Getting close mate! Interesting about the preloading of the stays. I've been using dyneema stays too and they definitely move over time. I never thought about preloading so will see if i can find someone who can do it for me. Keep up the good work, you'll be happy that the weather is starting to warm up and the days get longer!

Thanks Matt, the pre stretching was worth doing, it was crazy how much it grew! The warm weather is certainly making life easier!

@@TomStuchberySailing No problem, did you find a way to replace/re work the jib boom on the trimaran, would love to see another top speed run
@TomStuchberySailing2 ай бұрын
I haven’t had a chance to have a look at the trimaran recently sorry, been a bit tied up with this Moth. One day!

Hey mate great videos. Try hooking up your vang and controls before pulling on your rig tension while your mast is raked all the way back. Might get rid of your vang length issue.

That’s a good idea, I’ll give that a go!

Great work! Do you still have your other Moth?
@TomStuchberySailing2 ай бұрын
Thanks! No, I sold the hull/mast and other spare sails etc to my friend so that I can race him and see if all this was worth it!

Hey! JB stretched his stays at home. Admittedly he had access to an Armco out the front and not in the backyard...

I did think about trying to do something with my trailer but decided I better not 😉

@@TomStuchberySailing oh given your resources at work I wouldn't have even contemplated it at home.

with side stays etc just have slip splices so you can snug up as you need (if/as the splices bed in) , you don't need chain plates. Looks Great though
@TomStuchberySailing2 ай бұрын
I might be able to make little dyneema strops to replace the chainplates, since these stays have been made to suit the chainplates and I don’t have any more Heat Set SK99 Dyneema. Would hurt less when I crash into them!
@GrantRollerson2 ай бұрын
@@TomStuchberySailing @TomStuchberySailing-eg9vr I set a loop with dog bone on the wing. Then a slip splice on the side stay itself. This gives you flexibility. Replace the plate with a loop+dog bone.

For some reason if you're in the hiking straps you never hit the shrouds. Whereas if you're just sitting there, straight into the shrouds you shall go.

Yes, I've figured its safer to be hiking. I've also found sometimes if it jumps out (as in flies too high) and I can stay on, I land on my back and can sometimes save it and keep going!

How do the insides of the telescopic wand work?
@TomStuchberySailing2 ай бұрын
It’s basically just a little inner tube inside a big tube, with the big tube running up to the bowsprit. The big tube has a slot in it, and there’s a tab attached to the inner tube that sticks out through the slot, which the control lines connect too
