You have spoken and I have heard you. The measuring stickers are coming off, I will have a new way of marking the amount of water being removed. Also, it does not matter that I do not have rock and sand in the tank. The max level in the display tank is the max level with or without the displacement of the rock and sand. Had I done this to an empty tank with just water and used my sump to measure my water changes, then it would have made no sense to have done it without the rock and water. Thank you all for your feedback, much appreciated!

Very impressive, video wasn't too long. Your set up perfect and can't wait to see it progress. The only thing I didn't like is the stickers on the side of the gallons of water. I think I would make a template. That way all u would have to do is hold it against the tank and see what u have taking out. Start it at the top of the glass other than that WoW! Keep up the good work

Great work of art. I love the idea 💡 of marking the tank on the sides for water changes I thought of doing something like that a bit smaller on my RedSea Max S-650 LED rear side plastic panel to make sure I don’t miss the water amount, good I thought something that actually works, I’ll make a note of this for when I relocate my tank to the final place in less than a year.(home remodeling project ) Looks very good and am sure it will work even better. A lot of sweating momentum and frustrations but it all be great. Soon the moment that everyone is waiting, “The clowns return home”

@victorvilla23486 жыл бұрын
This is a great idea. However, wouldn’t you want to do this AFTER the rock and sand as they would change the actual amount of water volume you can put in the display?
@ReeferGil6 жыл бұрын
The check valves cut off any water leaving the tank through the returns so all the water drains down the overflow. Once the water is below the overflow it stops.

Nice update... I think your the 1st Reefer on KZbin to setup an Apex color theme that includes Sump + Apex cabinet including hardware/door hinges etc + plumbing piping & handles orange color coordination. Would you consider testing the Apex WAV pumps in the DT and their COR return pump plus utility ATO pump if they sent them over to you at least in the beginning months?
@ReeferGil6 жыл бұрын
I already have all of the equipment hooked up that you mentioned except the WAV circ pumps. The color scheme was definitely influenced by Neptune Systems controller's colors. I'd try anything from Neptune Systems. Really would love to get on the list to test the Trident.

8:28 that air in the pipe made me think... could stationary water in the pipe for a longer period of time become bad/foul? (bacteria, algae..) I don't know how often you do water changes on your system but I'd drain the pipe after finishing just to make sure ;-)
@ReeferGil6 жыл бұрын
That's a great observation. For the water sitting in the drain pipe, I'm not concerned... it's just going to drain down the sink. As for the water sitting in the return, I think it such a meniscal amount, it won't affect the 125 gallon volume of my system. Plus I'm doing weekly water changes, so that water doesn't sit long.
@AllegiancePressureWashing6 жыл бұрын
Wouldn’t your markings be inaccurate after your aqua scape displaces water? 🤔Thank you for the videos!
@ReeferGil5 жыл бұрын
Nope, the fill line is the same (to the overflow teeth) with or without rock.
@AllegiancePressureWashing5 жыл бұрын
You’re right. Thank you for all the content
@bopeep78066 жыл бұрын
Here’s an idea for you to simplify water changes buy 4 identical barrels and fill 3 with saltwater and leave other empty drain off x3 barrels full or other amount and refill with full ones :) that way you don’t have to mark tank :)

Ah, thinking of the same steps but in reverse. I like it. Yeah the tape is sort of an eyesore. Might have to do something with that.

@ReeferGil6 жыл бұрын
I don't even want my thoughts to venture in that direction. This is a 2 year build in the making for that exact reason. Expensive!
@miltonenglish16796 жыл бұрын
The other way to tell how much water to take out is to measure how many inches on your tank is 5 gal of water then mark that one the tank. You can then simply multiply the inches by 5 to determine how many gals you need to change. That is what i did on my tank.
@ReeferGil6 жыл бұрын
Thanks Milton, another great idea.
@williamwulffleff68296 жыл бұрын
Displacement from rock and sand will change your measurement if measure while bare tank.
@Cycnoches20126 жыл бұрын
i was think the same thing, but displacement affects the total volume. the graduations will still measure 5 gal. increments
@ReeferGil6 жыл бұрын
Nope, still would be at the max line level in the display tank. As long as the display tank was filled to the brim of the overflow, rock and sand wouldn't affect it. Max level is max level, but it would affect the max level in the sump. Since my measurements are in the DT, it's good. Great observation though.

Exactly, thanks Cycnoches! I could have done a better job explaining that in the video.

Rock and Biomass displace water and may throw your measurements off a little.
@ReeferGil6 жыл бұрын
It shouldn't. The tank was filled to the brim of the overflow. No water going down the returns due to the check valves. Water level will be the same with or without the displacement of rock and sand. Good point though.

I had to give you a thumbs down. Let me explain. You don’t put a bumper sticker on a Bentley. You put water level stickers on your display tank! Please for the love of God go get a paint stick or some type of measure stick. Then take a marker and make your water level marks on this stick. Keep the stick inside your tank stand. That way you still have a nice looking display.
@ReeferGil6 жыл бұрын
