Sardines are full of vital protein, vitamins and Omega 3 oils. Are they still edible a decade later? Lets see.

Forgot to tell you about horseradish. We have a horseradish plant in a neighboring town and they make many different kinds of horseradish (cranberry, apple and many more). The brand name is Silver Springs. One time when we were out for a ride in the country we went past one of their fields that had just been harvested and we found a chunk of horseradish root in the ditch so my late husband got out and got it. We brought it home and stuck it in the ground and grew horseradish for years. My husband would make our horseradish after that and we would can it. He had to wear goggles to peel it and grate it and he would still cry when doing it. But we enjoyed horseradish for many years.

Very nice to hear. I have tried it and it's pretty good. The Roots of horseradish will take over your garden but what a gift 😊.

We actually planted the roots away from the garden in their own spot and we also controlled how many plants came up but pulling them when they were small.@@karlaruter3221

Mr. Tom this sure brings back memories! My dad and I used to eat sardines together years ago. I was the only one of five girls that would eat them with him. He’s been gone almost 48 years. I miss him so much! I’m gonna have to buy some and see if I still like them. Of course they probably will never taste as good as they did when I ate them with my daddy.

Hi, Mr. Tom. I'm enjoying my morning coffee and glad I have one of your videos to watch while I sip. When you first showed us that 10+ year old can of sardines, I refrained from saying that if the can wasn't compromised and if it was stored properly, they should be fine to eat, but the taste would degrade just a tad. LOL, I wonder just how many people watching this would be wrinkling up their noses at the thought of eating them! We grew up in an era where we had to use some common sense about just about everything. We had parents and other family members that taught us many things - We listened a lot more, too. That may well be because we didn't have as much to distract us. I'm all for taking the warning labels off of things and letting natural selection take its course. Just sayin'!

As an avid prepper that has many decades-old canned goods in my preps, I can tell you with the utmost confidence that sardines and other canned goods will last many, many, many years beyond the 'best buy' date - if kept in appropriate conditions. The only canned goods that you need to worry about consuming is, of course, cans that are dented and/or that has penetrating rust on the can - or acidic foods such as tomatoes or the like. Other canned good foods may lose some taste quality after decades in storage, but they will still be safe to consume. Cheers,

I pay 45 bucks for 36 cans of sardines each month. I have giant Florida broadleaf mustard plants in my garden and a patch of turnip greens and I always go eat a few raw leaves afterward. My radishes haven`t done well except in pots. Not sure why. I just planted collards and watercress indoors and I`m about to plant my other hydro gardens and I`m waiting on a nice new one with a 2 gallon water tank. Plus I make them too with buckets and empty Folgers Instant containers and use 3 inch net cups in them filled with clay pebbles. Watercress is supposedly a superfood and I successfully have it growing from seeds. They were TINY like powder almost. The leaves are bigger than my thumbnail now. I have it under a 10w full spectrum light. Gonna grow jalapenos too and a Beit Alpha self pollinating cucumber. LOL! Gonna attempt it. It would be awesome to have fresh cucumbers growing in my camper.

Plant horseradish in large pots so it does not take over. Puree it with sugar beets. The beet sugar complements the favor without destroying the heat, plus it is pretty. Ginger root planted in large pots produces a beautiful plant along with wonderfully spicy fresh ginger.

I agree Mr Tom. I have had some Kipper snacks that were not past their best buy date, but the top was springy and I could push in in a bit. It wasn't a lot but I didn't take any chance and tossed them because all my others were very solid. I have seen dented cans than were questionable and so now I run my hand around the can, cause you know they got paper labels on them, and I make sure there are no dents. Sometimes the dents are close to the top or bottom and I just won't buy them. It seems the cans are a lot thinner than they used to be and dent very easily. I know it's not me cause I'm a lot older and don't have the strength I used to. Thank you for this video, it was very helpful.

Back in the 70's whenever I had a bad sinus headache, I would go to a restaurant called El Chico's just to eat their spicy dipping sauce because it really opened up my sinuses and before I left that restaurant, my headache was gone. By the way, as I was watching your video, I too was eating my tin of Beech Cliff sardines in soybean oil. I didn't have any hot sauce, so I put what I had...ketchup. Hey, Mr. Tom! Mmm, I love grated horseradish in ketchup for dipping shrimp into. I make mine kinda pink, and whoo! But I don't think I could do horseradish AND mustard. That will strip your tastebuds raw. Now my dad loved sardines, plain on the cracker. He'd offer to share and I'd decline. But I shall have to try some after watching your taste-test. Now, about the mouth saying one thing and the brain saying something else. My parents used to tell me my mouth was disconnected from my brain. Even at my advanced age, on occasion, I'll hear my mouth say one thing while my brain's yelling, "No! Don't say that!" Lol! Always been spunky. Love ya, Mr. Tom!

As long as the can isn't damaged and lost it's seal it should be safe. Got to look to see if there is bulging or leaking . Check to see if the seal hasn't been compromised. Sometime rust can compromise the seal. So if you see a old can check it out. Check to see if it still has a seal and it not puffed or leaking.

I love that you cover your appliances on top of fridge in plastic bags as I do to keep them from getting dust greasy. Yep. My kids hate canned food, too. Poor Gracie NEEDS some sardines, NOW, PLEase! Lol😅 Tomorrow night starts Channukah. A time of rededication to YHWH. 8 DAYS TO BE THANKFUL FOR THE CREATOR and our lives in HIM. I WILL BE LIGHTING MINE. WILL YOU BE WATCHING THE NATIONAL LIGHTING? Or doing 1 yourself? Because of the miracle of the oil, it's a good week to be eating oily fish, fried donuts, latkes, fried cheese sticks, cheesecake, even tempura style fried veges. Having still not well enough yet in my recovery from annual fall "flu to bronchitis", I will probably be having just the applesauce no fried foods for a couple/few more days. Thank you, Mr Tom for a fun, short video. Maybe this winter once a week you could pull something from your backup pantry and do a similar quick taste test? I quite enjoyed this I do think next time you MIGHT want a glass of liquid cleanser to down and clean the palate in between! Cheese helps cut the horseradish but negates the sinus cleansing properties. At least for me. Woooeee I could taste it with you just by watching. Good night, Mr Tom
