If you want a good vampire book, I recommend Carmilla!! It's the vampire book that inspired Dracula. Super short, super atmospheric, and just good gothic vampire vibes!!! Absolutely love the horror collection

If it inspired Dracula, I HAVE to read it. Adding it to my list, and thank you so much! That means a lot!

Ikr lol I used to be such an avid reader, a complete bookworm growning up and idk what happened but Steven has really inspired me into getting back to reading. He has a such a wonderful collection!

I had my goodreads up while watching this, adding so many to my TBR pile haha. I think the covers really draw you in before even reading the blurb. I remember as a kid going into a second hand bookstore and saw The Doll Who Ate His Mother by Ramsey Campbell. The creepy baby staring at me from the shelf freaked me out but I bought it and here I am roughly 26 years later and with an ever growing collection of horror paperbacks.

Totally agree! We all like to say don't judge a book by it's a cover, but that's almost the first thing we see when looking at them. Plus, a lot of hard work went into those paintings at the time. Funny you mention that book! I literally just bought a copy of that yesterday and am waiting for it in the mail! Jill Bauman is such an incredibly talented artist.

@littlelibraryofhorrors yes true it is the first thing you see and I think the artwork is highly underrated. Most these days don't put in such an effort. Cool. I hope you enjoy it. The cover is truly chilling. Simple yet atmospheric, suggesting something terrible has or will happen.

Hey, thank you so much! That's the whole goal of my channel: to inspire even one person to start reading again, or at all. It's never too late, and I hope you find something to spark that flame again! If you're into horror movies, I recommend checking out books in the Extreme Horror sub-genre that was recently created a few years ago. It's very much inspired by the slasher film genre and focuses heavily on the shock and violence. Authors like Aaron Beauregard, Judith Sonnett, and Jon Athan are good places to start.

Fun fact Kathryn Ptacek was the wife of Charles L. Grant.

Oh, wow! I didn't know that! I love his stuff, so I'll have to check out her work.

I just read a book by William Schoell called The Pact. It also had a nice embossed cover featuring a man summoning a repulsive looking demon & story was nice & short (about 200 pages.) Trouble was that it was originally my mother's & she had left it in the attic along with the rest of her books for decades & the cover had come off, was chipped all around & was detached from the spine (which was missing) & the back cover (which was also chipped.)

I just looked up the cover, and it's gorgeous! It's definitely one I'll be adding to my library. I'm sorry to hear about what happened to your copy. I have a project I'm working on that relies on detached covers, so I'm always looking for beat up copies while I'm out.

@@littlelibraryofhorrors When you get it, please scan the cover. There aren't any good images of it online, they are either too blurry, pixilated or small. I had to make my replacement cover look like a war time Penguin publication.
@littlelibraryofhorrors6 ай бұрын
@leonlegend For sure! I'll just have to figure out how to do that. I'll probably go to the library or something.

I have wanted to read Naomi's room for a long time! I have a Jonathan Aycliffe book called the Lost and it is one of the creepiest books I've ever read!
@littlelibraryofhorrors7 ай бұрын
Haven't heard of that one! Naomi's Room is very atmospheric and has a great build up for the scares. There's something about taking a photo and seeing something in it that wasn't there when you took it just freaks me right out.

@@littlelibraryofhorrors I agree!

Have you played the newest psychonauts? It's greatttt
@littlelibraryofhorrors9 ай бұрын
I'm actually playing that now! I'm definitely enjoying it, but it just doesn't have quite the charm the first one did. Still, I'm excited to see who the mole is!

shadowland by peter straub is one i do plan on reading and might make it my first book from him unless i find ghost story soonish. iv heard a lot about firefly and it sounds nasty and some of the reviews iv seen on it are quite funny. im currently reading junji ito's uzimaki and its pretty cool so far, very creative and of course the art is the best part. found a few cool ones in here that i will be on the look out for
@littlelibraryofhorrors9 ай бұрын
I'm really tempted to start Firefly next now that there's something off putting about it, haha. I LOVED Uzumaki. Totally freaked me out, and the artwork is astounding. Some of the best I've seen in a manga.
@djavatar689 ай бұрын
I just finished Dead White by Alan Ryan. Unfortunately it's not much to get excited about. Great descriptions of snow and more snow, and townsfolk. I am currently reading Firefly by Piers Anthony. Apparently, it's very controversial based on the reviews. People either love it or hate it
@littlelibraryofhorrors9 ай бұрын
Damn, such a bummer about Dead White. I was really hoping that one was good. Haven't heard much about Firefly, myself.
@djavatar689 ай бұрын
Yeah Piers Anthony is primarily a sci Fi writer. @@littlelibraryofhorrors

The books are always better than the movie. Thats a great memory about goosebumps when you were a kid.
@littlelibraryofhorrors8 ай бұрын
I've actually got a video planned where the movie did it better than the book.
@GG_T.V.8 ай бұрын
@@littlelibraryofhorrors that sounds like a good video I can't wait... By the way have you ever read house of leaves?
@littlelibraryofhorrors8 ай бұрын
@GG_T.V. I've tried, but the fact that some of the foot notes in the book are longer than the actual pages completely turned me off from it. I've tried three different times and just couldn't do it. I recently saw someone say you can skip the foot notes, and it doesn't affect the story, so I may give it another try down the road.
@GG_T.V.8 ай бұрын
@@littlelibraryofhorrors lol yea you could skip them. It's a crazy book, I've never read one like it so I loved it.

You’ve never read any Dean Koontz? That seems weird. The most memorable one I read and would recommend is Twighlight Eyes. Check it out. Johnny the homicidal Maniac is great.
@littlelibraryofhorrors6 ай бұрын
Yeah, unfortunately, I let the whole "Koontz wants to be King" cliché cloud my judgment when I started reading again. But he can't have such a huge catalog if he's a bad writer, so I definitely owe it to him to check out some of his work. I've seen Twilight Eyes recommended a lot, so that'll probably be the one I go for first. JtHM was such a staple in my teen years, and I'm so glad to get back to it again.
