I like to sit outside and just stare up at the sky at night. It’s so relaxing and you can turn into prayer time. No phone, alone, just you, the night sky and God. Other ways are cooking slowly and enjoying what I’m cooking, playing in the dirt with plants known as gardening and sewing fun stuff:)

When weather permits, I sit on my screen porch. I close my eyes for 10 minutes and listen to the sounds around me. Cutting out the visual input really helps me re-center my brain and appreciate the audio sensations. I've come to realize when I'm tired I don't need a nap, just setting a timer for 10-15 minutes and closing my eyes is a very good thing.

Last week in the depth of the snow in San Antonio Texas We had no heat or water The land line was broken the cell tower down We had a fire in the fireplace and warm clothes. I spent almost the whole day just watching the beautiful snow sifting down from the sky. As hard as things were we were blessed with a day of spectacular beauty that I will carry in my heart forever. Having minimalized my things, even in the dark I could find warm hat or gloves. Happy to know that extra clothes I no longer had went to those who were cold that day

Praying the nursing homes set up zoom visits w volunteers. My only child, teen daughter said if it were not for the zoom friend that she visits once a week she would have gone crazy this last year. @@pnwflipper2089, I think it should be that you go back in the content of time and who anything is written to understand it better. Pastor are supposed study that to bring into concept with in their teachings. You are the one who is supposed to look for a church that; teaches from the Bible and help understand it so, your faith can grow. Not just because you where born in a church you stay there. You have to look for a place to grow and that feeds your spirit.

I’m also in San Antonio and so much went wrong in the snow storm last week. The electricity being out when we were seeing temperatures drop to 6 degrees ( which I had never experienced in my life and and Im 54). No water or showering for 6 days. I couldn’t make it out of my snow covered driveway, although there was no where to go since the grocery stores were closed because no electricity and the stop lights weren’t working. There were Pipes breaking, heaters breaking, I can go on and on. It was a mess for a week and it was one of the best things I have ever experienced. The way the neighbors came out and helped each other was incredible! I’m crying just thinking about it. Anyone with a pool offered neighbors water to flush out their toilets with. There were no plumbers available to help people with broken pipes, since pipes were breaking all over the city. So neighbors went out and helped each other repair pipes! . If someone in the Nextdoor app asked if anyone knew of a store open that still had drinking water, you would have 10 neighbors delivering water from their own stash to them in minutes! After the electricity came on, people’s central heaters had broken because of the electricity kept coming on and off so much for some. One person was asking if anyone had an extra space heater. She had 20 replies within minutes and neighbors offering to fix their central heater! Who knew how many talented and big hearted people lived amongst us. We have “Primarily Primates” down the street who provides shelter for former lab monkeys or ex pets. They had no electricity and some of the animals were starting to die. They had over 60 volunteers go take them generators and help transport some to the zoo and other shelters who still had electricity and offered room. The whole thing ended a week ago, and I am still on such a happy high. I honestly didn’t think people cared anymore and I’ve never been happier to be so wrong.

@@cynthiafisher9907 Thank you, that is so sweet. I didn’t even know it had made it to the national news until it was over. I’m a news junky, but I didn’t watch the news once that week. Anytime the electricity came on for a little while, we would try to charge our phones to try calling the electric and water companies, as well as check in with family and neighbors on the phone, or the Nextdoor app. It’s heartwarming to know that you all were thinking of us during that time. Thank you. ❤️ 🙏

I can’t watch crime shows anymore, they make me feel scared or something. I deleted all the games on phone because it was distracting to things that were higher place on my priority list. If I have time to play a game I can skip one app over and read a book instead. Hygge is amazing!! Do it! I love this whole video!! I think best one ever.

One of my favorite verses and so key to remember these days. My pastor is doing a sermon series on Throwing Shade (Eph 4:29) discussing “tongue” verses. One challenge was to not complain to each other and to use encouraging words instead. We can share our complaints to God like David did in Psalm 142:1-2. It is truly transforming your mind to be encouraging instead of complaining and then you are blessed as well as those around you! Love you two!

