My old violin teacher had the same private teacher as Hilary Hahn (they were a few years apart), and apparently she'd have lessons after her and come in and hear this little girl playing super advanced concertos. Must've been great for her self esteem.

Yes! For a while I had lessons after a really short girl (don't know her age, but maybe four years younger? Three?) and she was playing book 3 while I was at book 1. But I knew she started younger than me so it wasn't too bad

There are such children out there. But I must stress they they are rare., probably 1 in a 20 "prodigies" rare. You get to hear of some of them sometimes at the major junior competitions or major music school recitals.

Hilary Hahn had amazing focus and work ethic at that age. I worked at the summer string camp (for young very high level players) and saw her play and ages 10 and 11 there; she was studying with Jasha Brodsky (I think she did at Curtis too). I recall her playing some Paganini when she was 11--possibly a concerto--as well as Ernst's spectacularly difficult variations on the Irish song "The Last Rose of Summer." Her father (a lovely man) took time off from his work to drive Hilary from their home in Baltimore to her lessons at Curtis in Philadelphia. oml the fourth finger vibrato! i love how i am twelve and can’t even do vibrato except on my 2nd finger and at ten she could shift and vibrato and everything else. Edit: I can efficiently use vibrato and I am getting better (because i am PRACTICING) p.s. i am really good at the piano so i focus on it more than violin so thats why im not great on violin
