I will always defend the Fingerpoke of Doom. It was on a TV match, not a PPV. And the match wasn't even announced in advance. Trolling audiences with big story swerves was just what wrestling did in the late 90s. And it was time to end the "Hollywood versus Wolfpac" storyline that had run out of steam in mid-1998; a united nWo would be the perfect enemy for WCW's white-hot babyfaces like DDP and Booker T (and Sting if he had been healthy enough to wrestle) to rally against. That being said (a) forcing the announce team to talk shit about Mick Foley winning the WWF title was a cheap thing to do and (b) once it was clear that the nwo of 99 had failed to recapture the lightning-in-a-bottle of the nwo of 96/97, it was time to move on for good.

Man, Im still shocked by the fact they kept that Sid match going after his leg was torn in two. He's practically suffering in the ring and can't move and WCW says "We have to fill the time, do something, anything!" instead of getting this man the medical help he needs.
@AdeptusCaeiusIII

WCW made some awful decisions for the wrestlers. Sid had gone on record he wasn't comfortable doing top-rope moves, but they pushed the 'top rope boot' and the axehandle on him. Goldberg has been on record saying they'd 'almost threatened' him that he had to do that kick on Hart, even though he had mentioned many times that he wasn't comfortable with kicks. AWFUL decisions by the back-of-house.

Sting came out recently and said he was having troubles with alcohol during that time. Bischoff respected him enough to not go public with it in any of his podcasts or interviews. That probably explains why Sting got pushed down to the midcard in ‘98
@pushon10
@pushon10 Жыл бұрын
@@paulmolive1821 That might well be the case, but there are two problems with that justification for Sting's horrid booking: 1. Sting was still in the main event scene for the 1st quarter of 1998, he wasn't pushed down the card for quite some time. 2. Sting was still wrestling lengthy matches long after Starrcade 97, ones in which he was made to look pathetically weak compared to his 96-97 iteration. Wouldn't it have been easier and less laborious for him to be booked into quicker, shorter matches in which he easily dismissed his opponents? His booking sucked from Starracde 1997 all the way to the end in 2001.

There’s a reason the finish of that scaffold match was basically nonexistent. Traditionally you win a scaffold match by throwing your opponent off of it, but apparently none of the wrestlers involved in the Great American Bash ‘91 match wanted to take that bump (most wrestlers hated working scaffold matches when they were in fashion for that exact reason) because it was changed to “capture the flag” rules. Unfortunately the cameras completely missed it when Eaton grabbed Austin and Taylor’s flag, so the commentators didn’t realize the match was over until the bell rang.

Blood wasn't that uncommon in WCW in the late 90s. I know this as I've been binge-watching the stuff from 96 to 99. I think you could get away with a lot more violence with a TV-PG rating back then. It's very telling that the uk dvd/vhs releases for WCW have 15 and sometimes 18 ratings.

@dylanogg347

@@marman51212 Isn't it ironic? Joking aside, Austin's Piledriver was accidental. While Owen Hart's wasn't. To be fair, Owen did not do it with malice, and had ever intent of being safe, but he was too confident in dropping to his ass as he said. Plus, while Chono was able to keep wrestling for decades, Austin was wrestling on borrowed time, and he probably felt betrayed by Owen's sloppy drop. That being said, I have immense respect for Owen Hart, and I don't want to demonise him for what was an accident. While he never apologised, most assumed he was ashamed of himself and couldn't talk to Austin as a result. He was riddled with guilt over the botch.

Rude vs Chono was bad because on September 23, 1992 in Yokohama Chono defended the NWA World title against Austin, during which Austin botched a piledriver on Chono, compressing the discs in his neck. Chono continued to wrestle and headline shows before he dropped the title to Mutoh at the January 4th Tokyo Dome show. As a side note, Chono and Rude tore the house down in the finals of the G1 Climax on August 12, 1992 at the Ryogoku, so they were capable of having much better matches, but with Chono having a bum neck that needed surgery, it reduced what could have been a classic rematch into a snooze fest.

Countdown is going on as I type. Sting vs Hogan is my pick for worst WCW match. They promoted the thing for almost 2 years then changed it at the last second so that it specifically robbed everybody of what they’d promoted. Then they tried to pretend that the match did deliver what they promoted. Then they had 2 rematches in less than a month! Just the worst match ever. Killed Sting and killed WCW really. Alot of more memeable stuff came after it like the Fingerpoke of Doom but Starrcade is what finally ruined WCW.

Same as the Roman v Cody WM 39 main event. At least WWE corrected their error at WM40.

that sting vs vampiro angle was crazy you consider the graveyard match or the time sting was left dangling on a rope covered in a red like fluid just lazy writing. vince russo just ends it with setting stuntman on fire and throwing him off a scaffold come one that it crazy. as for sid that was unforgivable they forced him into doing top rope jumps that when he gets hurt instead of ending the match straight away they go on with the mediocre show.

Before watching: Hogan Warrior at Halloween Havoc has to be #1. It was terrible and went on forever.

I literally feel like I am experiencing a Mandela Effect thing with the Sid injury. I really have a lot of recollection of the match where Sid had the rubber band leg thing going on was a match with him against Hogan. Also, I like beer, so there is that against me. 🤟🤣🤟

I was watching live when Sid V broke his leg 🦵 . It was GRUESOME!!! I almost 🤢. I was surprised they didn't stop right then and there!!! People gasped and then everyone was quiet. One of the most surreal experiences ever. I miss WCW. I tried moving to WWE after the take-over, but not enough of the wrestlers/storylines I liked made the switch and I stopped watching after a month or two. I may have to get the WWE network just to be able to watch the "good old days". Jmho

It know Crush's real name actually is Brian Adams, but he should have switched it up somehow, maybe call himself Big Brian Adams or something

Weak: Hogan and Savage actually won that cage match against TATEH, and there's no way Hogan/Warrior II is the worst WCW match ever, even discounting Fingerpoke.

God, just looking at the pics I wanna screm "GET SID A STRETCHER AND TAKE HIM TO THE HOSPITAL FFS!!". Edit: 6:39 - Oh, I guess WCW not getting Sid a stretcher was just a thing, then.

The worst match in my opinion is Kevin Nash vs Goldberg vs Scott Steiner at New Blood Rising. Goldberg going against the script, commentary completely shattering kayfabe, Vince Russo, Madajah kept interfering, 75% was Nash vs Steiner in an awkward and poor planned match and Goldberg weng against the script. Just plain horrible

If anyone has free time on their hands, check out Bryan and Vinny's WCW Nitro reviews, they're hysterical! They had no idea how much bad wrestling they watched! There's a legendary bad match on a November 1999 between Bam Bam Bigelow and Nasty Boy Brian Knobbs in a Hardcore Match that I kid you not, ENDED IN A COUNT OUT BECAUSE BAM BAM HAD TO HELP KIMBERLY PAGE! Think about it! A Hardcore match, which includes FALLS COUNT ANYWHERE, ended in a count out! As bad as WWE has been in the past decade, at least the problem with WWE has been that it's boring, WCW was so bad, it's legit hilarious! It's so much worse than the little that I remember! In fact, Nitros are worse than most of the PPV's!
