These are so true. My mother, my hero, decided at age 80 she was going to lose weight, and she did. She lost 103 lbs. She became a lifetime member and kept it off for 11 years. I always asked her what made her change. Her answer was "I stopped lying to myself." I lost her last August and she was healthy until the last few months of her life. I believe it is because she had lost all the weight. I know this is long, your video just blew me away. My mother's words came back to me. I miss her so much. Thank you for this video.

Excellent video, and so accurate. I can identify with all that you said. I lost 115 lbs in 13 months by making a note of everything that I ate. I can have so many portions of each food group in a day, in the correct proportions. So I just made a list of the number of carbs, fats, proteins and fruit I ate in a day. I just put a tick and then counted up the ticks near the end of the day to see how much I had eaten and how much I still had left. I never counted my vegetables (especially as so many of them are free, and even if not free, I had a lot to lose and somebody once told me, you cannot get fat eating vegetables, and they filled me up with a low calorie count). Two sayings that also helped me are 1. A week has 7 days, not 5. 2. I have got a thousand excuses but not one good reason.

You are such a star! How many of us are starting our diets 'tomorrow'! Exercise is, I agree very necessary, once we reach our 50's everything plummets South, and it is very hard work just to keep everything neutral. I am an older person, so, along with my husband we do what we call PE everyday, because as you grow older your armchair becomes your biggest enemy, it calls to us and we have to resist. Hi Bobbie,, When I turned 50 I cut out all fats, starches and added sugars. Even when we ate out (I ate a lot of garnish). No more than 10 grams of fat a day (because it exists in the leanest meats). I lost 55 lbs in 5 months and kept it off for 4 years. The moment I went off the diet I gained the 55 back plus 20! You are so right. Diet and exercise have to be realistic and a lifestyle we can live with for the rest of our lives.

I think I saw that same video about the not counting! If it was the same one through, she was a long distance runner. So I figured for her, she's probably leaving a whole bunch of fit points on the table each week. So the things she's "not counting" are just coming out of her fit points. I "don't count" 3 points worth of chocolate, up to 5 days a week, because my fit points more than cover them, but I don't want to see all of my fit points available to me in the app, if that makes sense. Wonderful video, as usual!

It's funny, the arrogance that you spoke of in #10 is how I feel about people continuing to count calories while on WW. I know you mentioned doing this and I don't understand why. Yes, fruits and vegetables have calories despite being 0 points but don't you think the WW experts have thought of that? Don't you think they have done extensive research on the effects of 0 point foods? I don't see the benefits of counting both.
@MindfulMidlife4 жыл бұрын
Hi April. You have a good point. I don't think you should count points as well as count calories. I said to be mindful of calories. I NEVER want to count calories again. The points do work. I just believe that we can have better success if we are mindful of choosing lower calorie items. If the way someone is eating is working - they are losing weight - no need to change. If someone isn't losing while staying within the points, they may want to look at their choices in light of calories. I hope that makes sense.
