Another thing. At 2:56 they explained Bitte as Please and then they used it as "You're welcome". So can it be used for both?
@sriwahyanibudianingsih15345 жыл бұрын
@@patriciat.8121 yes! With Bitte that means you're welcome, I think the proper translation should be like please or don't mention it
@catk84475 жыл бұрын
So does “du” mean they’re friends? I’m new and I want to learn German! Thanks
@ThomasNimmesgern4 жыл бұрын
@@catk8447 That's not necessarily the case. It's the other way around: If they're friends, they say "du". There are situations in which you can use "du" even if you're not friends. As a rule of thumb: the more informal the setting is, the more likely it is to use "du". Another hint is the social status: if you and the other people around you are of the same social status, "du" can more easily be accepted (compared to a situation where other people are of a higher status than you). However, that's somewhat tricky: If the situation is a formal setting, then "Sie" is often more appropriate (even if the persons are of the same status). If you don't know anything about a person, you may use "Sie" to be safe. An example: you want to buy a ticket for a bus ride, and so you ask the bus driver to sell you a ticket. That's a situation where I use "Sie" although it's not a highly formal setting.
