From what I can tell the lore hinted at by the secret scavenger hunt for the bill statue that was set up after the show seems to have been retconned by the book. It’s a bit sad that Alex wasn’t able to pay that off the way he wanted though it’s understandable why after all these years and what happened with him and Disney.

Ok so a bit of a story time here and some of my speculation in the replies Bill cipher is how I even got to the Nuxtaku channel in the first place years ago (pre Vtuber nux and around the time of the Billy nux raids on twitch) I first watched it in hebrew but because releases are delayed here I then watched it in English iirc I watched gravity falls and got really interested and thought how amazing bill cipher and Weirdmaggedon was, and Bill's final words got me curios to know what they meant, I was also cracking my own theories with my brother and cousin over how he's alive and will come back at some point (one of them was bill's existence in 3 places which are Stanley's mind, the memory Eraser gun, and his statue all having a peice of him, 2/3 of them him was released and the last 1/3 was in his statue) Anyway I then looked up to find anything about Bill cipher still being alive and found out that Matpat's Film theory channel made a video on it (which I think was also how I got to know Film theory) Once I've seen that video my brain went off on theories and fanfictions in my head of what would happen if he comes back I kept looking for more videos on Bill cipher and Nux's video came up (I think it was the overpowered one but Idk for sure) And I've become a nux fan since then! Through the billy raid era to most overpowered anime characters snd so on!

So on to the speculation/theory I do think that at some point, Bill would be able to posses someone through another object thus maybe letting some part of himself out, but he'll probably need to keep quite about it and make sure to never interact with the pines family at least until he fully regained his form (not the physical one) It will take some time though and definetly not in dipper and mabel's generation Another possibility is one mabel or dipper from another universe end up releasing him on accident, perhaps maybe even the anti mabel will do that. For sure though after he comes back he has to never ever die again as the Axolotl will probably not give him another chance afterwards.
