I love the expression "car camping." 3:01 To me, camping means renting a canoe and portaging and not seeing anyone else for a week. But THEN, I discovered 'car camping' which meant you could drive 45 minutes outside a big city, pull up at a campsite, pop the trunk, put on the stereo and drink beer and play hacky sack for 2 hours before thinking about setting up a tent or cooking. When you DO set up the tent, you get actual pillows from your bed and a duvet🤪At the time, we called it 'convenience camping.' And if you're not having a good time, you can be home in under an hour (as opposed to trapped on an island for 4 days in torrential rain until your boat comes) 3 cheers for car camping! ⛺🔥🙌

This has always been a dream of mine. Finding a small piece of land somewhere in the Sierra foothills, near swimmable water. Somewhere to camp, have a fire, responsibly, just a getaway for short or long weekends. Maybe more into my retirement, which is closer than I want to admit. Living vicariously through you! Nothing against you guys but it seems budget isn't an issue. Do you think about costs? Do you have a $ limit? Trying to be realistic with my dream but enjoy yours along the way. Love the new direction, looking forward to seeing what you create.
@BeckiandChris6 ай бұрын
Sounds like an amazing way to spend retirement! Land is probably a lot cheaper in western New York than in the Serrias. We budget loosely with the philosophy of spending on things we love and cutting costs aggressively elsewhere. We aim to save 20-30% for retirement and spend the rest.

I dunno - the pressure from an audience perspective is pretty high. Should I wait on the notification bell or just save up on a few episodes and call it a series? Actually, it's more technical than that when I have to decide whether to watch it from the den, the bedroom, our theatre or just whip out the phone. That means audio choices. Shit. I guess standing, sitting or laying down comes into play now. I'll figure it out. Carry on...
@daniellewatches6 ай бұрын
I'm genuinely so curious about the land-purchasing process! Did you find the land and go "yes this spot!" Was it a plot already up for sale? Do you have land neighbours?? What's the craic with building on it? So many questions but so excited for the series! (the logo is😙👌)

A lot of these are answered in the first episode! But will probably do a podcast or video breaking it down further 😊

How much land is "enough" (for what uses)? What are the pros and cons of different types of land? How much does land cost? How to search for land from afar? Any rules on buying land in one US state while living in another (or in one country (CAN) while living in another (USA)? Would owning a helicopter enable you to buy land so remote that there weren't roads there (ensuring its remoteness, and thus likely its low price?), yet via helicopter you could still reach it "easily"?

So I am trying to get more into camping, and was wondering if you tried the Uberleben Stoker? I bought their titanium pot/kettle and love it, but wondering if the stoker is worth it or would you rather a gas stove?
@BeckiandChris6 ай бұрын
I have the stoker! It’s super fun for outings, especially little winter day trips, I don’t think it replaces the quick convenience of a gas stove since it needs constant attending to to keep the fire up to cook. but it’s definitely a very fun tool to have if you want that kind of experience without the commitment of building and extinguishing a regular campfire
