Nice video Jedi/oake/mark

It's probably been said before but try to learn the armor layout of tanks. The armor preview in the hangar is a great tool for that, you can even go into the protection analysis and select the tanks you're playing to see where you can pen most reliably. Ammo types are also pretty important. The shell with the most penetrating power isn't the best in a lot of cases. APCR for example has a lot of penetration but doesn't do much once inside the tank. So it might be beneficial to ditch some penetrating power for post-pen damage. Again, play around in the protection analysis in the hangar. You can also preview (and test drive, though only some) vehicles you don't already own in the hangar to look for weakpoints in thier armor or their crew and components layout. A lot of tank lines also have very similar weakpoints so you don't have to remember all of the different tanks. The most prominent weakpoint in the game is probably the lower plate on british MBTs. Also similar tanks often have similar crew layouts and ammoracks.

After watching this and other videos, I'm glad to say that I've ventured into realistic tank battles, and even though I'm low tier still, I'm glad to say that after playing for 4 hours and getting one kill, I had to take a break to watch The Golden Girls. After that though, I got back on, and to my surprise, I actually started getting kills. I'm still working on guessing distances on the fly, but I'm happy I actually did well enough to even play some CAS.

Here are my tips as a WT vet. Spend your silver to give all your crews basic training and buy every crew slot. Fill the slots with a variety of vehicle types all at the same BR. Don't waste time looking at stats (especially crew stats). Stay close to your teammates. Play the objective. Play multiple nations' early BR vehicles. Do all that and you'll notice a few things: first, the grind isn't nearly as bad as it's said to be; second, you'll start dying less after you learn the low tier strategy of not getting hit; third, you'll be able to determine your playstyle gradually and you'll overall have more fun with the game. Alternatively, you can keep the default crews and struggle with limited vehicles; pore through stats and figures that won't help your gameplay; use one nation's vehicles and only the best you have available; and generally continue wondering why all you do is die and you never have any fun with the game. o7 commander.

WoT tactics but can work in warthunder; Sidescraping! If you are in a tank like perhaps a kv, drive towards a building and angle your tank (the side armour ) at an extreme angle. Novice players would shoot you, giving you a small room of time to shoot back. Also you can do a different version, reverse sidescraping which is technically the same however you put your rear in front, now before you tell me that the rear is the weakest armour, it can do work however it is risky. Doing reverse sidescraping will most of the time disable your engine and cause fire however the engine block can also serve as bonus armour if you may. Happy Tanking!

Huge tip here, go into your settings and change your sniper mode to boresight rather than gunners sight. This works for AB and RB. The actual gunners sights are usually pretty offset from the gun, especially on later Sherman's and tiger models. This is incredibly frustrating to deal with if your trying to knife fight in urban areas.

Even though ive only had 1 week of playing war thunder, Here is a tip i noticed that works for me very well There are some attacking styles i know that ive seen in the game. Your first style is the flank and spank tactic, the key to this tactic is to have a fast tank of course. (Preferably the Soviet light tanks). You have to escape the enemies gun all the time, and you need to aim for the sides and the back. And you always have to fire first before the enemy. Your weakness is a tank that has a fast rotating turret and can easily shoot you If this fighting style doesn't suit you then try the assault tactic. You need to have a heavy tank that can soak up alot of damage. This tactic needs a heavy tank because you will need to survive alot of bullets. Your gun needs to be strong enough to shoot and penetrate a tank easily. Your only weakness is a light tank that can penetrate your weak spots If your still not into this tactic then try the sniping tactic, this tactic can be used with any tank that has a really good shooting range. As the title says, you will snipe the enemy from afar. The key to this tactic is to always have cover that you can hide on in case of a tank that has spotted you. Those are all the tactics i know in my 1 week of playing, My favorite tactic is the flank and spank tactic. If you have reached the end of this comment, Hoped this helped you in your tanking

Play the tanks as their designed. Each tank is different. If your in a tank destroyer chances are you have longer range - stay back when you can and shoot from afar. (Becomes more common in higher tiers) If your in a heavy tank - feel free to push forward in the front lines but listen and watch for anyone trying to hit your flanks or weak spot. (If turret; swing it around and make it hard to hit) If your tank is fast - find a good firing position fast unseen on the enemies flanks (These maybe contested - so you want to look out for those folks first)

The size of the tech tree determines how many crew I use... Russia, USA, Germany: 5 Japan, France, Italy, GB: 4 Sweden, China: 3 Also: Decide when you start your session whether you are grinding for a new vehicle, working to spade a vehicle, achieving objectives, or focusing on earning SL. This way you can tailor which vehicles you take out and how you used them in game. It will also allow you to manage the use of boosters, wagers, and reserve vehicles. For example, if you are playing to spade a recent purchase, you will remember to activate a reserve vehicle when you play a 200% RP booster. You will get to keep researching upgrades even if you get taken out if you have the reserve ready.

The only critique I have about this list is the crew training section. Although it is true that many crews causes them to progress slower, the difference between a trained crew and a stock crew (not including premium crews, something new players wont need to worry about till significantly later) is fairly minimal. I would however suggest giving your crews roles. Say you have one crew for your anti air gun, one for light tanks, an aircraft if you're playing realistic, medium tanks, etc. just be sure they're all similar BRs :)

Kinda late but iv played war thunder for a bit and my tip is try and get behind your enemy tank and aim straight for the back so you disable their engine(this is usually where the engine is) and then when they are just a sitting duck aim for their turret or if their heavily armoured go for the space just between the turret and main body, this takes out the commander and gunner and then you can just fire away into the centre of mass and try to hit modules and do as much damage as possible