I exercise, read and do crafts (when I give myself time). "People have time for what they want to have time for" is one of my life mottos and what I nicely say to people when they hear that I exercise almost everyday. I love what Dawn said about playing on the phone versus IRL--it is SO true. I enjoy Sudoku puzzle books and adult dot-to-dot books. I can't give a suggestions on podcasts--Sunday morning with the two of you is the closest thing I do like that. THANK YOU SO MUCH for these Sunday morning "self-care" sessions. Blessings!

Wow! As I listened, I kept saying "Yes! Me too!", out loud: Your comment, Dawn, about how it was just easier to stay home rather than take some time away, Diana's comment about how it is hard to watch/read anything scary, intense; I just had this conversation with my husband yesterday! And, I also feel like I need a self-care routine for stress relief but feel like I don't have the luxury of time. There are nine of us in a 2-bedroom house, and I feel like it's all I can do to just keep the clutter at bay. Thank you for sharing this today!

I like to sew and to bake but a few years ago I was sewing a quilt block I'd not done before. Afterwards realized I felt so refreshed and accomplished. It truly felt like worship and realized I had connected with the Father in the creative process. Same thing has happened in baking a new, different recipe. I love how the Father wires us uniquely!

Crafting or sewing is therapy to me. Also, taking time to read the Bible. I like listening to the Daily Grace Podcast, The Bible Recap and A Slob Comes Clean. Diana, I like those Amish romance books too! Have you ever read any of Grace Livingston Hill’s books? They’re so good! Not Amish romance but they are Christian romance so super clean and she shares the gospel in them! I’ve been reading them since I was a teen and still love them. Wow....just loved this episode! I want to replay it later and maybe once a month or so. I thought it was funny that the journal image was in a different language! I was kind of nosy and really looked at it....but can't understand! I think it's great that way! I already do so many of these self-care things, but never named it "self-care" although these habits really do care for me. I love to knit and journal. Listening to MM is really hygge for me! I recommend the Mitford Series for reading. It's inspiring as well as relaxing, not to mention laugh out loud funny. One funny thing I discovered is strangely relaxing is cooking videos on youtube...esp street food cooking. Last but most important is memorizing Scripture. When I put the Bible in my memory, I can pray and completely rest as I recite the verses in my mind anywhere I go or anytime I sleep. It's the most profitable way to care for myself EVER! Thank you girls SO MUCH. (I have 31 year old twin girls so I can call you girls, I think.)

This year I encouraged my 2nd grader to make lots of Valentines to send to family & friends. We had so much fun making them I got addresses for nursing homes & we sent ones to them as well. What started as an idea to make up for not having a class Valentines exchange turned into a beautiful outreach of love. Our library had a project for making Valentines for children in foster care & at a local juvenile detection facility, so we jumped on that too! The rules for the facility were very specific, so I made those cards & she focused on ones for foster children. I had such fun being creative & colorful, embracing this new opportunity to show love to others.

Hygge. Danish word for coziness. My parents were first generation Swedish Americans. My mother taught me this concept growing up but didn't give it a name. But she always made our house cozy and sweet. Lamps on in the evening rather than the overhead ceiling light. Such a little thing but wow what a difference that can make. Fire in the fireplace or candles burning. Something yummy smelling coming from the kitchen. I have great childhood memories of all those things and tried to do all that for my children. And now I do it for myself. So important. I'm glad you brought that up Dawn. And Diana I love that you've been living under a boulder! That made me laugh.

Maybe it goes along with gratitude, but taking a few moments to appreciate beauty when I notice it. On my drive home the other day there was a gorgeous sunset! I wanted to enjoy it a little more without the distraction of driving so I parked my car where I could see it well and watched the colors grow and fade with the trees silhouetted in front of them.
