I've seen some drunk crewmembers after their crew party. One of them kept trying to get me to share her pizza with her. It was funny to me. I didn't care because it was the day before we got off the ship after being on an extended cruise due to a hurricane. I was just glad they were having their own fun and not worrying about us.

I got one for you! I’m a musician and I made friends with the drummer of one of the cruise ship bands. As a fellow drummer we got along really well so one night, at about 1:00am he asked me to fill in on a song. It was supposed to be just one song, but, the band director liked what I was doing and the set only had two more songs so I finished the set. We all had drinks afterwards! So a week after I got back, I got a text from the drummer telling me he got fired for letting me sit in! I apologized profusely but he told me he had been having issues with the director for a while. We’re still good friends to this day!

I met a carnival cruise ship cabin Stewart on the flight home from my last cruise before covid-19 and he told me that they can get fired if they get in the bottom group on their ratings three times they will get sent home. All it takes is a couple of nasty guests to end up in that category and I thought it was really unfair and I think that's why he told me about it because I was asking him questions about something related to that. Also a cabin Steward can get a bad evaluation because a passenger tells guest relations they would prefer to have their beds pushed together as opposed to being apart or the other way around. Usually the cabin stewards are not given directions by the passenger before the trip starts so the Stewart is just making their best guess on what the passengers want. I found that out when I told my cabin Stewart that I had advised some people at my table during a muster drill that they should just talk to their cabin Stewart that evening before they went to dinner and then their room would be just the way they wanted it when they got back.

I am a retired railroad engineer. We must get to work on time ,drug and alcohol free for obvious reasons. The train will not run on time if the engineer is either absent or late on duty. If you feel sick ring the depot immediately so they can roster an alternative engineer to do your shift. If you get too sick to work again you don't get fired you get a medical retirement, that sounds much better. I have been on many cruises, Princess is my favorite line but that is a personal choice. Lots of good information for which appreciate. PS Lots of medical examinations and random drug tests too. I suggest if wish to take drugs and or be a heavy drinker the railroad is NOT the job for you.

Over 14 years I worked for Carnival cruise 🚢 and I’ve watched many of my friends get fired for drinking sneaking into Guest cabins, all of the above in which I did as well but never got caught. The thing that almost got me fired is a guest lying about a gay comment that I never said I never did luckily for me I known the hotel direct very closely so he listen to my story my side and he believe me and that is how I end up surviving that.

It’s sad that instead of protecting a crew member from a predator, they fired her. Twisted mentality. I’ve heard that sexual assault is a very real problem on cruise ships. I guess if an employee is assaulted by a passenger, they too get fired for being a victim, you know, the way U.S. schools treat the students, any involvement in a fight is immediate punishment for all involved.

