In this video, I show you how to make a DIY track dolly (Dana Dolly) for your church livestream with only $100. This is a great way to add some smooth and cinematic camera movements to your livestream and make it more engaging and immersive for your viewers.

This is such a help. I have been trying to figure out where we can add this type of shot. Also shout out to Ryland Russell for supporting you. I subscribed and am looking forward to future content.

I might have missed it, but what did you clamp it to in order to get the track off the floor and above the people's heads?

The theatre we meet in has railings at the front of each section and we clamp it to that. Not a luxury most people have!

Hi, I'm looking for a tutorial like this, but with the whole system motorised and controlled remotely from the control room, for example. Do you think it's possible to do this with a radio control system, a stabiliser and arduino systems? And if it is, do you think you could do a tutorial?

That would be cool! I'm sure it's possible, but honestly I don't think I have the kind of time right now to experiment with and build something like that. Maybe sometime in the future though!

@@budget-church-livestreaming Well, I think I'll give it a go myself, I'm still dealing with a few technical problems, power supply and all, but it could be really cool.

Is there a way to add a motor to your dolly?

In your next version, use regular speed rail (aluminum 1.25 schedule 40 pipe) or metal electrical conduit and connect them with metal not wood. The cost wont be much more, but it will give you a lifetime of use and you wont need a suspension on the dolly. Spending $100 is not insignificant, if you up that a few bucks, same amount of work, better results. We made several videos on how to make your own dolly and tracks because we know how people want to save money, but don't want to sacrifice video quality. Wood is just a bad medium for precision work.

Yeah, next version would definitely be something more like that! This was very much a prototype build, and it's continued working well for us so we haven't felt the need to rebuild at this point. The other benefit of the PVC and 2x4s is that it's super light, and we have to carry it in and out every week. If it was more permanent, we'd do metal for sure. And I'll definitely check out your guides whenever that ends up happening!!
