FCW did an interesting version of it where they had all the wrestlers start outside the ring, but they were given 30 seconds to get into the ring. Only those who were in the ring after those 30 seconds would take part in the battle royal, so for the first part of the match, you had the first wrestlers in the ring fighting to keep everyone else on the outside while others tried to sneak around and find openings. It was sloppy but it made more sense conceptually than what TNA did.

I still love the story that Lockdown was created because Dixie Carter didn't understand sarcasm. There was talks of a cage matches and after a while Dusty said, "Why don't we make them all cage matches?!" Dixie thought this was a great idea and ran with it. That hospital remark reminded me of something from last week or weeks prior NXT. Vic Joseph mentioned a local hospital and you could see him wince after that line, either because he was being yelled at or knew he would be. Committed, that should be Shaw's biography title. He's stayed committed to that general gimmick for years. Well, they did specify two falls. I feel like that should be a stipulation. You HAVE TO get two falls, rather than just getting one and calling it a win. The newest Botchamania has Homicide telling the story of the Steel Asylum. It sounds like a shit show from start to finish. Lastly, damn if Daffney didn't get the short end of the stick during her time in TNA.

This really makes me appreciate the simplicity of Dragon Gate's survival cage match. And they seem to slightly modify the rules every time they do it. For anyone not familiar, the basic part: put x guys in a cage, put x - 2 flags at the top of the cage, get a flag and you can leave, last two go to pinball or submission, loser faces punishment. I know it sounds convoluted, but it's legitimately my favourite match type.

The King of the Mountain match is goofy as hell, especially when someone wins, they hang a belt just to take it back down again. A KOTM match should've been between two champions with the object being to take your opponent's belt and hang it up high before the belt gets raised out of sight and the opponent loses their title. Hated rivals could get one over on each other by literally taking away their opponent's belt, a future title shot contract, or even their TNA contract. High stakes matches with plenty of scope for creative booking and finishes.

I liked the original Monsters Ball stipulation, the idea was they would go crazy and I suppose become monsters and originally most of the competitors were pretty crazy, like Raven and Abyss so it wasn't that ridiculous for them to subject themselves through it. Plus it did differentiate it from other hardcore matches. Yeah 24 hours always seemed a bit much, sat in the dark with a straight jacket for a bit would be enough but it did give us an amazing Raven promo where he's tied up and filmed in night vision making him seem truly insane and demonic. Raven actually really sold the concept of the match actually 'Leaving me in a room by myself was a major mistake because being crazy was the only thing that kept me from going insane'

I still have to give props to the Styles Rhino elevation X finish for how clever the fix was. Styles gets out a bag of "blinding powder" to try to throw it in Rhino's face. Of course because it was his spot Rhino countered and AJ got hit with the powder. And then he ended up being the one to take the bump and lose. It wasn't "blinding powder". It was powdered grip chalk so AJ could be grabbing the support bars underneath and control his fall before letting ago.