We never had random alcohol tests on the cruise ships I worked on, but if you were suspected to be drunk on a shift, you were tested. Did you ever have the 2:00 am cabin searches? Luckily at the time I knew the captain fairly well and he knew my parents would be on board, so even without the paperwork it would have been okay. That story about clients asking Massage Therapists for something extra is so typical, especially in private areas (many scarier things have been told when you're doing house calls) especially in some Provinces of Canada where the municipal governments have regulated Sweedish Massage and I've heard of therapists having the clients doing everything from neglecting payment and asking for something extra - when the Therapist denies these things everything from the client becoming physically abusive, sticking dogs on them, or even something worse and weapons have been said to be used. In other words, sounds like the Therapist that you met had a client who had deep pockets and power if the spa management company stopped her from working...or the spa management company oddly takes sides with the clients and not the therapist. Though I feel that if anything the client must have had a connection with the management and pulled a very cold and personal trick on her when they didn't get what they wanted.
@christinanelson7081
@christinanelson7081 3 жыл бұрын
That is what they did. They also use these deep pockets of theirs, to buy the massage therapists loyalty. So that the client(s) get away with whatever they want, and before too long, they turn these places into what they call, "brothels", and then designate someone who never questions or doubts their cult like behavior as the, "madame". I guess that's if your a woman, but if your a guy, it's just another whore house, or business, ran by pimps and John's. These people trying to constantly mess with me, are going to lose soon. Another thing I have learned is that when someone keeps telling you, that they live in an office building as their home, they are either trying to help you, figure it out, or expose the ones who have been doing you and others dirty. I've now realized and see, that these cell phone companies, need to be more transparent about their intentions and their motives, because they purposely try to make me do the things they want. Well, the YWCA, is being corrupted, but only because corrupt dirty, people have taken it over, and are controlling it, and other buildings that are supposed to be helping the poor. Not sure whose all involved, in my hometown, but I do know that a few of these places, and this YWCA and horrible government building, that looks like a big old eye sore, right in the middle out town, are holding all kinds of secrets and corruption. They are not being stopped, so we as a society have to be proactive. Lastly, this nasty, suburb my family and I were living in, had evicted us, and were allowing all kinds of convicted, registered, sex offenders, to move into these small neighborhoods, which is actually against state laws. Because, the offenders are not allowed to move into neighborhoods, that are closer than a certain area, such as parks, and any and all schools, and daycares and anything involving the care or supervision of children. Lastly, the fact that when I saw all these people living in my suburb, and had been convicted of crimes against children, heinous acts also, well let's just say I was extremely upset, angry, and wanting to stop and help expose and fight the cause of getting these people out of neighborhoods were children lived!!! I did that, by writing the local county sherrifs office, sharing my opinions and the things that I feel strongly about, that go happen in my neighborhoods, which set off the powder keg (no pun), to cause all this chaos and lack of wanting to protect our most valuable assets, which our the youth!! The schools are corrupt, the latch key programs have been corrupted, and we can't allow that, to happen!! We have to stand up! We have to fight for the right to want our streets safe, and not plagued with evil on every corner!!! If you agree, we have to find a platform, get together, have meetings, demand transparency, and hold the ones who manage the funds that go towards helping the communities, and the most affected areas like the lower income, higher crime areas, receiving the money people desperately need, and deserve, and make sure those who are being oppressed, and retaliated against because the liberals or the cults. They don't like their rich buddies being exposed like they are, so they use their corporate interests, and donors whom are also elite oligarchs, to bribe the citizens and the people in those communities, opposing their communist like rhetoric, and attempt to get rid of anyone standing up to dissent and race baiters, and anyone promoting hate towards one another, which only keeps the heat off the real bad guys, living in the gated communities, using police to protect them and their families. But if they would instead, just listen to the voters and quit allowing, promoting, and even financing the chaos, and destruction of the lower and middle class communities!! Then, we should try to come as one, all of us, to make this world, this economy, and this country, the place we want our nation to be. Not what government or baptists tells us too!! Meaning, don't allow too much power in any area of a community, unless its giving back, helping, and saving others!! We don't need little evil dictators popping up all over the place, thinking they can treat the people that don't agree with them, with callous and inhumane actions. If the people are hungry, feed them. If the people need medical care, treat them. Don't retaliate, or pull one of these career politicians moves and target the people who speak out, or don't agree with your antics!! Believe in something better, and that even though the city has been burning, and many of us were unaware, because we were too busy trying to earn a living, or get free from some kind of force able manipulation, and abuse through monetary denials, and lack of assets at all, because of corruptions at the government building, and the fact some stalker has been illegally using my identity, all these years, while I was moved away, and lied too, while this witch, was out ruining our suburbs, and our kids. I am done with this lying monster!! She and all her accomplices and all of them will be brought to justice for what they've done!!

Just took my first cruise on the Carnival Elation two weeks ago. Had a great time. Interesting video. Having worked in corporate America as a private security officer, I know a thing or two about false and frivolous complaints. People that make a complaint should have it thoroughly investigated by competent and fair trained officers. The vast majority of crew I encountered went above and beyond to make myself and fellow cruisers happy. They work real hard and are undervalued. It is my hope and prayer that fellow cruisers aren't making false complaints against the crew mates. If it is found that they are, the cruise line should be able to permanently ban a guest from future cruises. Several of the young crew members I spoke with had families and young children back home. One missed his young daughter's first birthday. I cannot understand why any guest would make a false or frivolous complaint against a crew member. Guess I was raised differently.

@@mariareyes-ku6194 True. There were several ranking cruise officers that I said hi to or nodded to and a few ignored my pleasantries. Some others were happy to say hi and talk. Hold up kid and stand right over there for me. You're not an officer and you never have been an officer. You have been a security guard, also referred to informally as "mall cop" or simply "goon". There's an important distinction to be made here, because even though police officers and security guards are both civilians, you can not exert neither the authority nor enjoy the qualified immunity from the law, that a police officer does. When you wear your private sector security guard uniform, your first worry must be to avoid at all times giving the impression that you are a sworn officer with police powers. Personally I'm happy to tell you straight up that as a security guard you are at the very bottom of the food chain. Now I know you've done better in life, but anybody else working a security gig, If you want to improve your standing in life and are looking for prestige, none of that is to be had wearing a Securitas uniform or that of some similar outfit. People with ambition do occasionally work as security guards, but for them that's just an interim solution until they succeed in whatever they are working towards.

