As a medical scientist, my salary was 120k when I left Nigeria, having worked for 8 years with very bad working conditions. The same certificate gives me at least $6k a month from one job, and I have two, with better working conditions. Three thousand of Mr. Minister can't stop me from seeking a better life for me and my family, period!

A nurse that earns 80k per month can't treat anyone with dignity because she has none. Pay the same nurse $5000 a month you will be amazed with her performance infact without an additional training. Good pay brings good performance.

I would like to share a story. 2 years ago I was in Abuja. My friend asked me to come with her to the health department to speak to some doctors about a health experience I had. And the treatment I received in my country. (USA) When I got to the health department building. I was not impressed at all. I couldn't believe this was a Health department building. When you drive in they have old tires in the parking lot. I guess it's to keep people from parking. I really don't know. Inside the building there was low lighting. I remember asking my friend why it is so dark in here. The elevator was taking so long that we walked upstairs. As I walked up I saw worn out furniture stuffing coming out of the cushions. When I was talking to the Doctors. When I told them they might consider putting more money into researching women's health. They lost interest. And quickly change the subject. I knew they were not serious about Women health. I was thinking to myself. I hope I don't have to go to a hospital over here. Because if this is the Health department. Lord help me. The Nigerian people deserve much better.

The policy is sure necessary to keep up with the needs of the people. Realize that tertiary education here is cheaper and cost of living is not same compare to there. Even though there is need to improve the workers' packages too it can't be as much as they are getting there. Let's be more patriotic and factual. I've always been your fan, but can't deny my conscience anytime. Thanks.

Just yesterday on Nigeriaworld website page, it says each Nigerian Senator is getting paid 21 million Nigerian Nairas (approximately 13,250 United States dollars - meaning 159,000 United States dollars annually) per month just for their office expenses NOT including their annual salary that is separate on its own. I think Nigerian Doctors should be paid more than these Nigerian Senators there in Nigeria. Regardless, it is what it is. Peace...

Out of that 235k for a doctor who basically works almost round the clock, 365 days or lets say 350 days Doctor will pay: 1. Renual of medical license 2. Heavily to have medical tests done and treatment done at different times and it is more if the person gets exposed to hazards during work 3. Pay heavily for exams for residency, in Nigeria, some exams are billes in dollars, dollars oo for a country paying naira or in Ghana, ghana cedis 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 4. Pay for housing. 5. Pay dues for different medical association every damn month 6. WE ALWAYS CONTIBUTE FOR PATIENTS TO GET TESTS OR TREAMENTS DONE. I for one on so many occasions bought medical supplies and food for patients! Just to assist and not allow them die of hunger 7. We pay for trainings etc... one has to keep being updated everytime to times and trends. And so much more! On top of it theres so much nonsesnse going on in hospitals esp members of staff admin,HR, accounts hosp attendants, directors, persecs of different parastatls of health stealing money. This minister should please and please stop speaking unrealistically. Doctors are certainly going to leave the country periodt!

We have a big problem to fix in Nigeria. This man is not just an educated person but a Prof and someone occupying a very important position . He most probably has travelled the world or at least been to a developed country and saw the living standards of average working people let alone healthcare professionals. Now, If a Prof in a position like this, can be unreasonable then I am more than convinced that been a professor is just a title in Nigeria and does not translate to experience or intelligence. Why spend your money in foreign countries, while talking about how great your country is? Work hard and make opportunities in your own country.. You can't say that you are hard workers if you fled your countries to live off the hard work of people in other countries. Prove that you are as great as you claim to be, because great people should be great in their own land.

I am from Imo State. A family member who is registered and also went to school to become a registered midwife was hired for 30 thousand naira in a private hospital in Buhari's government era. She works six days a week, with no real benefit like pension. Imo state government had no vacancy for her. She works in Enugu state. There are very many nurses and doctors like her in Imo State!!! There's so much man power in Imo State that many doctors are UNDER EMPLOYED. They can not go to other states because their "state of origin " would be a problem. If they go further North, where there is less manpower, they may be luck to be hired under contract with no lasting benefits and lose the job whenever their indigenes want that job!!! Better, still, they stand to be killed by an angry mob for being an unbeliever. #Fact. These are people Nigerian government are stopping from leaving the country!! What plans do they have for unemployed and under-employed medical workers? They claim they train them. In Imo State, student nurses work shifts without any stipend since 1983!!! While other states paid their students, Imo state student nurses do not get any salary. They pay for their books, accomodation and upkeep. They don't pay school fees but they work!!! Is it what you call free training? You won't hire the individual and you don't want them to leave? INSANITY and witchcraft!!!

The only state I know in Nigeria that paid a little better salary in Nigeria is Lagos.... However, other states are rubbish. They like asking Nigerians to sacrifice for Nigeria while they are living a flamboyant Life. I'm a Nurse, Adeola nd you're doing a good job. He really needs to rewrite the policy and prevent themselves travelling abroad for treatment.

😮The nurses in Nigeria should speak up. It's unfair. Many of them graduated and can't get jobs in Nigeria. Why should such nurses suffer like that? My heart aches for them. Sad!!!!!

Yes they have a different economy for the judiciary and medical staff. Medical staff don't rig elections and can be reached outside the Nigerian borders but the judiciary can keep you in office and must be domestic to be effective. The judges can't pass verdicts from outside the country but doctors can be accessed. The medical budget is given out as allowances for the politicians to travel anywhere in the world for treatment but the judiciary must and only be local.

Adeola, asmuch s i like ur programs,i think u forgot to know that theres no profession with no bad eggs. You people are always talking bad against nurses, but one thing i always tell myself is,the day public recognizes the importance of those nurses, that they we will seize to see the bad side are and the bad of them will start to also do good. The idea of saying some are bad will make u continue meeting the bad ones.Until i changed my mentality about them, now i enjoyed visiting general hospitals in peace

Adeola, my Sis is a nurse worked in private hospitals with over 12 years work experience and guess what, her salary is not upto 50k where she now works in a Aba North Health care center. Very depressing in this economy. And she is one of there best 😢, i have tried applying severally for her through NHS uK but still no offer😢. This Nigeria is like Hell.

150K as a House Officer 180K as a Medical Officer This is true for most of the doctors in state service in most of the Northwestern states.

Ya'll hardworking Nigerian nurses, just know that in some parts of the diaspora you can move ahead and become a nurse practitioner or a nurse anetsthetist, and depending on the state you are licensed you will be well compensated for your hard work saving lives from $150K to over $200K per year plus 320 hours paid leave, 40 hours paid training (continuing medical education) and bonuses.Taking care of sick humans is not easy oh!

The funny thing is that this document in question was produced with some egunje built into it for the drafters, the printers and all the boy boy people that did something but nothing to produce the document. So essentially they spent money to achieve the impossible: Keeping people from seeking a better life outside Nigeria.

The conditions under which doctors are placed is nothing short of deplorable. I know a houseofficer sleeping on the floor because they are required to share a room that has only one bed. The difficulty in getting a houseofficer job is unbelievable. They tell you there are vacancies in Maiduguri and other far north areas!

ADeola you are very correct. Most health workers, doctors, nurses, Physiotherapy, laboratory staff have no emparty, they are very rude and not professional. They are not ready to tell you what procedure they want to perform on you, if you ask them they will reply you rudely and in nonchalant attidtude including the so called doctors. ❤😢
