There are many different types of squats. The Hindu Squat is a variation done by lifting the heels to allow for full descent, among other things. Nothing wrong with keeping heels down, but if you do, it’s just not a “Hindu Squat.”

Much better for knee health - it improves mobility, but unlike a back squat where you can potentially stack an extra 200-400lbs of weight on it you obviously can't do it with this squat because of the mobility. So, this is not as good for hypertrophy of quads, glutes and back but it is extremely powerful exercise to improve mobility and strength of the knee and hips.

Just wondering on the execution of the movement. I find that I can more easily go all the way down with toes pointing sightly out. Does the placement of the toes matter?
@OriginalStrengthSystem Жыл бұрын
Placement of toes does matter, to you. You’ll find, as you have, there is a sweet spot for you. It’s okay to be in that spot. Also remember that the heels can and do rise up at the bottom of this particular squat. That helps a lot.

I started doing hindu squats just nearly 2 weeks ago and just today, thanks to this video, I realized that my technique was different than it should be - instead of going on my tips on the way down I went on them on the way up, and honestly, I don´t know if I was making it harder way, easier way or whatever. Anyway, I didn´t hurt myself, actually, my way so far gave me really good workout so I´ll maybe keep doing them that way in future, but I´m excited to try this version of technique 😁 the way I did them so far I managed to get to 175 reps, so I´m curious how far will I get with this 😁

For this particular squat variation, it is a part of the movement. You raise the heels on purpose as you squat
@viktormedina46313 жыл бұрын
Question: I used to do these type of squats, but have read in a lot of websites that they actually hurt the knees because of putting them in front of your toes. I have arthritis so I do not want to make it worse. Is this true or not? Thanks for any advice anyone could give me.
@OriginalStrengthSystem3 жыл бұрын
Well, it’s not true unless it is. What I mean is that these squats can be great for the knees. Not squatting with your knees past your toes is an “old wives tale” that mostly makes people afraid to squat. However, there are a lot of things that are good for some people, but not so good for others - like strawberries. When it comes to movement, we advise people to move where they can without moving into pain. In the case of arthritis, you would take advantage of the movement your body allows you to have in a pain free range of motion. No matter how small the movement, it can eventually lead to full range of pain-free motion in time. Here is a great place to start to restore/help your knees: kzbin.info/www/bejne/a5aTaZKEbaiUba8 This can lead to a great Hindu Squat. Here’s another that may help kzbin.info/www/bejne/f4iyipx7aNSYn8k

Not true at all! This exercise is literally one of the best exercises you can do for knee health. This may sound simple or just weird, but if you can do 55 in a row, you can do 60. Don’t let yourself stop until you reach 60. Then, do that for a week. Then set your floor to 65 for a week. Slowly inch yourself up with your mind. Your body will follow…

Awesome job Tim! Hey, what's your opinion on frog squats, is it just as good as hindu squats?
@OriginalStrengthSystem2 жыл бұрын
I don’t know if it’s just as good - they are just different. I would say the frog squat will be more of a leg burner and the Hindu Squat would be more of a lung burner. The range of motion is also very different in each squat, so they will affect the hips, knees, and ankles differently. So, I think there is room for both to provide benefit.

Don’t go wide and don’t move into pain. Move where you can without moving into pain. The Hindu Squat is typically a narrow stance.

Is it recommended to lift the heel? I tend to deep squat with my foot fully on the ground, would I miss some benefit?
@OriginalStrengthSystem3 жыл бұрын
Lifting the heel is the way the Hindu Squat is performed. Nothing wrong with keeping the heel down, but it’s not technically a Hindu Squat when you do. There is benefit in both types of squats. Not everyone can keep their heels down, so Hindu Squats allow more people to play.