I worked on Princess, I always bought Rum in Jamaica or port bought 2 (2 liter diet coke) in Miami and brought it onboard put in my refrig. I did hear of musicians getting fired bringing illegal stuff onboard LOL, or getting drunk, I was very careful about drinking so I was ok, my cabin was on other end of theatre/lounge area so it took more like 15 min to get there from my cabin, also we were not allowed to go on guests elevators we used our elevators behind the scene you know which ones I'm talking about, and behind scenes doors where we went thru the windy stairs etc. Another way of getting fired was eating in guests buffets well we were allowed (entertainers) buffets 10am-2pm that's it, after that we go to crew cafeteria and you know what they have, rice, fish, catering to mostly philipinos, etc. I like fish but not everyday. So I ate at guests buffets 10am & 1:30pm stuffed my face, then we had gigs 6-9pm or something like that. Then we hung around with other entertainers or saw theatre shows /sat top decks or just went to cabin to sleep ...port days we were last to get off the ship first ones onboard, and we had great time walking around ports. They did drug tests sometimes weekly sometimes 2x month we never knew. They can wake you up 1am if they felt like. Yeah don't remind me of those days.

If I ever caught a crew member toking in a stairwell I’d offer to be a lookout for them so they can have a more relaxing toke and I would never tell on them. In fact I’d let them know I’m willing to be a lookout for any crew member and to just come and find me. I’d encourage it! Way easier to do a good job and give great customer service if you are high!

Heads up with the security stuff, they get hit hard for stuff that goes down even if they aren't around. They will argue with them not being tenitive in correcting stuff that happens on the ship as a whole.

To protect both perhaps in the spa there should be microphones recording the conversations and interaction and that employees be given small recording devices so that when they enter the area both know that interaction will be recorded and/or monitored. The employees should also be trained how to diffuse the situation and maybe have code phrases that alert management when they are asked to something inappropriate.

Thanks J for continuing to post information about what it's like to work on a cruise ship and the challenges. As a conscientious cruiser it's important to me to see the difficulties crew face; often far exceeding what others here in the USA would experience on land. In the USA we have labor laws that protect employees while working as crew do not have as many protections. It seems we would have more opportunities in the USA workforce to correct our errors vs just getting fired (always exceptions though). When we start cruising again I will work towards giving more in tips for both customer facing and behind the scenes crew.

We had been cruising for a while and on occasion sitting on the balcony or in the corner when the room steward came. I was surprised when a steward was uneasy and finally told us he wasn’t allowed to do that. We of course agreed to leave while he offered to come back later. We simply didn’t realize there was such a rule! On most ships it’s easy to figure out when we go to breakfast and scoot in and out while we are away for a short time so there really weren’t too many times we stayed reading a book etc.

Years ago I was on the Dawn Princess, on a South Pacific tour. It was late and I was about to go into my room, and this crew member introduced himself to me, saying he was from Mexico. He asked me if I wanted to go for a coffee, after a few min of weird small talk. I said no, I am tired I am about to head to bed. I thought to myself he must have known I was a female travelling alone, and knew my room number. I am certain he was looking for some "fun".

Definitely a Part 2. I was also wondering if there was an approximate breakdown of rule-breaking by job category. I'm imagining that most of the ones you mentioned were people in the entertainment category, except for the cook who got others sick. All the rules I've heard of sound righteous to me. If crew want to do those kinds of things, they should try to get work on the yachts as in the show Below Deck. They nasty. After watching that show, I wouldn't want to be on one of those yachts even if I could afford it.

One cruise I went on a lot of the entertainment staff went on an excursion with us and they partied so hard they all were drunk when we got back to the ship. They got into so much trouble. Not kinky did they get back on the ship drunk there were a bunch of passengers from the ship that were total stiffs that complained because the dancers kinda started a little dance and danced with some of us. So they ended up getting in trouble for that too!

@@JSHIPLIFE Jay I don't personally have anything against Don. I actually think he is a nice guy. Many times he makes me laugh with his goofy jokes. I have followed him since probably close to his beginning. I'm sure trying to come up with content to put out to the public may not be easy at times for you all. I probably couldn't do it myself. You all do a good job at what you do. I definitely think you do a very good job with your channel. Like you, I also have the same habit of saying "at the end of the day". It drives my wife crazy lol. It seems I have noticed a pattern with Don. In this case his "pattern" made him look foolish in my opinion and could make him lose some credibility. I would hate to be the people he was talking about in his video and be smeared by untruth. However I appreciate you reminding me about my comment. I really should have kept my criticism to myself and it was uncalled for. I have made several in the past on his page. I'll go back and erase them. I appreciate the nice way you brought that to my attention. Thank you all for putting out the news and doing what you do. I know you all probably don't hear "thank you" enough. I have been cruising since 1989 and cherish each cruise I have been on. I lost count of the cruises after I reached the 150 mark, long ago. I'm only 50 now but started cruising with my parents as a teen. I took my kids on many when they were little, now I'm hoping one day to be able to take grandchildren on them also (if I'm ever fortunate enough to have any). Keep up the good work, sir.
