Congratulations on completing the internal lamination. I agree that sometimes it is better not to know how hard and how much time a project will take. Otherwise, many would never be started. Treehouses are a right of childhood passage. Thanks for sharing.

Oof, I remember doing those late night marathons. For your health I hope you get a couple days rest. Yes, even if that's including working on Vera's treehouse. Nah, she's not Swedish... as a scotsman told me after he asked this American where I was from, said, ` you guys who sing your language..` wish i spoke more of my blood language. Although, we definite have a engineering gene! Sa langt , Erik

It's hard to just keep going, they take outings and do jobs around the property. That's healthy. I remember vinyl ester gases out when hardening/curing, and it's heavier than air. If epoxy resin is any similar working inside a containment will tend to trap that and getting the ventilation just right becomes more important..

Fabulous work… I know how hard it is to motivate one’s self on a seemingly endless project and I was doing it on a rebuild, rather later in life… my daughter being 30 at the time so no baby monitor needed! Keep it up, the first sail on her will be the greatest sail of your life!

The foam core can be laminated with veneer plywood and used for interior joinery. Many super yachts use veneer marble over a foam core for their heads etc. Bulkheads can be laminated on both sides with veneers or just one side with veneer depending on its application. Rounded wood laminated corners for joinery or bulkheads are also possible by kerfing the foam and than attaching the veneer. These approaches save a lot of weight and provide a pleasing interior.

Life on the hulls has a spray gun that mixes his resin. An expensive piece of gear but the work flow that it achieves is amazing.

I've never worked wit the Petfoam , we work with Extruded Poly-Styrene and have found that when you are glassing it is good to first wet out with resin mixed with Fumed Silica {Cabisol} it prevents the foam from sucking up too much resin and helps to keep it lighter. I'm in the surfboard Industry.

@ArcticSeaCamel2 ай бұрын
@@RANSailing That's one option, not sure yet if that would work. I'm gonna have two layers of ±45° veneers on top of the strip planking. Fiberglass really needed only for protection after them. Keep it up!
@billmeldrum25092 ай бұрын
Wow! Bet you’re glad that part is over with… looks great. 🇨🇦
@torstenhansen43082 ай бұрын
This is already an amazing achievement, congratulations. There is obviously a lot of flat panel laminating work coming up, be it with wood veneers or fiberglass. If I were in your shoes, my first step would be to build a vacuum press table large enough to accommodate your largest panel size (140x260 cm or so). The table top would be grooved to allow airflow and there would be a hinged lid consisting of a frame and polyurethane membrane material that sealed to the bottom. It will be much faster and will cut down on your use of consumables. (There are a couple of good build videos on youtube).

Great work on the lamination! Do keep track of your boat build working hours on the various tasks and subtasks, an app such as Timr makes it easy. I built a tree house across different trees as a young boy. As stated by another viewer the motion of the trees can pull out those fasteners and cause it to collapse. I solved the problem by affixing supports on each tree, and setting the frame on them, ie floating. That way the frame is not affected by the independent movement of the trees. And yes I grew up to be an engineer
